Fact Family Triangles - Math for 1st Grade - Kids Academy

Math for 1st grade is an exciting time for young learners. Students move towards learning more complex math concepts in addition and subtraction problems. Fact families are taught in 1st grade and children can quickly learn the relationship between addition and subtraction. A fact family consists of three numbers. Four math facts are made with the three numbers. Students quickly discover the commutative property of addition and it’s inverse property of subtraction. Once a student understands the fact family’s addition and subtraction, he or she now solve addition and subtraction problems more easily and develop a stronger sense of number relationships.
This video teaches fact families for 1st grade in a fun and easy way with the concept illustrated and explained simply so that young learners can understand. In the video, we see an arctic, snowy scene with dog sled dogs and a man dressed in a warm coat. The video uses the arctic theme to demonstrate fact families. The character of the man shows the relationship between numbers adding up to less than 10, using visuals such as ropes for the dogs, fish snacks for the dogs and seals. For example, the video pictures a group of 2 seals and a group of 6 seals. The fact family made with these numbers is:

2+6=8

6+2=8

8-2=6

8-6=2

Along with the picture visuals, fact family triangles show the numbers in the fact family.

When teaching math for 1st grade, it is helpful to teach the concepts in different ways. Students benefit from direct instruction but also from video instruction. This video assists the parent or teacher in teaching fact families for 1st grade. Students quickly learn the relationship between addition and subtraction and become more proficient in their computations.

Q. I'd like to show my students this video but my school blocks YouTube videos. Where else can I watch this video to work around this problem?
A. You can watch this video here; ad-free and child-safe:

https://numberock.com/

Follow Lindsey and her cousin Benji as they go on a picnic and see all sorts interested animals representing the numbers 1 to 20. They count to 20 to find out how many dancing ducks there are, whistling fish, and even maestro bunnies jamming away on the upright bass as they sing, counting from 1-20 with all their new human and animal friends.

Q. What grade levels do this video target?
A. This video targets learning standards in Pre-K, kindergarten, and 1st Grade.

Q. Where did you guys come from?
A. Numberock is a project that I, Mr. Hehn, began as a 5th Grade math teacher of 7 years. It came together after years of experimenting with my lessons trying to figure out the best way to help my students retain the math concepts they were learning.

Q. Does Numberock drive real results in the classroom?
A. I knew I found the secret sauce when not only were my students retaining the concepts longer, they were singing the songs outside of the classroom during recess and at home with their parents during dinnertime. The songs were so catchy, my students couldn't get the math songs out of their head!

During testing, I often found my students humming the melodies in order to jostle their memory of a rule or problem solving process. As we've all experienced, there is something about the power of music that allows us to retain information easier and for longer periods of time. Without getting into the finer details of multi-sensory learning and how it often helps the students who most need the help, the power of a catchy song is hard to deny.

Q. I love your songs. Where can I experience more of what NUMBEROCK has to offer?

A. Make sure to check out our additional teaching resources over on our website at numberock.com.
(see clickable link at the top of this YouTube description).

Once there, you can access our complete library of learning resources which can be accessed free for a full month (and you can cancel anytime). At the end of the month you'll have the opportunity to lock in a price of $4.95/month or $49.95/year for as long as the subscription remains active.

Premium members gain immediate access to a wide variety of video-aligned activities like worksheets, printable posters/anchor charts, task cards, self-graded assessments with grade-book recording + individual student performance reports, printable games, and more.

We have additional teaching resources that are always expanding over at https://www.numberock.com. For the low price of $4.95/month, premium members gain access to video-aligned activities like worksheets, printable posters/anchor charts, task cards, self-graded assessments, games, and more.

Coming Soon:

1. Number Notes | Were currently working on creating exercises where students will be able to take notes artistically on printable templates featuring characters from the videos.

Research has shown that this will help to integrate their artistic side side of the student's brain with the mathematical side of their brain which helps with long-term memory retention. Our own research has shown us that teacher's who use start using these templates love them! It seems to be a natural fit as we move beyond our unique auditory learning tools into visual learning tools, that when used in concert, cater to the different types of learners that you teach everyday.

Hope to see you at https://numberock.com!

Our Counting to 20 Song for Kids video is aligned with the following Common Core standards:

CCSS K.CC.3

Write numbers from 0 to 20. Represent a number of objects with a written numeral 0-20 (with 0 representing a count of no objects).

CCSS. K.CC.4a
When counting objects, say the number names in the standard order, pairing each object with one and only one number name and each number name with one and only one object.

CCSS K.CC.4b
Understand that the last number name said tells the number of objects counted. The number of objects is the same regardless of their arrangement or the order in which they were counted.

CCSS.K.CC.4c
Understand that each successive number name refers to a quantity that is one larger.

CCSS.Math.Content.K.CC.5
Count to answer "how many?" questions about as many as 20 things arranged in a line, a rectangular array, or a circle, or as many as 10 things in a scattered configuration; given a number from 1-20, count out that many objects.

Factors and Multiples Made Easy | Grade 3 -5 | Math for Kids Teacherflix 6 Views • 2 years ago

Oh, look! It seems like John, Peter, and Anna missed one of their math classes. John is concerned that they might have missed out on some important concepts related to factors and multiples.

However, thanks to Anna's idea, they have decided to visit Bhanu, who can teach them about the magic of factors and multiples.

Did you know that factors are numbers that we can multiply together to get another number, and multiples are the result of multiplying a number by an integer?

Although they are different concepts, factors, and multiples are related to one another because both involve multiplication.

Isn't it interesting? Let's watch the video together to learn more about multiples and factors!

Welcome our new video: Solving Word Problems for Grade 1 | Math | Kids Academy

Solving word problems are a very important lesson and a basic concept for kids. It is important for the kids to learn it because this becomes very important in later studies.

Now to understand the world problems you need to use the child’s imagination.
As a beginner lesson, we will only start with the basics. We will match the world problems with pictures according to the description in the world problem. As the kid reads the world problem he will match the information with the pictures.

For example, if the world problem says that there are 10 apples and 2 oranges, the kid will match the first part of the problem with 10 apples and the second part with 2 oranges. Then, of course, they will match the answer for example if it’s a multiplication word problem for kids the answer to this word problem would be 20.

The world problems help the kid to have a better understanding of words and are better able to make logical sense out of words. More and more practice will make this concept easier and clearer.

Kids Academy, will help your child practice and apply basic math skills through fun puzzles and mini-games in our application.

Kids Academy will guide your little math explorer through intuitive lessons with the help of our professors. This App combines math and fun while mastering the basic Common Core Math Curriculum – math has never been so FUN until NOW.!
