Pythagorean Theorem Solving for Hypotenuse or a Leg
How to use the Pythagorean Theorem to find the hypotenuse or a leg length.
Learn how to use the Pythagorean theorem. The Pythagorean theorem expresses the relation among the three sides of a right triangle. A right triangle is a triangle with one angle of 90 degrees. This theorem can be used to calculate the missing length of a right triangle. The Pythagorean theorem states that the square of the hypotenuse is equal to the sum of the squares of the two sides equals the square of the hypotenuse. The hypotenuse is the side opposite the right angle.
Example problems
