Do you know what an abbreviation is or how to make one? An abbreviation is a shortened form of a word or phrase. You can make one by taking letters out and replacing them with other letters or symbols, such as a period. In this video, you and your kids will learn about some common abbreviations, many of which you probably use every day.

One of the most common abbreviations has to do with the time of day. We use a.m. in the morning hours and p.m. in the evening and night hours. What do those actually stand for? "Ante meridiem" is Latin for before noon, so we use a.m. for all the times before noon. "Post meridiem" is Latin for after noon, so we use p.m. for all the times after noon.

Other common abbreviations involve days of the week, months of the year, measurement, and time. For example, we can write Sat. for Saturday or Dec. for December rather than writing out the whole word. In recipe books, you will often find abbreviations for their measurements, like tsp for teaspoon or oz for ounce. And you've probably seen abbreviations like min for minutes or yr for year.

We hope you and your student(s) enjoyed learning about abbreviations! If you want even more practice, head over to our website and download one of our many free lesson plans, full of activities, worksheets, and more!

The abacus predates the alphabet and the invention of glass, but its use can help modern day students increase their math proficiency and understanding. Ulrich Boser, the author of Learn Better, studied how the abacus requires decomposition -- a way of thinking about numbers and their pairs -- that is included in the common-core standards. Using an abacus helps students foster a mind-body connection, utilize their short term memory, and grow their confidence, all which help kids learn better. In this video, Boser, a senior fellow at the Center for American Progress, challenges his daughters to solve math problems using a Japanese abacus. ____________________

Students construct paper recombinant plasmids to simulate the methods genetic engineers use to create modified bacteria. They learn what role enzymes, DNA and genes play in the modification of organisms. For the particular model they work on, they isolate a mammal insulin gene and combine it with a bacteria's gene sequence (plasmid DNA) for production of the protein insulin.

Unlock the full potential of Google Gemini Storybooks for advanced language teaching with this comprehensive training video. Go beyond the basics as we guide language educators through a step-by-step masterclass in creating and leveraging custom storybooks to build complete, engaging lesson plans.

In this advanced tutorial, you will first learn how to precisely control every element of your Gemini Storybook generation, including setting the exact language proficiency level (e.g., A1, B2, C1), defining the context and genre, and even specifying the desired visual illustration style. See how to generate the storybook and then share it with students via a simple link, utilize the read-aloud narration feature, and prepare a printable version.

The video then unveils a powerful, game-changing workflow for advanced content creation. Discover the strategy of generating the story text first within the main Google Gemini chat interface. This unique method allows you to then instantly copy the text back into the chat to generate a visually complete storybook. Crucially, by keeping the original text in the main chat, you can seamlessly prompt Gemini to produce a rich array of supplementary, tailored learning materials:

Targeted Comprehension Questions

Forced-Choice Questions

Curated Vocabulary Lists

Gap-Fill Exercises

This technique automates the tedious task of lesson planning, transforming a single custom story into a complete, ready-to-use lesson package. This is the ultimate guide to mastering Gemini Storybooks to create personalized, high-quality, and level-appropriate content for any language classroom. Perfect for language teachers seeking to integrate advanced AI tools into their teaching practice and maximize student engagement and measurable proficiency gains.

In this video, we are exploring one of the coolest new features for educational technology fans: the create music tool in Gemini.

I’ll show you exactly how to navigate the tools menu to find music generation and how to write prompts that result in high-quality, 30-second audio tracks for your students. We’ll look at:
✅Creating custom songs for specific subjects like science and social studies.
✅Using music genre templates to match your students' interests.
✅Downloading your tracks as an MP3 or MP4 with subtitles.
✅Creative ways to use these songs for lesson hooks, warm-ups, and lyric analysis.

If you want to stay ahead of the curve with teacher tech tips and professional development, using AI to create multi-sensory lessons is a great place to start.

Make sure to check if you have access through your Education Workspace and start remixing your curriculum! Don't forget to tell me in the comments how you'll be using this with your students.

Today we're looking at the Kalinin K-12, an experimental tailless bomber. Its future was cut short when Konstantin Kalinin, its designer, met his untimely end. Though the experimental bomber was somewhat unstable and not large enough to be practical, it did at least prove that the concept of large tailless aircraft could work.
