Have you ever heard of the name Sitting Bull? In this video, you and your kids will learn all about this incredible Lakota chief. Sitting Bull lived during the time of Manifest Destiny and the Indian Removal Act. Manifest Destiny was the idea that it was America's God-given right to expand westward and own all the land. The Indian Removal Act allowed the US government to force Native Americans to reservations.
Sitting Bull was born in 1831 with the name of Jumping Badger. It wasn't until he was 14 that he earned the name Sitting Bull after defeating an enemy. This brave act foreshadowed a life of courage as he continually defended his people throughout his life. Most famously, he and his people defeated the US soldiers under George Custer's command in the Valley of the Little Bighorn.
Sadly, Sitting Bull and his people were forced onto reservations despite the Treaty of Fort Laramie that promised the Black Hills of South Dakota to the Lakota nation. He was given permission to travel and met Annie Oakley and Buffalo Bill Cody. Cody managed a wild west traveling show to which Sitting Bull became a part. However, Sitting Bull experienced a lot of persecution and eventually left the show. He lived out the remainder of his days on the reservation until he was killed in 1890.
We hope you and your student(s) enjoyed learning about this incredible Native American chief! If you want to learn even more, head over to our website and download one of our many free lesson plans, full of activities, worksheets, and more!

Pilgrims for Kids will give you a brief history of the Pilgrims and the first Thanksgiving.
It all happened about 400 years ago. There was a group of travelers who came to America in search of religious freedom. They wanted to worship God in their own way in England, but they were not permitted. Instead, they boarded ships and went on a journey. These people are referred to as the Pilgrims.
The Pilgrims left Europe for America on September 20, 1620, and
established a colony called Plymouth. A colony is an area set up by a group of people who have usually traveled from the same country. It is a place where they settle to live, work, and raise their families.
Although the Pilgrims were happy to have settled in America, they faced a difficult and cold winter. They were not prepared. They built a large house and some smaller homes, but for a period of time people still slept on the Mayflower. Many of the Pilgrims died during the winter and of the 102 people who came across the Atlantic Ocean only 47 were still alive.
There were Native Americans living in the same area as the Pilgrims. Native Americans are the people who were already living on the land before the Pilgrims arrived in what is now known as America. They established a peace treaty with the Pilgrims. The Native Americans also agreed to trade for animal furs.
Some of the Native Americans also chose to stay with the Pilgrims and taught them how to plant corn, hunt, fish, and how to survive the cold winter.
After the first harvest in 1621, the Pilgrims invited some of the Native Americans to join them for a feast. Sometimes this is referred to as the first Thanksgiving as the tradition continued after every harvest in the years that followed.

Have you ever heard the name Harriet Tubman before? She was an incredible person who did some very brave things. After escaping slavery through the Underground Railroad, she later became known as the Conductor of the Underground Railroad. This is because she went back to the South to help thousands of others like her achieve freedom!
Both of Harriet's parents were slaves, so she was born into slavery herself. She endured a lot of pain and abuse growing up because she was a slave. Some of her siblings were even sold to other plantations. When she was 24, she married a freeman named John Tubman. Around this time, her father was released from slavery at the age of 45. He kept working on the plantation even though he was free because his family was still enslaved.
In 1849, Harriet escaped to Pennsylvania with the help of the Underground Railroad, a network of people, homes, and hiding places that were set up to help slaves escape to the North. In all, about 100,000 people escaped enslavement using this network! After escaping herself, Harriet returned to the South to help others escape, too. She earned the nickname of the Conductor of the Underground Railroad.

What do you know about the wars that the United States of America has participated in? In this video, you and your students will learn about the Korean and Vietnam Wars, the conflicts that caused the wars, and the resulting effects on the countries involved.
After World War II, Japan lost control and occupation of Korea. The country divided at the 38th parallel, with North Korea as a communist country and South Korea as a capitalist country. The two areas did not get along, even before the war. The two countries officially split, and in June of 1950, North Korea invaded South Korea and began the war.
The Korean War ended up being a fairly short war, but many lives were lost, including civilians of the country and U.S. military. The Vietnam War followed shortly after and lasted 20 years. The United States sent troops to Vietnam about 10 years after the war began after Ho Chi Minh declared war against South Vietnam and bombed two U.S. destroyers. The goal was to unite North and South Vietnam; however, the U.S. and South Vietnam were unsuccessful. It was not a popular war, and the military who served in the war were treated very poorly when they returned.
We hope you and your student(s) enjoyed learning about the Korean and Vietnam wars. If you want even more information, head over to our website and download one of our many free lesson plans, full of activities, worksheets, and more!

Dinosaurs for Kids is a fun and comprehensive look at dinosaur history. In this video we highlight the various kinds of dinosaurs, talk about how they receive their names, famous dinosaur fossils, and we talk about the people who find dinosaur fossils: Paleontologists.
We think that one of the most fascinating creatures to ever roam the Earth was the dinosaur. You most likely have heard of dinosaurs, seen pictures of them on TV or the Internet, or may have seen their bones in a museum. Dinosaurs are an interesting group of animals that no longer exist, meaning they are extinct. Dinosaurs evolved, meaning they changed, over millions of years.
In this dinosaur for kids video we also talk about how the dinosaurs’ extinction took place about 66 million years ago and 75% of all life on Earth died. There are many theories or guesses as to what may have happened leading to the extinction. They include worldwide volcanic eruptions, changes in the Earth’s climate, or perhaps a meteorite from space smashing into the Earth.

Have you ever heard of condor? In this video for kids, we will discuss interesting facts and characteristics of this large predator. Follow along with the high-interest reading lesson plan on our website! Condors are large black birds with triangular patches of white on the underside of its wings. They have the largest wingspan of any North American birds. In fact, sometimes they are mistaken for small, distant airplanes.
Usually, the males are smaller than females when it comes to birds of prey. But with condors, it's the opposite. The females a little smaller, but not by too much. These birds weigh about 20 pounds! The head and neck of a condor are bald, which is an adaptation for hygiene. When they're high in the sky, the UV rays of the sun disinfects their skin. This makes them resistant to disease and infection! Depending on the bird's mood, its skin color ranges in color. Plus, the changing skin color is a way for them to communicate with other condors.
Wild condors can travel up to 150 miles a day for food. They eat carrion, which is the decaying carcass of a dead animal. They prefer large animals like horses, cows, and mountain lions. But they aren't too picky. They will feast on smaller animals if they need to. Given that their meal is dead, you would think it would smell really bad. But condors have no sense of smell!
We hope you and your student(s) enjoyed learning about these interesting birds! If you want to learn even more, head over to our website and download one of our many lesson plans about animals, full of activities, worksheets, and more!
