Linear Algebra on Khan Academy: Have you ever wondered what the difference is between speed and velocity? Ever try to visualize in four dimensions or six or seven? Linear algebra describes things in two dimensions, but many of the concepts can be extended into three, four or more. Linear algebra implies two dimensional reasoning, however, the concepts covered in linear algebra provide the basis for multi-dimensional representations of mathematical reasoning. Matrices, vectors, vector spaces, transformations, eigenvectors/values all help us to visualize and understand multi dimensional concepts. This is an advanced course normally taken by science or engineering majors after taking at least two semesters of calculus (although calculus really isn't a prereq) so don't confuse this with regular high school algebra.

About Khan Academy: Khan Academy offers practice exercises, instructional videos, and a personalized learning dashboard that empower learners to study at their own pace in and outside of the classroom. We tackle math, science, computer programming, history, art history, economics, and more. Our math missions guide learners from kindergarten to calculus using state-of-the-art, adaptive technology that identifies strengths and learning gaps. We've also partnered with institutions like NASA, The Museum of Modern Art, The California Academy of Sciences, and MIT to offer specialized content.

Algebra II on Khan Academy: Your studies in algebra 1 have built a solid foundation from which you can explore linear equations, inequalities, and functions. In algebra 2 we build upon that foundation and not only extend our knowledge of algebra 1, but slowly become capable of tackling the BIG questions of the universe. We'll again touch on systems of equations, inequalities, and functions...but we'll also address exponential and logarithmic functions, logarithms, imaginary and complex numbers, conic sections, and matrices. Don't let these big words intimidate you. We're on this journey with you!

Did you know that Antarctica, the coldest place on Earth, is a desert? Not only that, it's the largest desert in the world! In this video for kids, you will learn this and other fun facts about Antarctica, the only continent on which people don't live (except for scientists).

Antarctica is an amazing and unique place. Located at the bottom of the earth, it is almost completely covered in ice. Only 2% of it isn't. It is considered a desert because it receives such a small amount of rain every year. So why is there so much snow? It's because the snow that does fall never melts; it's just too cold. Instead, the snow just builds and builds and builds. As a result, it has become one giant piece of ice.

It's far too cold for humans to live comfortably, but it's just right for some animals. The creatures who call this place home include penguins, leopard and weddell seals, killer whales (orca), fish, and krill. The plant life that thrive there include moss, non-marine algae, and many fungi and bacteria.

Perhaps one of the most interesting facts about Antarctica is that the season of winter yields no sunlight! There are only two seasons here: winter and summer. That means that for six months, the sun doesn't shine! It goes down in March and doesn't come up again until the beginning of October! It is dark 24 hours a day for six whole months.

We hope you and your student(s) enjoyed learning about this cold continent! If you want to learn even more, head over to our website and download one of our many free lesson plans about continents, full of activities, worksheets, and more!

Student groups are provided with a generic car base on which to design a device/enclosure to protect an egg as it rolls down a ramp at increasing slopes. During this in-depth physics-science-technology-math activity, student teams design, build and test their prototype creations to meet the design challenge, and then perform basic mathematical calculations using collected data, including a summative cost-benefit ratio. The activity has great potential to build on with additional physics and math explorations. Many student handouts are provided.
This engineering curriculum aligns to Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS).

Posed with a paradigmatic engineering problem, students consider and explore mathematical algorithms and/or geometric concepts to devise possible solutions. The problem: How should a robotic vacuum move in order to best clean a floor of unknown shape and dimensions? They grapple with what could be a complex problem by brainstorming ideas, presenting the best idea for a solution and analyzing all presented solutions, and then are introduced to an elegant solution. Rather than elaborately calculating the most efficient route and keeping track of which tiles the robot has visited, a random number generator determines which direction the robot will take when it hits a barrier. Students are able to visually confirm how an unfamiliar programming concept (a random number generator) can make for a simple and efficient program that causes an EV3 robot (that is suitably equipped) to clean a bare floor. Then students think of other uses for random numbers.

Lyrics:
[Verse 1]
Tiny spider, small and spry,
Climbs the spout, way up high.
Rain pours down, he takes a dive,
But his spirit, still alive.

[Chorus]
Spider, spider, climb so high,
Reach the roof, touch the sky.
Rain may fall, you may sway,
But you try again, each day.

[Verse 2]
Back to spout, he begins,
Ignoring slips and rainy grins.
Rain may fall, cause delay,
But our brave spider, climbs anyway.

[Chorus]
Spider, spider, climb so high,
Reach the roof, touch the sky.
Rain may fall, you may sway,
But you try again, each day.

This video gives you 4 practice problems to see if you have a good understanding of the steps involved in dividing by a power of ten. There are 2 examples where you divide by a power of ten in exponential form and 2 examples where you divide by a power of ten in standard form. You can try all 4 problems on your own and then check your answers at the end.

Improved math is a channel created to provide additional instruction on essential math concepts. I’m passionate about math and I know first-hand how important math concepts are in the real world.

Teachers, parents, guardians, homeschoolers, and students can use these videos to help reinforce math skills. These math videos are designed to help teach yourself math or provide self-study math tools to assist when additional instruction is needed. Teaching math and learning math has changed the way many students learn in this virtual environment and during the pandemic. Having on-demand math videos can provide math tutoring needed when children are not able to get help from their teachers after school hours or when trying to do math at home.

The library of math tutorials that I create can also be used as supplemental instructional material for homeschool math. Each full-length video comes with a subsequent knowledge check or math practice problems which serve as a virtual math topic worksheet to test your understanding of each skill. These videos can be paused to work out the problems on your own, then unpaused to check your answers. All of these videos can be found under the Knowledge Check playlist.

I also have a library of shorter videos (less than 1 minute in length - shorts) that are quick math tips and tricks on basic math topics. Some of these short math help videos include problems that you can work on yourself and submit your answers in the comments. They are all listed under my Math Tips and Tricks playlist.

Improved math is creating more videos every day to cover topics from 4th grade, 5th grade, 6th grade, and 7th-grade math. The videos focus on fractions, basic math operations, geometry, and ratios but more topics are being added all the time. If there is a specific topic you would like to see covered, drop me a comment in one of my videos and let me know!

Free math help videos will be posted every Thursday and Friday. For additional math resources, check out my math help website at improvedmath.com where I post math worksheets and answers along with additional context on math basics.

Thanks for watching my channel.
