AI has moved beyond the chatbot and into the everyday workflow of schools.

In one extraordinary week, OpenAI launched ChatGPT Work powered by GPT-5.6, Anthropic introduced Claude for Teachers, Google’s anticipated Gemini 3.5 Pro moved closer, and new safeguarding guidance placed generative AI firmly on the agenda for school leaders.

In this video, I explore what these developments mean for teachers, school leaders and education systems.

ChatGPT Work can connect tools, manage multi-stage projects and turn information into finished documents, spreadsheets, presentations and web applications. It is also rolling out to ChatGPT Edu, bringing more agentic capability into educational institutions.

Claude for Teachers gives verified US K-12 educators free premium access for a year, alongside standards-connected planning and curriculum workflows. A wider school and district offer is also planned.

Google has confirmed that Gemini 3.5 Pro is being developed and used internally. Reports around its precise launch date and specifications remain unconfirmed, but its arrival could add another major frontier model to an already remarkable week.

For schools, however, the real question is not which model is most powerful. It is:
Who has access?
What data can these systems reach?
Which parts of teaching and assessment must remain human-led?
Who is accountable when AI carries out the work?

The Department for Education has also strengthened its guidance around generative AI, filtering, monitoring and the protection of personal data. Schools introducing AI tools are expected to assess the risks and ensure that appropriate safeguards are in place.

At our own school in Dubai, we are introducing Yondr pouches next term. A phone in a pupil’s pocket is no longer only a distraction. It can now function as an unmonitored research assistant, content generator and autonomous work tool.
The AI companies are racing to enter the staffroom. School policy, safeguarding, assessment and professional learning now need to catch up.
