Alzheimer's Disease is a type of dementia that causes problems with memory, thinking, and behavior. Dementia is a set of symptoms that may include memory loss and difficulties with thinking, problem-solving, or language. Alzheimer’s Disease is the most common cause of dementia.

Alzheimer's Symptoms: As a person ages, they may forget things. It is normal. However, one of the symptoms of AD is consistent memory loss, especially of recent events and new information. This is the most noticeable trait of Alzheimer’s, it usually occurs gradually at first, but gets worse over time.

Alzheimer's Prevention Ideas: As you learn, your brain is constantly making connections, and one way that might help prevent Alzheimer’s as you get older is to produce new connections. A century is a pretty long period of time, so a lot can happen in those hundred years. Historians divide time into centuries and decades to make it easy to study events and other things from specific times in history. In 20th Century for Kids, you will learn about lots of different events, inventions, historical figures, and other things from the year 1901 through the year 2000 of American history.

The early years of the 20th century brought with it the first airplane from the Wright brothers, Oreo cookies, and the Spanish Influenza pandemic. Right after that global pandemic, scientists developed insulin and penicillin, which saved millions of lives. This is also when the Great Depression occurred, and many people lives and lifestyles changed drastically.

In the next few decades, Amelia Earhart took flight, the Monopoly board game made its debut, and the second World War began and ended. In addition, the time around the middle of the century introduced M&Ms and Cheerios to the world. Velcro, color TV, and seatbelts were all invented in the 1950s, and this is also when Charlie Brown, Disneyland, and McDonald's started.

One of the most significant decades is the 60s, which focused a lot of civil rights. This is also the decade during which man stepped on the moon, the first super bowl was held, and the Beatles became famous. The last few decades likewise brought about lots of interesting inventions, products, and events. For instance, the first Star Wars movie released in 1977, and the first Harry Potter book was published in 1997.

We hope you and your student(s) enjoyed learning about many significant events, people, and inventions from the 20th century! If you want even more information, head over to our website and download one of our many free lesson plans, full of activities, worksheets, and more!

John F. Kennedy for Kids is a great video that discusses the life of one of the country's most popular presidents. He was born at the end of May in 1917, and he was the second of nine children. Growing up, he was often sick and even battled a sever case of scarlet fever when he was only three years old. But he worked really hard and had lots of help to get better.

At age 19, he enrolled in Harvard University and focused on history and government. He graduated college and then joined the Navy. Once there, he immediately distinguished himself when he earned a purple heart and became a war hero after the boat he commanded was destroyed. He gained the nickname of JFK, which is often what people refer to him as.

After the war, JFK pursued politics and ran for office as a Democrat. He first served in the House of Representatives and then in the senate of Massachusetts. He married Jacqueline Bouvier and had two living children. John F. Kennedy ran for president with Lyndon B. Johnson as his VP. And he won! He became the youngest person ever elected, and the first Catholic, to the office of president.

JFK was a huge supporter of the civil rights movement and wanted to pass more laws that guaranteed equal rights for people. Sadly, he was assassinated in 1963, less than three years after he was elected. Despite his short presidency, his legacy lives on. His call for peace, justice, and equality are still important today.

We hope you and your student(s) enjoyed learning about the youngest president of the United States! If you want even more information, head over to our website and download one of our many lesson plans, full of activities, worksheets, and more!

North Korea is one of the most isolated and closed off countries in the world. Its official name is the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. The country is roughly the size of the U.S. state of Pennsylvania. And its total population is estimated to be around 25 million people. In All about North Korea for Kids, you will learn a lot more about this country, even though it's not easy to visit.

The government in North Korea is communist, meaning that it controls the lives of most of its citizens, even down to people's haircut! There are only 28 approved haircuts, so every citizen must choose from that list which hair style they want. Citizens can also be arrested for watching certain movies or practicing certain religions. They are also not allowed to talk about ideas that go against the government.

The government also controls the media and news. Propaganda, or news that makes the country look good, is common in the country, and there is no internet access. In fact, most North Koreans have never even seen a computer. Additionally, few people are allowed to leave the country, and only a few people are allowed to visit. Those individuals can only see approved parts of North Korea and are watched closely.

When Japan lost the war in World War II, the Soviets gained control of northern half of the Korean peninsula, so North Korea became a communist country. The Americans controlled the southern half, so South Korea became a democratic country. When the Soviets left in 1948, many conflicts between the two Korean countries arose. After a resulting Korean war, the same family has maintained control of North Korea and kept it isolated from the world.

We hope you and your student(s) enjoyed learning about Anne Frank! If you want even more information, head over to our website and download one of our many free lesson plans, full of activities, worksheets, and more!

In our video Thanksgiving for Kids, you will learn about the history of our very first "Thanksgiving" and how the holiday as we know it today became official.

The story of the first Thanksgiving is quite different from the holiday we celebrate today. When you hear the word Thanksgiving the first thing you may think about is turkey, or maybe the Fall or football, or perhaps you look forward to a couple of days off from school. In the 1600s, the first Thanksgiving had nothing to do with turkey, football, or school. It did take place during the Fall, and there was a feast shared by many people.

Thanksgiving is an annual celebration and a national holiday which commemorates a harvest festival celebrated by the Pilgrims in 1621. In the United States, it is held on the fourth Thursday in November. It is often remembered by religious observances
and a traditional meal, which today includes turkey. The present Thanksgiving holiday did not become official until 1863.

Before that time, three different presidents beginning with Washington tried to make it a national holiday, but it was limited to state observances and celebrations. However, many people believed that Thanksgiving should become a national holiday. Sarah Josepha Hale, an editor of a popular women’s magazine campaigned to make it a national holiday again. Finally, in 1863 President Abraham Lincoln declared Thanksgiving as a holiday to give thanks for “general blessings”.

Since that time America has celebrated Thanksgiving every year with a traditional meal, often with family and friends, and giving thanks for their blessings.

Imagine having to hide in a secret hidden room to protect yourself and your family. That's what Anne Frank and her family had to do during World War II. In this video for kids, you will learn a lot about Anne Frank, an incredible individual who endured unimaginable suffering like so many other Jewish people during this time in history.

Anne Frank was born in Germany in 1929 to Otto and Edith Frank. She also had a sister named Margot. Otto's family, who was Jewish, had lived in Germany for many generations. Because Adolph Hitler, who hated Jews, gained control of the German government, the Franks had to move to the Netherlands. For a few years, life was pretty normal, but the family was unable to escape to the United States or England before the war started in 1939 and before the war spread to the Netherlands.

Jewish people had to endure immense persecution over the next couple years. There was always a threat of being sent to concentration camps. The Frank family decided to go into hiding. Otto, his family, and some friends moved to a secret annex in 1942, when Anne was just 13 years old. They lived there for a couple years, and Anne started writing a diary about her experiences. She hoped one day to publish it as The Secret Annex and become a famous writer.

Unfortunately, Anne Frank and her family were discovered in August of 1944 and arrested. They were sent to concentration camps a month later. Anne and her sister died of typhus in March of 1945, just two months before the end of the war. Of all the individuals who lived in the secret annex, Otto was the only one to survive. Miep Gies, a woman who had hidden Anne's diary when the Franks were arrested, gave the diary to Otto, who published it under the title The Secret Annex. Anne's wish came true—she became a famous writer whose book has sold over 30 million copies and been translated into 70 languages.

We hope you and your student(s) enjoyed learning about Anne Frank! If you want even more information, head over to our website and download one of our many free lesson plans, full of activities, worksheets, and more!

Who is George Washington? What did George Washington do? Did he cut down a cherry tree? In this video we learn all about George Washington for kids. George Washington was the very first president of the United States and has a profound impact on history not only in the United States but in the whole world! In this short but fun introduction video you and your students will learn all about him and the impact he had on the world.

George Washington was the first President of the United States. He was
born February 22, 1732 in Virginia. At age 16 he had a job as a surveyor, which means he measured the size

elected to the Virginia legislature.
Due to problems with the British wanting to control the colonies,
Washington led the Continental Army in a victory over the British during
a war called the American Revolution.
Several years later, after the war, Washington was elected as President
in 1789 until 1797. He helped create and guide the government based
on the words of the Constitution, and he took on many roles that are still
part of the presidency today.
