This short film features ideas on how to help pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds.
St Paul's CE Primary School in Stoke-on-Trent is a surrounded by areas of high deprivation. The school hands out basic food and hygiene packages to families in need. Staff also wash clothes on site for pupils who don’t have access to a washing machine.
Head Teacher, Nicola Finney says: “Never be afraid to ask the question - is everything okay? I see our school as a family, as a community. And if somebody in that family needs some support then we're going to support that family member. We're not going to turn our back on them.”
Barriers to success aren’t just limited to a lack of food or clothing.
Sarah Boyle, who teaches English at Falinge Park High School in Rochdale says: “We have a lot of young people who come to our school who have minimal understanding of English perhaps even minimal understanding of what a school day looks like and how a school day normally runs.” She runs a school debating team to help give students more confidence with their language skills.

New mental health and wellbeing resources for teachers.

“Sometimes I feel I'm more stressed than the pupils are.”

Teachers tell all in the first of a new series of short films on BBC Teach.

If you’re feeling under intense pressure during exam season, you’re not alone.

In this short film teachers speak frankly and honestly about this most testing of times.

From reassuring panicked students to the relentless countdown to exams and results day, their experiences will be familiar to most education professionals.

One teacher says: “I've seen some terrible things, I've had students who have felt the pressure so much that they've become suicidal and again sadly that [poor] mental health of students is something we're seeing more which I think affects teachers because you feel like you're doing it to them even though we're just a little cog in this machine.”

Another admits: “I've done everything I physically can to make sure that they succeed. And that's given me a lot of countless sleepless nights and feeling - am I good enough?”

We’ve created a BBC Teach support area with top tips to help get you through exam season. And we’ll be adding more new films in the coming weeks with teachers sharing their experiences.

For the earthquake example I noticed a mistake. The shaking amplitude of a 5.0 earthquake has 10 times the amplitude of a 4.0 earthquake. Text and recording say twice. That was a mistake.
