“In an age where Rags to Riches is no longer possible, AI is the solution”

Recently, a Korean education Starup Riiid (Yeong Jun Jang, CEO), attracted 200 billion won worth of investment from the world’s biggest venture investment fund, SoftBank’s Vision Fund. CEO Yeong Jun Jang, who believed that “a completely new paradigm shift was possible if AI could recommend better educational content and more suitable problems based on data,” explained his career goals and vision at last year’s ALC2020 and has been endeavoring to overcome the inefficient management system of the Korean private education market.

“Education should nurture talents for gifted students and provide career-exploring opportunities for those who fall behind.” How far has this goal been realized? What kind of ideas managed to move President Jung-Eui Son of SoftBank to action?

Check out the bold and heart-warming stories discussed previously at ALC 2020!

"The constant and lethal threat of COVID-19, it has become virtually impossible to participate in traditional forms of education. The ability of AI Education to mitigate face to face contact(accessible indoors) and have the material all in one package makes it a compelling candidate as a new mode of education. On the downside, however, there are rising apprehensions surrounding the overall implications of AI Education. For one, there is an argument that the quality of AI Education is severely diluted to its analog counterpart. Two, fear that the implementation of AI Education may lead to the gradual extinction of traditional teachers and education. And lastly, fear of artificial intelligence as a whole. In this way, does AI Education still have a way to go in terms of proving its worth and becoming verified by the masses?"
(From "Imagining Post-COVID Education with AI", 2020 Asian Leadership Conference.)
