Sometimes, diagnosing patients is pretty easy, but other times... not so much. Luckily, in a medical setting we have tools that can help us figure out what's wrong with patients, and how to help them. In this episode of Crash Course Outbreak Science, we'll use clinical symptomatology and diagnostic testing to collect data and test our hypotheses about what may be wrong with some hypothetical patients, and use what we learn to help our patients get better and stop the disease from spreading to more people.
This episode of Crash Course Outbreak Science was produced by Complexly in partnership with Operation Outbreak and the Sabeti Lab at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard—with generous support from the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation.

Student groups are provided with a generic car base on which to design a device/enclosure to protect an egg as it rolls down a ramp at increasing slopes. During this in-depth physics-science-technology-math activity, student teams design, build and test their prototype creations to meet the design challenge, and then perform basic mathematical calculations using collected data, including a summative cost-benefit ratio. The activity has great potential to build on with additional physics and math explorations. Many student handouts are provided.
This engineering curriculum aligns to Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS).

A simple phosphorus cycle explanation
Phosphorus is not found in the atmosphere. It is important for the production of ATP, DNA, and membrane.
Phosphorus follows a biogeochemical cycle that ensures the earth always has phosphorus and phosphate.
Substances like phosphorus, carbon, and nitrogen move from living organisms to abiotic factors This cycling from living organism to abiotic factor is a biogeochemical cycle.

In this video, I answer the question " What are adaptations? " Adaptations are traits that increase or decrease the fitness of an organism. In other words, adaptations either help or hinder the ability of an organism to survive. Adaptations are genetically controlled and therefore can be passed on to successive generations.
Let’s take a look at some examples of adaptations from different types of organisms.

What exactly is artificial intelligence? Did you know there are different levels? This video for kids discusses how people use AI and outlines some of the the pros and cons of using it.
If you have used Siri or Google Assistant, or asked a question to Alexa, then you are using a form of artificial intelligence. These all use voice recognition and machine learning to answer questions and respond to requests. If you have ever contacted customer service online to get help, then more than likely, your conversation began with a chatbot, a computer-designed program that simulates human conversation. Chatbots were not always considered AI because they could not learn or adapt. However, chatbots have recently become more sophisticated and are increasingly using the power of AI learning.
There are several beneficial uses for AI, and even more when you pair AI with robotics. For example, we are automating tasks that are unsafe for humans, like mixing toxic chemicals. Many of the products we use today incorporate some form of AI in making the products. But AI is expensive, it can be weaponized, and it can result in the loss of jobs for humans, among other things. While none of us can predict the future, AI is here. What we cannot do is overestimate the power of good or underestimate the potential for disaster. Do the pros outweigh the cons? You'll have to decide!
We hope you and your student(s) enjoyed learning about artificial intelligence! If you want to learn even more, head over to our website and download one of our many lesson plans, full of activities, worksheets, and more!

Most people are still using AI like a chat tool, asking questions, getting answers, and starting from scratch every time.
In this video, I show you a simple workflow using NotebookLM, Gems, and Gemini that turns AI into a structured system you can reuse.
Instead of relying on prompts alone, you’ll learn how to:
• Build a focused knowledge base in NotebookLM
• Define a consistent way of thinking using Gems
• Run different tasks in Gemini without losing structure or quality
This means better outputs, more consistency, and a workflow you can actually rely on.

In this video, I walk you through how to build a simple AI powered mini app using Google Gemini / Gemini Canvas and NotebookLM that can generate instant rubric-based feedback for student work. You’ll see how teachers and students can paste a report into the app and instantly receive clear feedback from a highlighted rubric criteria — no coding required. This is just one example of AI can save time, support consistent marking, and help students self-assess their writing with confidence.

00:00 Learning languages with Google Gemini
01:49 Creating Grammar Lessons with Google Gemini
06:08 Studying from YouTube Videos
11:34 Generating reading material
14:42 Study with Russell
In this video, I take you through a complete masterclass on learning languages with Google Gemini. I specifically focus on how to use the guided learning features to turn Gemini into a personalized, 24/7 language tutor. This workflow is a game-changer for both independent students and language teachers looking for innovative classroom activities.
The video is divided into three comprehensive sections to help you master any language:
Part 1: Grammar and Interactive Activities We start with the foundations. I show you how to use Gemini’s guided learning to explain complex grammar rules in a way that actually makes sense. Instead of just giving you a definition, Gemini acts as a tutor, breaking down the mechanics of the language. I then demonstrate how it sets interactive activities and quizzes to test your understanding in real-time, ensuring you have truly grasped the concept before moving on.
Part 2: YouTube Integration and Vocabulary Extraction Next, I show you how to use authentic content to boost your fluency. You will see how to connect a YouTube video to Gemini to instantly extract key vocabulary and idiomatic expressions used by native speakers. I also show how to use the AI to check your listening comprehension by generating targeted questions based specifically on the video’s content. This turns passive watching into an active learning experience where you can verify exactly what you understood.
Part 3: Connected Learning and Reading Comprehension In the final section, I demonstrate how to tie everything together for maximum retention. I show you how to take the specific vocabulary and themes from the YouTube video you just studied and use Gemini to generate a custom reading comprehension passage. This creates a powerful connected learning loop where you move from grammar and listening to reading and context, reinforcing the same set of words and rules across different skills.
By the end of this tutorial, you will have a clear, repeatable system for learning languages with Google Gemini that goes far beyond simple translation. This is an essential guide for anyone looking to use AI to reach fluency faster.

Tired of repeating yourself to AI? Meet Gemini Gems. In this episode, we show you how to "program" custom versions of Gemini for specific tasks like grading rubrics, Socratic tutoring, or even role-playing as historical figures. Create it once, use it forever, and save hours of planning time every week.

Did you know that 70% of the earth is covered by water? Water is everywhere! You and your kids or students will learn all sorts of interesting things about water in this video.. Water is a major necessity to life. Without water, life on Earth wouldn't even exist! And that includes all life—not just humankind.
This video describes what water is made of: hydrogen and oxygen. It also talks about how water can be found in the form of a solid, liquid, or gas. As a solid, it's called ice. That happens when water freezes. In fact, snowflakes are simply really, really small ice crystals, but they are still water! When water gets hot, it turns into a gas. This is called water vapor or steam.
Water can be found almost anywhere. Most of it is in liquid form and is found in the oceans all over the world. But don't forget about polar ice caps and glaciers, lakes and rivers, and ground water from rain that has seeped into the earth. There are two types of water: salt water and fresh water. Most of the water on Earth is salt water. Humans can only drink fresh water, however, because drinking salt water would make us sick. This video explains that if you compared all the water on the earth to a gallon of water, only a teaspoon of it would equal the amount of fresh water on the earth!
We hope you and your student(s) enjoyed learning about water! If you want to learn more, head over to our website and download one of our many free lesson plans about water full of activities, worksheets, and more!
