Friction is the force that opposes motion between any surfaces that are in contact. There are at least four types of friction: static, sliding, rolling, and fluid friction. Static, sliding and rolling friction occur between solid surfaces. Fluid friction occurs in liquids and gases

Static friction occurs when an object is resting on a surface. The static friction between the boots and the snow allows this person to stand and shovel snow.
When you rub your hands together you experience sliding friction.
When you ride a bike you depend on the rolling friction of the tires.
Sky diving depends on fluid friction between the air and the parachute to slow down.

In this video, I cover many real-life examples of friction and how friction helps you in everyday life.

In this activity, students design and create a slide that will get Jack away from the Giant as fast as possible. Using the engineering design process, students identify the problem, brainstorm solutions, plan a design, create and test a prototype, and make improvements to help Jack escape the Giant!
This engineering curriculum aligns to Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS).

How To Make A Graph On Google Sheets With Multiple Data Sets & Independent Variables
If you are learning how to make graphs on google sheets this video will help. I will show you how to create a chart on google sheets using a data table as well as add a second set of data on the same chart. Google sheets does not allow you to add multiple independent variables so you have to use this to be able to do so. This was used in my physics lab for the velocity of a cart.

What are you waiting for? Eclipses

Hello friends. In this educational video for kids we are going to learn about eclipses. There are two types of eclipses, a solar eclipse and a lunar eclipse, but first of all, do you know what an eclipse is?

An eclipse occurs when an astronomical object is temporarily obscured. Sometimes the Earth is placed between the sun and the moon and other times the moon is situated between the Earth and the sun. These are eclipses… but let’s investigate it better.

The lunar eclipse is when the Earth is situated between the moon and the sun making the Earth block out the sun’s rays which would be shining on the moon, creating a shadow and darkening it. This phenomenon allows us to see the moon in a reddish color…almost as if it were bleeding.

Lunar eclipses are quite frequent and can be seen from any part of the world at night time. They last various hours and can be different types, though the most frequent ones are the partial lunar eclipse and the total lunar eclipse.

When there is an eclipse and it looks as if someone has taken a bite out of the moon, it is a partial eclipse, and when there is an eclipse and one can see the whole moon, it is a total eclipse. Easy don’t you think?

By the way, to observe a lunar eclipse one doesn’t need anything special, a normal telescope or binoculars would do.

Solar eclipses only occur when there is a new moon, and is seen when the moon is in between the Earth and the sun. The moon hides all the suns light or at least part of it.

Solar eclipses can be of different types: total, partial or annular.

A total solar eclipse is when the moon hides all of the suns light and the sun’s face disappears behind the moon. In the middle of the day, it would seem as if night has fallen. The sky darkens and stars appear. Many animals, think it’s night time and go to sleep, and nocturnal animals such as this owl, begin their day, actually their night, not understanding that in a short time the sun will reappear.

Partial solar eclipses occur when the moon comes between the Earth and the sun, but not completely, leaving part of the sun visible. The day becomes slightly darker and the sun resembles a cookie with a chunk missing.

An annular solar eclipse occurs when the moon hides only the middle part of the sun. It is seen as a black circle surrounding a bright ring. It looks like a ring, doesn’t it?

By the way and this is really important, it is very dangerous to observe solar eclipses without special eye protection. Please remember this as it is extremely harmful.
Well now we know a little bit more about eclipses…don’t you think it is fascinating learning new things?

Goodbye friends, we hope you enjoyed this educational video for children about eclipses. Don’t forget to subscribe to Happy Learning TV, so you don’t miss any of our videos.

The sun has been producing light for about five billion years but where does all its energy come from? The most common idea is that the sun is burning gas - like a giant fireball in the sky. If this were true, the sun would have gone out long ago. So how is the sun actually fuelling itself? It is converting its own mass into energy. By combining protons (the nucleus of hydrogen) into helium, it squeezes some mass into energy - 4.3 billion kg per second. It is Einstein's famous E=mc^2 which gives us the quantitative relationship between mass and energy, where c is the speed of light.

In and out, in and out. Staying alive is about doing things. This very second, your cells are combusting glucose molecules with oxygen to make energy available, which keeps you alive for another precious moment. To get the oxygen to your cells you are breathing.
Breathing is an answer to a very hard problem: How do you get the resources that your cells need to survive, from the outside, to the inside of your cells? Every living thing has to solve this problem and the solution is surprisingly different depending on one of the most important regulators of life: Size.

Do you ever wonder what a coral reef really is? In this video we will learn all about coral reefs for kids. We will cover what makes up a coral reef like coral polyps and their exoskeletons, we will learn about famous coral reefs like the great barrier reef, we will also explore the various kinds of coral reefs. There Are Three Main Types Of Coral Reefs: Fringe Reef, Barrier Reef and Atoll Reef.
Fringe Reef grow close to the shorelines of continents and islands and can be attached to the shore, or there may be a narrow strip of water called a lagoon or channel between the land and the reef.

Barrier Reefs occur farther offshore, such as the Great Barrier Reef, often several miles from the shorelines of continents and islands. Las but not least, Atoll reefs which is a ring of coral surrounding a lagoon of water. It usually begins as a fringe reef around a volcanic island. As the coral expands and grows, the island sinks into the ocean leaving the ring of coral. Some are so big, people live on them.

If you want even more we didn't stop at this video! If you want even more activities and learning resources we invite you to download our free 12 page lesson plan, jam packed with more great coral reef information. Download here: https://learnbright.org/lesson....s/science/coral-reef

Math for 1st Grade - Lessons for Kids | Kids Learning | Kids Academy

One of the most difficult subjects for kids in mathematics. Unlike English and other subjects, mathematics requires a little more conceptual development and practice rather than reading and learning. This is the main reason why mathematics is a little difficult for young ones. However, there are certain things that can help in developing concepts and making mathematics easier.

Things like addition, subtraction, division, and multiplication can be learned by involving kids in different fun activities, quizzes, and other interesting things. For example, in order to learn addition and subtraction, you can use some toys and add and subtract them. This develops a child’s interest and makes mathematics easy.

Apart from this, fun activities, dodging question worksheets, fun plays and activities can also help a child in developing concepts easily. In grade one, the child is mostly taught the basic concepts like calculating time, addition, subtraction, division and multiplication. Always keep in mind that teach your child by trying different activities. This way he’ll learn better and faster.
