Professional Learning
-------------------------------
Professional development to teaching is what position is to real estate. Teachers use the Federal Government's Australian Professional Standards for Teachers to benchmark their skills
and the State Government's Teaching for Effective Learning (TfEL) document to organise appropriate pedagogies to deliver curriculum to students.

Teachers at Brighton Secondary School participate in a variety of teams all working to improve teachers' practice, which in turn improves outcomes for students.

Teachers are in Faculty teams linked to subject areas, as well as in Teacher Learning Communities organised around the Australian Cross Curriculum Priorities (Engaging with Asia, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Histories and Cultures, Sustainability) and the Australian Capabilities (Literacy, Numeracy, Social and Personal, Critical and Creative Thinking, Ethical Behaviour, Cultural Understanding, Information and Communication Technology). Staff teams meet to advance their knowledge.

At Brighton Secondary School staff professional development is augmented by the professional learning period on Tuesdays from 2.30 to 4.30pm.

For any early-stage ML startup founders, Amplify Partners would love to hear from you via 3blue1brown@amplifypartners.com

To learn more, I highly recommend the book by Michael Nielsen
http://neuralnetworksanddeeplearning.com/
The book walks through the code behind the example in these videos, which you can find here:
https://github.com/mnielsen/ne....ural-networks-and-de

MNIST database:
http://yann.lecun.com/exdb/mnist/

Also check out Chris Olah's blog:
http://colah.github.io/
His post on Neural networks and topology is particular beautiful, but honestly all of the stuff there is great.

And if you like that, you'll *love* the publications at distill:
https://distill.pub/

For more videos, Welch Labs also has some great series on machine learning:
https://youtu.be/i8D90DkCLhI

"But I've already voraciously consumed Nielsen's, Olah's and Welch's works", I hear you say. Well well, look at you then. That being the case, I might recommend that you continue on with the book "Deep Learning" by Goodfellow, Bengio, and Courville.

Thanks to Lisha Li (@lishali88) for her contributions at the end, and for letting me pick her brain so much about the material. Here are the articles she referenced at the end:

Brentford have already shown the Premier League that they will be tough opponents. The fact that they run their club differently to most others has been widely reported.

But what do they do differently? How have they adapted the โ€œMoneyballโ€ theory? What other staff departments have they introduced?

So, Wolfpack, we know youโ€™re all stuck at home
Trynaโ€™ do school while youโ€™re sitting alone
You got packets, and books, that you might never read
But us teachers, we got you, we know what you need

We put lessons and work up online every day
To make sure that the stuff that you learned doesnโ€™t stray
And we get that you might be confused how to stay
On top of it all so weโ€™re here to convey

The best thing for you is your workโ€™s in one place
Just log onto Clever, your online workspace
Start on Cuse homepage and library you click
And on the left side there is Clever, you pick

It brings up a box and you click on log in
It should look familiar, this a place that you been
Now put in your login and classes will load
Itโ€™s really that simple, thereโ€™s no special code

Your teachers have pages with lots of fun work
Youโ€™ll be wishinโ€™ your mama gave you more housework
Make sure you login every morning to check
To see the new work that is next on the deck

You have work to be doing in class every day
So schedule your time to ensure you can play
If you ever need help, just give us a shout
Weโ€™ll show you what Wolfpack is really about

Weโ€™ve got worksheets we can put at the foot of your door
If your WiFi ainโ€™t working, thatโ€™s what weโ€™re here for
We have breakfast and lunch we can get to you too
At Brighton, weโ€™re family, weโ€™ll help you get through

Now some teachers weave and some teachers bop
Weโ€™re learning just how to teach from closed shop
We have LearnZillion, Castle, Canvas, myOn
And hundreds of others like Academy of Khan

We can use these cool sites or upload our own
But that doesnโ€™t mean we can do this alone
We need kids to be workinโ€™ and puttinโ€™ in time
Corona ainโ€™t makin us stop on a dime

Weโ€™ll keep grindin and learnin some more every day
From math class to art class and of course ELA
All of our teachers are sittinโ€™ at home
Laptops on laps and eyes on our phones

Waitin and lookin to hear from you all
Cuz everything is closed so you aint at the mall
So put down the TikToks and dubsmash for now
Weโ€™ll give you some time for a break and some chow

But put in the effort and dig down real deep
Give us some work hours and then you can sleep
Itโ€™s crazy how fast things can change in a day
So work hard, play hard and this break we will slay

Make a checklist or schedule to keep right on track
So when we back in class our heads wonโ€™t be whack
Take snack breaks and brain breaks whenever you need
But donโ€™t log off for long or youโ€™ll never succeed

Take time for your family and go for a walk
But stay 10 feet away from the peeps on the block
We miss you already, but came up with a plan
To keep us together throughout this long span

We got facebook and twitter and now a TikTok
To send you reminders and so we can talk
About info and Brighton and important things
And to show you weโ€™re cooler than all you kids think

We know that you miss us as much as we do
So call us or text us and let us know too
Spread the word to your friends about our Brighton news
Letโ€™s make Brightonโ€™s Youtube get all Cuseโ€™s views!
