Algebra I on Khan Academy: Algebra is the language through which we describe patterns. Think of it as a shorthand, of sorts. As opposed to having to do something over and over again, algebra gives you a simple way to express that repetitive process. It's also seen as a "gatekeeper" subject. Once you achieve an understanding of algebra, the higher-level math subjects become accessible to you. Without it, it's impossible to move forward. It's used by people with lots of different jobs, like carpentry, engineering, and fashion design. In these tutorials, we'll cover a lot of ground. Some of the topics include linear equations, linear inequalities, linear functions, systems of equations, factoring expressions, quadratic expressions, exponents, functions, and ratios.

About Khan Academy: Khan Academy offers practice exercises, instructional videos, and a personalized learning dashboard that empower learners to study at their own pace in and outside of the classroom. We tackle math, science, computer programming, history, art history, economics, and more. Our math missions guide learners from kindergarten to calculus using state-of-the-art, adaptive technology that identifies strengths and learning gaps. We've also partnered with institutions like NASA, The Museum of Modern Art, The California Academy of Sciences, and MIT to offer specialized content.

Improved math is a channel created to provide additional instruction on essential math concepts. Iโ€™m passionate about math and I know first-hand how important math concepts are in the real world.

Teachers, parents, guardians, homeschoolers, and students can use these videos to help reinforce math skills. These math videos are designed to help teach yourself math or provide self-study math tools to assist when additional instruction is needed. Teaching math and learning math has changed the way many students learn in this virtual environment and during the pandemic. Having on-demand math videos can provide math tutoring needed when children are not able to get help from their teachers after school hours or when trying to do math at home.

The library of math tutorials that I create can also be used as supplemental instructional material for homeschool math. Each full-length video comes with a subsequent knowledge check or math practice problems which serve as a virtual math topic worksheet to test your understanding of each skill. These videos can be paused to work out the problems on your own, then unpaused to check your answers. All of these videos can be found under the Knowledge Check playlist.

I also have a library of shorter videos (less than 1 minute in length - shorts) that are quick math tips and tricks on basic math topics. Some of these short math help videos include problems that you can work on yourself and submit your answers in the comments. They are all listed under my Math Tips and Tricks playlist.

Improved math is creating more videos every day to cover topics from 4th grade, 5th grade, 6th grade, and 7th-grade math. The videos focus on fractions, basic math operations, geometry and ratios but more topics are being added all the time. If there is a specific topic you would like to see covered, drop me a comment in one of my videos and let me know!

Free math help videos will be posted every Thursday and Friday. For additional math resources, check out my math help website at improvedmath.com where I post math worksheets and answers along with additional context on math basics.

๐Ÿ‘‰ Learn how to graph linear equations written in standard form. When given a linear equation in standard form, to graph the equation, we first rewrite the linear equation in slope intercept form, (i.e. in the form y = mx + c, where m is the slope and c is the y-intercept). Next we plot the y-intercept and using the slope, we can determine the rise and the run of the required line and then be able to plot the next point from the y-intercept. Finally, we draw a straight line passing through the two plotted points.

Alternatively, we can determine the x-intercept and the y-intercept of the standard form linear equation by subtituting y = 0, then solve for x and substituting x = 0, then solve for y respectively. Recall that the x-intercept is the value of x when y = 0 and the y-intercept is the value of y when x = 0. After obtaining the values of the x-intercept and the y-intercept, we plot the points on the coordinate plane and then draw a line passing through the points.

So far we have performed partial fraction decomposition with expressions that have had linear factors in the denominator, and we applied numeratorsย A, B, orย Cย representing constants. Now we will look at an example where one of the factors in the denominator is aย quadraticย expression that does not factor. This is referred to as an irreducible quadratic factor. In cases like this, we use a linear numerator such asย Ax+B, Bx+C etc.

To multiply fractions, we can just multiply the numerators, multiply the denominators, and then simplify at the end. So for this first question, []our numerator will be 3 times 8 and our denominator will be 4 times 9, []so that gives us 24 over 36. But how can we simplify 24 thirty-sixths? Both 24 and 36 are multiples of 12, so if we divide both the numerator and denominator by 12, []we can simplify to 2 thirds. So pause the video, and see if you can follow the same steps to work out 5 twelfths times 3 tenths and 7 tenths times 5 tenths. So if we []multiply the numerators and denominators, []we get 15 over 120, but we can simplify this question: we might spot straight away that 15 and 120 are both multiples of 5, so dividing both the numerator and denominator by 5 gives us []3 over 24 โ€“ but now, we can simplify this fraction further, because both 3 and 24 are multiples of 3, so if we divide both the numerator and the denominator by 3, []we get 1 eighth: so when youโ€™ve simplified a fraction, itโ€™s always necessary to check whether you can simplify it further: here, we could have divided 15 and 120 by 15 to get 1 eighth straight away, but because we divided the numerator and denominator by 5 first, we then had to divide the numerator and denominator by 3. Finally, for this last question, []we have 7 times 5 over 10 times 10, []so thatโ€™s 35 over 100, which we can simplify to []7 twentieths.

Partial Fraction Decomposition Form for Repeated Factors:
A factor is repeated if it has multiplicity greater than 1.

If the repeated factor is linear, then each of these rational expressions will have a constant numerator coefficient.

If the factor is to the power of 3. Therefore, 3 rational expressions are needed in the partial fraction decomposition, with each of the denominator is raised to a different positive integer power up to 3, wih 1, 2 and 3 respectively. Sinceย it's linear factor, each of these rational expressions will have a constant numerator coefficient.
