Professional Learning
-------------------------------
Professional development to teaching is what position is to real estate. Teachers use the Federal Government's Australian Professional Standards for Teachers to benchmark their skills
and the State Government's Teaching for Effective Learning (TfEL) document to organise appropriate pedagogies to deliver curriculum to students.
Teachers at Brighton Secondary School participate in a variety of teams all working to improve teachers' practice, which in turn improves outcomes for students.
Teachers are in Faculty teams linked to subject areas, as well as in Teacher Learning Communities organised around the Australian Cross Curriculum Priorities (Engaging with Asia, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Histories and Cultures, Sustainability) and the Australian Capabilities (Literacy, Numeracy, Social and Personal, Critical and Creative Thinking, Ethical Behaviour, Cultural Understanding, Information and Communication Technology). Staff teams meet to advance their knowledge.
At Brighton Secondary School staff professional development is augmented by the professional learning period on Tuesdays from 2.30 to 4.30pm.
