An educational video for children that talks about genres of music. Genres of music are the different types or styles of music. Every genre of music is different. There are differences in how they sound, how people play them, what instruments they use and even where they come from. One of them is classical music. Classical music began in the 16th century in Europe. In those days, there wasn’t television and there weren’t any cell phones so classical music was people’s entertainment. People enjoyed classical music in theaters as well as in the homes of rich people. Another is opera. Opera is a musical genre that began in Italy in the late 16th century. Its main characteristic is that it tells a story. In opera, we can hear a big orchestra and we can see opera singers that play the different characters in the story the opera tells. Jazz has its origins in the southern United States and began to be played in the early twentieth century. It is a unique type of music, which uses different string, wind and percussion instruments. Rock and Roll music began in the 1950s in the United States. Rock and Roll is a genre of music that is usually played with electronically amplified instruments. Typical instruments are electric guitar, electric bass, keyboard and drums. Finally, we discuss pop. Did you know that ""pop"" is short for ""popular""? This genre of music also started in the United States in the 1950s and is still very popular today.

This video is a very useful and interesting resource for children. It is perfect for teaching what genres of music are. It is an excellent video for an elementary music class.
