You have probably heard people say they are just bad at math, or perhaps you yourself feel like you are not โa math person.โ Not so, says Stanford mathematics education professor Jo Boaler, who shares the brain research showing that with the right teaching and messages, we can all be good at math. Not only that, our brains operate differently when we believe in ourselves. Boaler gives hope to the the mathematically fearful or challenged, shows a pathway to success, and brings into question the very basics of how our teachers approach what should be a rewarding experience for all children and adults.
Jo Boaler is a professor of mathematics education at Stanford and the co-founder of YouCubed, which provides resources and ideas to inspire and excite students about mathematics. She is also the author of the first massive open online course on mathematics teaching and learning. Her book Experiencing School Mathematics won the Outstanding Book of the Year award for education in Britain. A recipient of a National Science Foundation "early career award"' she was recently named by BBC as one of the eight educators changing the face of education.

Is teaching teaching grammar to young children essential? Yes! It is vital to explain to young children how our language works. Learners will read and write better if they understand the fundamental building blocks of sentences. Nouns are an essential part of sentence structure because they form the subject in a sentence; without a subject, a sentence cannot be complete. After teaching nouns, your students should recognize that a noun is a name of a person, place, or thing. Also, they should be able to identify nouns in sentences. For this reason, teac hers should start by teaching nouns using simple words students can understand. Come along as we explain Nouns for Grade 1. Learn singular and plural nouns with Aaron the magician who changes things from one to many by chanting simple spelling rules. Add -s to the base word to make plurals. Add โes, when you see s, ch, sh, x, or z at the end. When a word ends with a vowel and โy just add โs, and if it ends in a consonant and โy change the -y to โI and add โes. An โf or โfe at the end should be changed to โv and an โes must be added to make plurals. Abracadabra! Get ready to chant the spelling rules and find some examples too!
