In which The Art Assignment visits New York-based artist Toyin Odutola and receives the challenge to create a GIF! But not just any GIF--it must articulate something intimate that is indispensable to you.
INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Think of something intimate that is indispensable to you. (It doesn't have to be a body part. It can be an object, place, memory, anything.)

Today we meet with artist and musician Nathaniel Russell. Nat's work plays with the divide between real and imagined, making posters and flyers for events that may or may not exist. His assignment asks you to make a fake flyer and share it with the world too.
INSTRUCTIONS - Fake Flyer
1. Make a flyer that gives advice, shares something about your life, or promotes an imagined event
2. Put it out in to the world

What is white? What is any color? Philadelphia-based abstract painter Odili Donald Odita talks with us about his work and offers us an assignment about color.
INSTRUCTIONS - Whitescapes
1. Find a white object and place it next to another white object. Compare how the two colors change.
2. Describe the difference in color
3. Change the lighting and take note of how the colors change
4. Name the colors in the new lighting
5. Share your findings in whatever way you see fit, using #theartassignment
