In which John Green teaches you about Imperialism. In the late 19th century, the great powers of Europe were running around the world obtaining colonial possessions, especially in Africa and Asia. The United States, which as a young country was especially susceptible to peer pressure, followed along and snapped up some colonies of its own. The US saw that Spain's hold on its empire was weak, and like some kind of expansionist predator, it jumped into the Cuban War for Independence and turned it into the Spanish-Cuban-Phillipino-American War, which usually just gets called the Spanish-American War. John will tell you how America turned this war into colonial possessions like Puerto Rico, The Philippines, and almost even got to keep Cuba. The US was busy in the Pacific as well, wresting control of Hawaii from the Hawaiians. All this and more in a globe-trotting, oppressing episode of Crash Course US History.

Most Schools and Teachers spare no effort to ensure that the children and students they work with and teach, have the best chance of success by selecting and using the best and most appropriate resources available to them.

Correctly subtitled video provides the ideal curriculum learning resource for all children and students of all ages because it provides the choice to learn by watching, listening to, or reading each specific topic or lesson.

In other words, it enables each student to learn using their preferred Learning Style.

It also enables each child or student to learn at their own individual speed which is essential to helping them achieve their greatest individual potential.

Research over the last 30 years has demonstrated the link between the use of subtitles or captions on video and improved reading and literacy skills. So when you use subtitled video as a curriculum learning resource, it enables each individual to improve their reading and literacy skills simultaneously as they study each curriculum topic.

PLEASE NOTE: Official statistics indicate that as many as 1 in every 7 students of school age lives with some type of Dyslexia - many of whom remain undiagnosed. The use of textbooks and printed materials limits the ability of the dyslexic student to absorb the information being provided for them to study and learn WHEREAS Visual Learning provides the easiest and most effective solution.
