Is it true that some animals cry?
Yes, itโs true. Animals cry. A couple of years ago, zoologists which are people who study animals and their behavior, discovered that some animals, when they feel pain, scared or sad, also cryโฆ like human beings.
Some animals cry for physiological reasons, like crocodiles, who always have to have humid eyes, or seagulls, who cry to eliminate salt from their organismโฆ but there are animals who cry when they feel sad or in danger. Dolphins and elephants, cry uncontrollably when a friend of theirs dies. Seals and deer cry when theyโre chased by a hunter and theyโre very scared. And otters for example, when they separate from their babies. But there are many other animals which also cry,, like monkeys,, giraffes,, or bears.
Well, now we know that animals also cry, but it makes me very sad. To be happy, the best we can do is make others happy, people, and animals too!

Students investigate the weather from a systems approach, learning how individual parts of a system work together to create a final product. They learn how a barometer works to measure the Earth's air pressure by building a model using simple materials. Students analyze the changes in barometer measurements over time and compare those to actual weather conditions. They learn how to use a barometer to understand air pressure and predict real-world weather changes.

The main function of the circulatory system is to carry, through the blood, the nutrients to the cells of our body. It is formed by the heart, arteries and veins and its proper functioning is essential for us to have good health. I have a curiosity Do you know how much all the artery and veins would measure together, put in single file? They would measure 97,000 kilometres, which would be equivalent to almost two and a half laps to Earth, it's incredible, right?
The heart has the main role in making sure that the blood travels around the body. With its one hundred thousand pulsations per day it ensures that blood circulates throughout our body allowing it to distribute oxygen and nutrients into our cells.
We are going to start a journey through the circulatory system so we can understand it much better.
The journey of blood begins in the heart. With the pulsations of the heart the blood comes out through one of the great highways of the circulatory system called the Aorta.
From that moment, the blood flows through our body through many veins. It reaches the neck, head and brain through one side. From there, the blood continues to flow into our arms then through the aorta, around the thorax and abdomen and finally reaching both of our legs.
During this trip, the blood is delivering oxygen and nutrients to the cells through the capillary veins.
As this trip is circular, that is to say it has no end, the blood starts the trip back to the heart to regain nutrients and oxygen.

A year ago, Ayat Husseiniโs dreams of going away to college looked like they were evaporating. In this video the Mathologer uses infinite fractions to track down the most irrational of all irrational numbers. Find out about how the usual suspects root 2, e, and pi stack up against this special number and where the irrationality of this special number materialises in nature.
Another video to check out is this leisurely lecture by Professor John Barrow: https://youtu.be/zCFF1l7NzVQ and his write-up in Plus+ magazine: https://plus.maths.org/content..../chaos-numberland-se
If you are reasonably clued up mathwise have a look at the following VERY nice textbook chapter on infinite fractions by Professor Paul Loya from Binghampton University: http://www.math.binghamton.edu/dikran/478/Ch7.pdf In particular, check out section 7.5.1. The mystery of ฯ and good and best approximations. I use the definition of "best rational approximation" given there. And if you are okay with all this and are having transcendental numbers for breakfast, definitely also don't miss out on the last section 7.10. Epilogue: Transcendental numbers, ฯ, e, and whereโs calculus?
Enjoy :)

------------
Hello Happy friends!
Are you ready to learn?
Iโm Sarah, and today, weโre going to solve a very curious mathematical riddle.
But donโt think itโs going to be about adding, subtracting, multiplying or dividing.
No, no, maths isnโt just that!
We also use maths to develop our creativity, and solve problems that we come across every day.
Iโm going to show you a little riddle called the ants crossing crossing a bridge, and weโre going to see how to solve it!
Itโs nighttime, and four ants are being followed by a hungry anteater.
Suddenly, they come up to an old narrow bridge!
One of them, has a light on its head so theyโre able to see, and she realises, that the bridge is so old, only two ants can cross at a time, so they will only be able to cross individually, or in pairs.
And they always need the light, because otherwise, they canโt see!
The anteater will take 17 minutes to get to where the ants are, to eat them all! What can our ant friends do to save themselves?
Letโs see, youโre the slowest, and youโre going to take 10 minutes to cross the bridge.
Youโre going to take 5, youโll take 2, and because Iโm the fastest, I will take 1 minute.
And we only have one light!
And the anteater is going to take 17 minutes to get here, what shall we do?
These little ants need our help, letโs get our thinking caps on!
But if you need a little more time, pause the video.
Have you figured it out?
Letโs take a look!
If two ants go together, they will take the same time as the slowest ant.
So the best idea is that and 1 and 2 go together.
Theyโve spent 2 minutes crossing.
Now, ant 1 will cross back with the light, and she will take another minute.
That means, in total theyโve taken 3 minutes.
Who should cross the bridge now?
Ant 1, will give the lamp to ant 5, and this one crosses the bridge with ant 10.
If we add these 10 minutes, to the 3 we had before, weโve taken 13 minutes.
Now, the ant that goes back with the lamp is ant number 2, who takes 2 minutes.
So theyโve taken a total of 15 minutes, and the anteater is about to arrive!
So, the ants weโve got left are the ones that take 1 and 2 minutes.
How long will they take?
Of course! itโs two minutes!
And if we add them to the 15 minutes we had before, weโve reached a total of 17 minutes!
Yes! weโve saved our little ants! And itโs all thanks to our maths!
The truth is, maths are so much fun, and so helpful!
Goodbye happy friends! See you next time!
I hope youโre always ready to learn!
Goodbye!
