I get asked a lot what I recommend for assessing students’ math understanding. The answer is really based upon what you are using it for. I know we have requirements for the types of math assessments we have to give, but often those assessments don’t actually inform our instruction which to me is the most important reason to assess our students.
I’m Christina Tondevold, The Recovering Traditionalist, and today we’re going to take a look at The Best Math Assessment Tool That Informs Instruction in our quest to Build our own Math Minds so we can Build the Math Minds of our kiddos.

Instructional Goal: Students are able to utilize mathematical models to demonstrate conceptual understanding.
The quality of instruction is a function of the teacher’s knowledge and use of mathematical content, the teacher’s attention to and handling of students, and the student’s engagement in and use of mathematical tasks is the key for problem-centered classrooms.
