Students design and build model landfills using materials similar to those used by engineers for full-scale landfills. Their completed small-size landfills are "rained" on and subjected to other erosion processes. The goal is to create landfills that hold the most garbage, minimize the cost to build and keep trash and contaminated water inside the landfill to prevent it from causing environmental damage. Teams create designs within given budgets, test the landfills' performance, and graph and compare designs for capacity, cost and performance.

Student teams design and then create small-size models of working filter systems to simulate multi-stage wastewater treatment plants. Drawing from assorted provided materials (gravel, pebbles, sand, activated charcoal, algae, coffee filters, cloth) and staying within a (hypothetical) budget, teams create filter systems within 2-liter plastic bottles to clean the teacher-made simulated wastewater (soap, oil, sand, fertilizer, coffee grounds, beads). They aim to remove the water contaminants while reclaiming the waste material as valuable resources. They design and build the filtering systems, redesigning for improvement, and then measuring and comparing results (across teams): reclaimed quantities, water quality tests, costs, experiences and best practices. They conduct common water quality tests (such as turbidity, pH, etc., as determined by the teacher) to check the water quality before and after treatment.

Learn how Meiosis is different than Mitosis.
To begin with What is the goal of mitosis and meiosis?
They both create new cells. Both mitosis meiosis start with diploid cells.
Mitosis creates body cells that are diploid. diploid means they have two sets of chromosomes. In humans each body cell has 23 pairs of chromosomes or 46 total.
Meiosis also creates new cells but these cells are gametes which for males is sperm cells and for females it is egg cells. These cells are haploid which means they have one set of chromosomes.

This organic chemistry video tutorial discusses shielding and deshielding as it relates to H-NMR spectroscopy. A hydrogen nucleus is said to be shielded from an external magnetic field if it is an electron rich environment. It will thus appear upfield in the NMR spectrum. Protons adjacent to electron withdrawing group are said to be deshielded and appear downfield in a NMR spectrum.

Do you know the difference between a right and responsibility? In this video, you and your kids will learn that, while they may seem similar, rights and responsibilities are actually pretty different. There are many rights and responsibilities, and some of them differ among various communities.
A right is something every human being deserves, no matter who they are or where they live. For example, everyone deserves food and water, clothing, and more. Responsibilities come with rights. These are things that a person must do or think about that may have an effect on other people. The two concepts do connect.
You have the right to go to school. But it is your responsibility to get out of bed and actually attend. You have the right to healthy food, but it is your responsibility to be home for dinner when it's time to eat. Not everyone has the exact same rights and responsibilities, however. You may have the right to stay up late some nights. But there may be a rule where you have to be responsible for doing chores and homework every day or else you can't stay up.
We hope you and your student(s) enjoyed learning about these two concepts! If you want even more information, head over to our website and download one of our many free lesson plans, full of activities, worksheets, and more!

Is teaching teaching grammar to young children essential? Yes! It is vital to explain to young children how our language works. Learners will read and write better if they understand the fundamental building blocks of sentences. Nouns are an essential part of sentence structure because they form the subject in a sentence; without a subject, a sentence cannot be complete. After teaching nouns, your students should recognize that a noun is a name of a person, place, or thing. Also, they should be able to identify nouns in sentences. For this reason, teac hers should start by teaching nouns using simple words students can understand. Come along as we explain Nouns for Grade 1. Students are already using AI for their homework. But how do we make sure they’re actually LEARNING from it? Anthropic just dropped a new "learning mode” in Claude that’s meant to help them actually learn – by asking better questions instead of just giving answers. But right now, it’s only available to schools. In this video, I’ll break down what this “learning mode” is all about, why it matters, and how you can replicate the same kind of experience using tools at home. Is AI going to make students dumber… or smarter?
