This video tutorial shows you how to identify the oxidizing and reducing agent in a redox reaction. The first step in determining which species is the oxidizing agent is to start by finding which reactant was reduced. Likewise, the molecule or element that is was oxidized is also the reducing agent. That's how you can determine it. However, you need to calculate the oxidation numbers or states for every element in the chemical equation. Oxidation involves a loss of electrons and occurs when the oxidation number increases. Reduction involves a gain of electrons and occurs when the oxidation state decreases.

An unexplained phenomenon
Outbreaks of this so-called dancing mania involved groups of people dancing erratically and uncontrollably, sometimes in their hundreds or even thousands.
Like a disease, the mania would spread from town to town and even country to country as if it were contagious.
Historical records are sometimes very detailed about these outbreaks which affected men, women, and children dancing often until they collapsed from exhaustion or injuries.

Operation Rolling Thunder was one of the most intense aerial campaigns in U.S. history.
As the largest US air force operation of the Vietnam War, it lasted from March 2, 1965 until November 2, 1968.
Originally, the operation was not the idea of the military, but was the brainchild of president Lyndon B. Johnson and Secretary of Defense Robert S. McNamara.

Though we often think of the Vikings of Scandinavia as being barbarians, when it came to warfare they were quite advanced warriors, as well as being highly practical. So they tended to favour weapons that served a purpose in everyday life, as well as on the battlefield.

Khan Academy Kids invited early childhood expert and founder of Tinkergarten Meghan Fitzgerald to join us for this webinar. We discuss best practices, share activities that foster independent, hands-on learning for young children, and answer audience Q&A.
