It’s hard to define what makes something beautiful, but we seem to know beauty when we see it. Why is that and how does beauty affect our subconscious?
This video was a collaboration with the creative agency Sagmeister & Walsh as a contribution to their upcoming Beauty exhibition at the MAK Vienna from October 23rd onwards. If you want to learn more about the impact of beauty and see tons of gorgeous installations and multi-media objects, go check it out on https://www.mak.at/en_sagmeister_walsh
The Beauty exhibition will also be shown in the Museum Angewandte Kunst Frankfurt from May 11th till September 15th.

I’m guessing you’re pretty familiar with ice. We use it in our drinks, slip on it, skate on it, worry about climate change melting it. But have you ever stopped to really think about this stuff? The freezing and melting of water affects so much of our world. It’s ice crystals in thunderclouds that create lightning. Ice is powerful enough crack boulders, float stones, and alter entire landscapes. Ice is such a common substance, you'd think we'd know everything about it by now. But it has some secrets and weird properties we’ve only just begun to figure out. One question about ice that's, still not totally answered, is one of the most obvious: why is ice slippery? It's a more complicated answer than it seems!

What if Earth isn’t just made up of seven continents? 🌍 Scientists have now confirmed that our planet may be hiding more — ancient, lost landmasses buried beneath oceans and layers of rock. From the recently confirmed Zealandia, almost entirely underwater near New Zealand, to hidden microcontinents beneath the Indian Ocean and Antarctica — new geological discoveries are revealing that Earth’s surface is far more complex than we ever imagined. These findings don’t just change maps — they change how we understand the planet’s history, from shifting tectonic plates to vanished worlds that once stood above sea level.

Students revisit the Pop Rockets activity from Lesson 3, in which mini paper rockets are powered by the chemical reaction of antacid-tablets and water in plastic film canisters. This time, however, the design of their pop rockets is limited by budgets and supplies. They get a feel for the constraints of real engineering projects as well as the opportunity to redesign and retest their rockets to make improvements. Rocket build instructions as well as activity-guiding budget/sketch and data worksheets are provided.

Students investigate how mountains are formed. Concepts include the composition and structure of the Earth's tectonic plates and tectonic plate boundaries, with an emphasis on plate convergence as it relates to mountain formation. Students learn that geotechnical engineers design technologies to measure movement of tectonic plates and mountain formation, as well as design to alter the mountain environment to create safe and dependable roadways and tunnels.

The purpose of this lesson is to introduce students to the basic elements of our Earth's crust: rocks, soils and minerals. They learn how we categorize rocks, soils and minerals and how they are literally the foundation for our civilization. Students also explore how engineers use rocks, soils and minerals to create the buildings, roads, vehicles, electronics, chemicals, and other objects we use to enhance our lives.

Students design and build devices to protect and accurately deliver dropped eggs. The devices and their contents represent care packages that must be safely delivered to people in a disaster area with no road access. Similar to engineering design teams, students design their devices using a number of requirements and constraints such as limited supplies and time. The activity emphasizes the change from potential energy to kinetic energy of the devices and their contents and the energy transfer that occurs on impact. Students enjoy this competitive challenge as they attain a deeper understanding of mechanical energy concepts.

As AI races into classrooms, we risk confusing quick and easy answers with true learning, says AI education entrepreneur Priya Lakhani. Which Careers Are Most At Risk from AI Impact
Artificial intelligence is reshaping the global labor market, with white-collar workers, especially those with higher education, facing the highest risk of job displacement.
Routine and structured tasks in administration, customer service, translation, and content production are most vulnerable, while roles requiring empathy, creativity, or physical skill, such as doctors, teachers, and electricians, remain relatively protected.
By 2026, AI is expected to handle up to 75% of customer service interactions, while 40% of the global workforce will need reskilling. Governments and companies must prioritize training and social protection to prevent widening labor and social inequality.
