It's hard to imagine because it was so long ago in history, many people thought a person could come aboard a ship in Europe, sail west, and end up in a port in Asia. Columbus was not the first to think this was possible, but he may be the best known because he left journals and logs of his trip. Dolphins are among the most unique mammals. In Dolphins for Kids, you will learn all about these beautiful creatures. Despite the fact that they look like really big fish, they are not! They breathe air, give live birth to their young, nurse their babies with milk, have hair at some point, and are warm-blooded.

Did you know that dolphins are actually part of the larger group of animals called whales? (And did you know the killer whale is a species of dolphin?) Dolphins come in different colors, like black, white, or grey. Their skin is smooth and rubbery, like a bar of slippery soap. They have a flipper on either side of their body and a triangular-shaped fin on their backs. Dolphins look a lot like porpoises, so people often confuse the two.

Generally, dolphins live in groups called pods that usually range from 2 to 30 dolphins. During mating season, they form superpods that can have hundreds of dolphins! How do they keep track of each other? Well, one really interesting fact about dolphins is that they have names. Each dolphin is given a unique whistle right after their birth. They learn their whistle from their mother.

Part of becoming financially literate is understanding how to calculate interest. In this video, your kids or students will learn what exactly interest is and how they can calculate it. Interest is an amount of money that you either pay or earn. Whether you pay or earn depends on the situation. If you borrow money, you have to pay interest. If you save money at a bank, you will earn interest.

There are a few terms you should be familiar with. The principal is the amount of money you start with that you are borrowing or spending. Another term to know is rate. The rate is the percentage you are charged (if borrowing money from a bank/company) or paid (if saving money in a bank). You will be able to use the rate and principal to determine the interest using an equation: Interest = Principal x Rate x Time (years).

The video goes through a helpful example scenario to walk you through calculating interest when saving money at a bank. In this case, Frankie Finance is starting with $200. The rate will be 0.15. Based on the equation, Frankie will earn $30 dollars per year in interest. Next, you can follow another scenario in which Frankie borrows money and owes $30 extra a year! The equation is the same regardless of whether or not you're borrowing or saving.

Simple Machines for Kids teaches all about the main 6 simple machines in a fun and interactive way. We will learn about the different simple machines, which are; Incline Plane, Lever, Wedge, Screw, Wheel and Axle, and the Pulley. Almost any machine is created with one of these elements.

The inclined plane can be found in many places. It is triangular shaped with a smooth and even surface and helps move objects to higher or lower places.

The lever is a beam with a ridge that freely rotates or moves on a pivot. It helps you move heavy objects with ease.

The wedge is often attached to a handle. Used for cutting, splitting, tightening, to hold back or together, or for scraping.

Screws are cylinders with a solid top at one end, and a pointed
tip at the other end. Used to hold things together as they pull or push the object.

The large disc is the wheel and the small cylinder is the axle. The wheel is one of the greatest inventions in human history, but would not work without the axle.

A wheel with a groove in it, and a rope in the groove is called a pulley. A pulley lifts or lowers objects of different weights with relative ease.

In this video your students and kids will learn how animals are classified into different groups. Classification breaks very large groups down into smaller groups. This makes them easier to be studied. Scientists classify animals, plants and insects based on things they have in common. Just like kids would do with their toys!

Taxonomy means to classify living things. Scientists and biologists use a taxonomy chart to classify all the organisms on Earth. This chart includes the following groups: Domain, Kingdom, Phylum, Class, Order, Family, Genus and Species. Throughout the video we will learn about the different taxonomies, how animals are classified and spend a little more time on vertebrates and invertebrates. By the end you kid will have a more solid understanding of what makes animals different and may be able to classify them into their proper taxonomies.

Do you know what an alluvial fan is? How about a plateau? In this video for kids, you will learn all about lots of different types of landforms. These natural features include mountains, hills, valleys, alluvial fans, and plateaus, and so many more. Keep watching to see how much you know and how much you can learn!

Let's start with an alluvial fan. This is a fan-shaped mass of alluvial, a type of clay sediment that forms as the flow of a river slows down. Similarly, other landforms are shaped by nature, too. Sometimes it can take thousands or millions of years for a landform to develop. And landforms comprise lots of different types of materials. Fossils, sediments, and lava from volcanoes all contribute to the creation of various landforms.

There are around 10 main types of landforms on Earth. These include mountains, valleys, islands, coasts, deserts, rivers, and oceans. This video goes into each of these types. Mountains, for instance, all have peaks at the top. The Himalayas are the highest mountain range, and they are home to the tallest mountain in the world—Mount Everest. Valleys are the low-lying areas that tend of sit between mountains. The most well-known valley in the U.S. is Death Valley, which is the lowest, hottest, and driest area in all of North America.

#Adjectives

What is the difference between a buffalo and a bison? This video for kids explains that there are no buffalo in the United States (unless you can find one in a zoo, of course). That big brown creature that roams Yellowstone National Park is an American Bison. These mammals certainly look similar to yaks and buffalos and, to some degree, cows. But they are their own species. In fact, the scientific name for a bison is bison bison bison!

The diet for a bison consists of only plants. Bison do not eat meat. Primarily, they eat mostly grasses, weeds, and leafy plants. They actually consume around 24 pounds of grass every day. They eat until they are full, then they rest. Then they eat again and rest again. They do this over and over for nine to eleven hours every day!

At one point in American history, there were tens of millions of bison roaming North America. Sadly, this massive population was reduced to only 500 animals, almost sealing their fate as extinct. The animals were hunted as a sport or killed for other reasons, even government-encouraged reasons. But President Theodore Roosevelt saved the day for the bison when he realized amazing the land out West was with the bison on it. He and a man named William Hornaday formed the American Bison Society. Because of their efforts, bison now live in all 50 states!

Have you ever heard of a woolly mammoth? If you have, you probably know that it looks pretty similar to the modern-day elephant. Woolly mammoths existed about 30,000 years ago during one of the earth's ice ages. In Woolly Mammoths for Kids, you will learn some fun facts about these amazing creatures.

First of all, why did they have so much fur anyway? Well, because they lived during an ice age, that means their environment was covered in ice and glaciers. In order to survive, they would have to have lots of fur to keep them warm. In fact, they had two layers of fur to protect them from temperatures as low as -58°F! That is really cold!

As you now know, woolly mammoths were ancestors to the modern elephant. They grew as tall as 13 feet, which is about the size of African elephants. Unlike elephants today, woolly mammoths had tusks that grew as large as 15 feet that they used for digging in the snow and ice. Their ears were smaller as well, and they had a hump on their back that many scientists believe stored fat that the mammoth could use when food was hard to find.

Scientists know so many things about these furry animals because of the remains they have studied. However, they aren't sure why exactly they became extinct. Most scientists thing it was due to overhunting by humans or rising temperatures that destroyed their habitats. Some believe it might have been a combination of these things. While most woolly mammoths became extinct around 10,000 years ago, the last group survived until around 1650 B.C.!

What do you know about the continent of South America and its countries? In All about South America for Kids, you will learn facts about the geography, people, and history of the fifth largest continent in the world. Speaking of geography, South America touches three of the five oceans: Pacific, Atlantic, and Antarctic (Southern). And only two of its countries are landlocked, meaning that they don't touch an ocean. The largest country is Brazil, which is home to the most populous city on the continent, Sao Paolo, which has almost 15 million people! The total population of Brazil overall is over 200 million, about half the number of people living on the entire continent.

One of the most famous landmarks in South America is Machu Picchu, an ancient landmark meaning old mountain that was discovered in 1911. Even though the Spanish captured much of the Incan civilization that lived along the Andes Mountains, they did not find Machu Picchu. This ancient city is one of the seven new wonders of the world.

South America boasts several other famous attractions, such as the Christ the Redeemer statue, a 125-foot-tall statue overlooking the city of Rio de Janeiro. It is also one of the seven new wonders of the world. Another cool place is in Bolivia: Salar de Uyuni is the world's largest salt flat, spanning over 4,000 square miles! Lots of pink flamingos live on this prehistoric dry lake.

Simple Machines for Kids teaches all about the main 6 simple machines in a fun and interactive way. We will learn about the different simple machines, which are; Incline Plane, Lever, Wedge, Screw, Wheel and Axle, and the Pulley. Almost any machine is created with one of these elements.

The inclined plane can be found in many places. It is triangular shaped with a smooth and even surface and helps move objects to higher or lower places.

The lever is a beam with a ridge that freely rotates or moves on a pivot. It helps you move heavy objects with ease.

The wedge is often attached to a handle. Used for cutting, splitting, tightening, to hold back or together, or for scraping.

Screws are cylinders with a solid top at one end, and a pointed
tip at the other end. Used to hold things together as they pull or push the object.

The large disc is the wheel and the small cylinder is the axle. The wheel is one of the greatest inventions in human history, but would not work without the axle.

A wheel with a groove in it, and a rope in the groove is called a pulley. A pulley lifts or lowers objects of different weights with relative ease.

You've heard them, but you may not have known it. In this video we are going to learn all about compound words. So, what are compound words? Compound words are creating when smaller
words are joined together to make new words with different meanings. There are thousands of compound words in the English language, but kids do not need to learn
all of them it is helpful to learn how to recognize them and throughout the video we share lots of examples and help students learn to identify compound words.


In this video we learn that there are three kinds of Compound Words.
1. Closed Compound Word: These words are written together. Examples include: haircut, airport, milkman, rollerblade, waterway, makeup

2. Open Compound Words: These are written as separate words, but together have a new meaning.
Some examples are: high school, dining room, school bus

3. Hyphenated Compounds: These words have a hyphen located between the words, like: well-known, merry-go-round, twenty-one, first-rate
