Understand the concept of a ratio and use ratio language to describe a ratio.
A ratio shows the relative sizes of two or more values.
A ratio can be expressed three ways:
• Using the fraction bar as in 2/3
• Using a colon symbol as in 2:3
• Using the word “to” as in 2 to 3.
Write each ratio using the other two ways:
1. The ratio of 4 inches to 32 feet.
4 inches: 32 feet or 4 inches/32feet
2. The ratio of 5 students: 1 class
5 students/ 1 class or 5 students to 1 class
3. The ratio of 4 boys/6 girls
4 boys: 6 girls; 4 boys to 6 girls
4. 2 mountain bikes to 8 road bikes
2 mountain bikes: 8 road ride bikes or 2 mountain bikes/ 8 road bikes
Lichen is a combination of algae and fungi. It is estimated that 6% of the land on Earth is covered with lichen. This organism is a combination of algae or cyanobacteria living among fungi.
This mutualistic relationship allows the lichen to live in areas that would be impossible for plants.
Why is Venus the hottest planet? Venus is a terrestrial planet and is the second closest planet to the sun. It would seem logical that Mercury the closest planet to the sun would be the hottest of all of the planets. Mercury is very hot with high temperatures of + 840 °F (+ 449°C) but also on the side of Mercury facing away from the sun it gets very cold - 275 °F (- 170°C) This is because Mercury has a very thin atmosphere and cannot trap in the heat. The thin atmosphere is similar to you wearing shorts and a t-shirt at the beach. The heat is not trapped next to your skin.
Venus, on the other hand, has temperatures of + 870 °F (+ 465°C)
This is hot, hot, hot. Remember, water boils at 212 degrees Fahrenheit, 100 Celcius and lead melts at 621 Fahrenheit 327 celsius
Why is Venus so hot. First, it is the second closest planet to the sun.
Venus is 0.723 AU 67.2 million miles 108.2 million km from the sun compared to
Earth which 1 AU 93 million miles 149.6 million km
This alone causes Venus to be hot. However, it is hotter than Mercury. The atmosphere of Venus is made up almost completely of carbon dioxide. It also includes small doses of nitrogen and clouds of sulfuric acid. The atmosphere is so thick on the surface it would feel 90 times heavier than Earth's atmosphere. The surface pressures are similar to diving 3,000 feet beneath the ocean. This thick atmosphere traps in the heat close to the surface in the same way a thick jacket traps heat next to your skin.
In this video, you will learn about the Circulatory SystemThe circulatory system, is the transportation system of the body and is responsible for the flow of blood in the body. The major structures that make this possible are the heart, blood vessels, and blood.
The heart pumps blood in order to move nutrients oxygen, carbon dioxide disease-fighting white blood cells, and hormones to and from the cells in the body
The circulatory system has two main types of circulation.
The pulmonary
The Systemic
Pulmonary circulation travels from heart to the lung where your blood picks up oxygen and back to the heart
Systemic circulation is from the heart to the body
Your heart has four chambers that is used to pump blood throughout your body.
Two Atria - which are the upper chambers.
Two ventricles - these are the lower chambers
The left and right side of the heart is divided by the septum
Blood Vessels carry blood throughout the body.
Arteries carry blood away from the heart and veins carry blood towards the heart
Capillaries, which are the smallest blood vessels in the body create a network of vessels connecting veins and arteries.
In summary, the heart pumps blood to the body through the arteries and returns blood to the Body through the veins
You have around 1.5 gallons of blood in your body
It is composed of several different types of cells.
The first type of blood cell is the red blood cell. Red blood cells help carry oxygen
The second type of blood cell is known as the white blood cell and helps fight pathogens
The third type of cell is the platelet and create blood clots.
These blood cells are found in a liquid called plasma which consists of water along with electrolytes and some proteins and hormones
In summary, The job of the circulatory system is to circulate blood to and from cells in the body in order to transport nutrients and oxygen and remove carbon dioxide and waste.

An oblique triangle is a triangle without a 90 degree angle.
The form for area for an oblique triangle equals 1/2 b * c (sin A)
The equation gives us a way to find the area of the triangle without needing to find the height of the triangle.
This means we can find the area of oblique triangles without needing to create right triangles.

Learn how to calculate the area of a composite figure. A composite figure is made up of simple Geometric shapes. In order to find the area you decompose the geometric shapes and then add the area of each shape together for the area of the composite figure.
***** In the first example I make a mistake with the area of the triangle. 1/2 of 54 = 27 not 28.
So the answer should be 63 + 27 = 91 m squared
Sorry for the mistake.

The sodium-potassium pump is a type of active transport that moves 3 sodium ions into the cell and 2 potassium ions out of the cell. I cover why the pump is needed and provides an overview of this type of active transport cells use to move important objects into and out of the cell.
ATP is used to change the shape of the carrier protein allowing the sodium and potassium to move across te cell membrane.

Learn how to solve problems involving Boyle's law. Boyle's law states that as pressure increases then volume decreases and pressure decreases volume increases.
I use the Boyle's law formula Pressure x Volume = K
Example problem:
3.00 L of a gas is at 740.0 mmHg pressure. What is its volume at standard pressure?
A gas occupies 12.3 liters at a pressure of 40.0 mm Hg. What is the volume when the pressure is increased to 60.0 mm Hg?
In this video, I review each of the major biogeochemical cycles. I include carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, oxygen, phosphorus, and sulfur cycles

The spleen is located in the upper left abdominal cavity, just beneath the diaphragm, and next to the stomach. It is similar to a lymph node in shape and structure but it is much larger.
An easy way to remember the anatomy of the spleen is the 1×3×5×7×9×11 rule. The spleen is 1" by 3" by 5", weighs approximately 7 oz, and lies between the 9th and 11th ribs on the left-hand side.
Your spleen is considered part of the lymphatic system.
the spleen consists of two types of tissue called white pulp and red pulp. The white pulp is lymphatic tissue consisting mainly of lymphocytes around arteries. The red pulp consists of sinuses filled with blood and lymphatic cells,
As blood is filtered through the spleen old and damaged red blood cells are removed from the blood. In addition, the spleen produces lymphocytes in response to invading pathogens found in the blood. The spleen is like a large lymph node that filters blood instead of lymph looking for invaders like harmful bacteria. White blood cells stored in the spleen help remove and eliminate these invaders. It is particularly helpful when fighting meningitis and pneumonia
The spleen also stores blood. The sinuses in the red pulp of the spleen are filled with blood and can be used in case of an emergency.
You can live without your spleen. your immune system won’t shut down without a spleen, but it won’t operate as efficiently.
Nervous System controls the human body by sending electrical signal through out your body.
The nervous system can be divided into the central nervous system and the peripheral nervous system.
Body's response to stress
We are exposed to stress often and it can trigger our fight or flight response.
In addition, our body reacts to stress in several different ways.
