In this video I would like to talk about the history of microscopes.During the 1590s, the two spectacle-makers, Hans and Zacharias Jansen began experimenting. They put lenses in a tube and made a very important discovery. They discovered that objects near the end of the tube appeared to be enlarged, much larger than any simple magnifying glass could achieve alone.
In the 1660’s Robert Hooke began looking at all kinds of objects with his microscope.
He put all of his drawings in a book called Micrographia
He is credited with naming cells but also studied items like fleas under his microscope.
Anton van Leeuwenhoek was very good at grinding and polishing lenses.
These lenses led to the building of his microscope which was considered the first practical microscope.
In 1674 Anton Van Leeuwenhoek was the first to see and describe bacteria.
Another huge advance in microscopes didn’t occur until German physicist Ernst Ruska and the electrical engineer Max Knoll constructed the prototype electron microscope in 1931, capable of four-hundred-power magnification.
Electron microscopes uses accelerated electrons in order to view objects.
Modern electron microscopes can magnify objects up to 10 million times

This organic chemistry video tutorial provides a basic introduction into spin spin splitting / coupling as it relates to proton NMR spectroscopy. It explains how to use the N+1 rule to determine the multiplicity of a H NMR signal. Students conduct a simple experiment to see how the water level changes in a beaker when a lump of clay sinks in the water and when the same lump of clay is shaped into a bowl that floats in the water. They notice that the floating clay displaces more water than the sinking clay does, perhaps a surprising result. Then they determine the mass of water that is displaced when the clay floats in the water. A comparison of this mass to the mass of the clay itself reveals that they are approximately the same.

Trigonometry on Khan Academy: Big, fancy word, right? Don't be fooled. Looking at the prefix, tri-, you could probably assume that trigonometry ("trig" as it's sometimes called) has something to do with triangles. You would be right! Trig is the study of the properties of triangles. Why is it important? It's used in measuring precise distances, particularly in industries like satellite systems and sciences like astronomy. It's not only space, however. Trig is present in architecture and music, too. Now you may wonder...how is knowing the measurement and properties of triangles relevant to music?? THAT is a great question. Maybe you'll learn the answer from us in these tutorials!
