Suffixes ful, less, ly, able | English Grammar for Children | Grade 2 | Kids Academy

The English language is very interesting, if you look at the words closely you will see some repetitive combination of alphabets ending the words. These letters that end a word are called ‘suffixes. These suffixes change the meaning of words and can create new words. In this video we talk about 4 suffixes:
-ful
-less
-ly
-able
-ful

When we add suffix -ful to a word it changes its meaning to ‘full of’. For example:
• Colorful
• Grateful
-less
When we add -less to a word it means ‘without’, which means that something is without the word that’s in the start of this word. For example:
• Homeless
• Helpless
-ly
The suffix -ly can be used to answer two questions, how often and how. For example:

1. How did she act? Answer: Badly
2. How often does she dance? Answer: Weekly
-able
-able simply means ‘can’. That something can be done. For example:

• Respectable
• Comfortable

So now you know the suffixes. Find words in a storybook ending with these suffixes, just as a practice exercise. These are very important to learn about good English grammar for children.

Have you ever heard of a woolly mammoth? If you have, you probably know that it looks pretty similar to the modern-day elephant. Woolly mammoths existed about 30,000 years ago during one of the earth's ice ages. In Woolly Mammoths for Kids, you will learn some fun facts about these amazing creatures.

First of all, why did they have so much fur anyway? Well, because they lived during an ice age, that means their environment was covered in ice and glaciers. In order to survive, they would have to have lots of fur to keep them warm. In fact, they had two layers of fur to protect them from temperatures as low as -58°F! That is really cold!

As you now know, woolly mammoths were ancestors to the modern elephant. They grew as tall as 13 feet, which is about the size of African elephants. Unlike elephants today, woolly mammoths had tusks that grew as large as 15 feet that they used for digging in the snow and ice. Their ears were smaller as well, and they had a hump on their back that many scientists believe stored fat that the mammoth could use when food was hard to find.

Scientists know so many things about these furry animals because of the remains they have studied. However, they aren't sure why exactly they became extinct. Most scientists thing it was due to overhunting by humans or rising temperatures that destroyed their habitats. Some believe it might have been a combination of these things. While most woolly mammoths became extinct around 10,000 years ago, the last group survived until around 1650 B.C.!

In this video we learn all about constellations for kids. At night we can see thousands of stars and scientists long ago figured out that the stars line up in recognizable patterns. The patterns form shapes of people, animals, and mythological beings. Early astronomers called these special patterns constellations. Each star in the pattern has a name and is connected to form a different constellation. It is almost like a “connect-the-dots” picture, but instead of using numbers and dots, the twinkling stars are connected to form the special patterns. You have have heard of the Big Dipper, Orions Belt, or Aries, but these are only a few of the constellations there are many more!

Many constellations have their roots in myths. A myth is an ancient story about many different things. Constellation myths are usually stories about gods, heroes and creatures such
as serpents, dragons, flying horses and more. The images related to these myths are formed using connected stars. The Greeks and Romans created the stories for constellations.

In addition to the constellation myths, there are ancient and modern uses of constellations:
1. They helped ancient farmers know when to plant and harvest crops. Constellations can be used as a calendar in the sky.
2. Travelers use them to navigate from one place to another, relying on different stars to guide them on journeys throughout the world.
3. Modern astronomers and star gazers use them to help keep track of specific stars in the sky.
4. Astronomers use them to locate other objects in the sky such as galaxies or nebulae, which are areas where gas and dust are cluttered

A surprising story from the AI industry: **Boris Cherny**, the head of Claude Code at **Anthropic**, briefly left the company to join **Cursor**—and then returned just two weeks later.

In this video, we break down why Boris made the move, what he discovered after joining Cursor, and why he ultimately decided to go back to Anthropic. While he admired Cursor’s product and team, he realized something important was missing: the mission.

At Anthropic, the focus on **AI safety** drives everything. For Boris, that shared mission was a major reason he joined in the first place. Without that deeper purpose, even working on an exciting AI coding product didn’t feel the same.

His quick return highlights an important lesson in tech and career choices: sometimes the **“why” behind the work matters more than the work itself**.

Was this the fastest job reversal in AI? Maybe. But it also raises a bigger question about purpose, mission, and what really keeps people motivated in the fast-moving world of AI.
