For much of human history, people made art by trying to represent the world as it appeared around them. Until about 100 years ago, when a bunch of artists stopped trying to do that. It was shocking then and it still upsets and confounds today. How are we supposed to deal with art completely removed from recognizable objects? And why should we? This is the case for Abstraction.

This week we tackle the intersection of art and our changing climate. Throughout history, art has helped reveal the climate around us and highlight our fragile relationship to it. We look at navigational charts from the Marshall Islands, Katsushika Hokusai’s "Under the Wave off Kanagawa", Pieter Bruegel the Elder’s "Hunters in the Snow", Mali's Great Mosque of Djenné, the Ise Shrine in Japan, steadily sinking Venice, the cave paintings of Lascaux, and Robert Smithson's Spiral Jetty, among others.

The Art Assignment continues its journey through New Orleans with Brandan "BMike" Odums, the mastermind behind "ExhibitBE", a collaborative street art exhibition that transformed an unoccupied apartment building and gave it new life. Now he's asking YOU to do something similar.

John and Sarah then discuss the movements in art history of exploring and transforming ruins and highlights Sarah's favorite artist, Gordon Matta Clark.

Decimals are easy to multiply - just count the number of places behing the decimal place for each of the numbers you are multiplying, then add these together to get the total number of decimal places required for your answer.

The Order of operations is the order in which you should do a maths equations. You've probably heard it called BODMAS or PEDMAS...even BIDMAS or PIDMAS....it's all the same thing!
First do anything in brackets (also called parenthesis). Second, do any orders (these are squared, cubed, square root and the like). Any multiplication or divide come next, and finally do any addition or subtraction...left to right.
