Children working on primary level math skills begin to explore number concepts with larger numbers. Place value teaches students what a number means or it’s value. Students working beyond place value begin comparing numbers. Determining numbers that are greater than, less than and equal to other numbers develops a greater understanding of number sense and logical thinking. Using familiar tools such as number lines and base blocks make comparing numbers easier.
Kids Academy’s resources for comparing numbers for 1st grade include fun animated videos and teacher led exercises. Students watch a fun video with a race track theme and compare the numbers on the driver’s helmets and cars. The video breaks down each number using base blocks and clarifies the meanings of the greater than, less than and equal symbols used for the problems.
Video teachers using base ten blocks instruct students on the value of a single cube which is one, and the value of a long which is ten. The teacher reminds students to look at the number on the left (in the tens place) first to begin the comparison. The students see easily that the number 46 is made with 4 longs and 6 cubes. Students choose which two number comparisons have the correct greater than, less than or equal to sign.
A fun maze activity is included and the teacher uses a number line to show numbers that are greater than or less than the number given for the task of solving the maze. The teacher instructs students that numbers on the right of the target number are greater and those on the left are less. Students begin drawing a line through the maze and only pass through the numbers less than 57!
Save these video activities for your 1st grade level students. Comparing numbers is fun and easy with the Kids Academy resources for teaching, reteaching and enrichment!

Monsters | Moster COMPILATION | Learn Math for Kids | Cartoons for Kids

The city of Monstropolis in the monster world is powered by energy from the screams of human children. At the Monsters, Inc. factory, skilled monsters employed as "scarers" venture into the human world to scare children and harvest their screams, through doors that activate portals to the children's bedroom closets. It is considered dangerous work, as human children are believed to be "toxic". Energy production is falling because children are becoming less easily scared, and company chairman Henry J. Waternoose is determined to find a solution. James P. "Sulley" Sullivan is the organization's top scarer, but his chief rival, chameleon-like monster Randall Boggs, is close behind.
One day, Sulley discovers that Randall has left a door activated on the scare floor, and a small girl has entered the factory. After several desperate failed attempts to put her back, Sulley conceals her and takes her out of the factory. He interrupts his best friend Mike Wazowski's date with his girlfriend Celia, and chaos erupts when the child is discovered. Sulley and Mike manage to escape with the child before the Child Detection Agency (CDA) quarantines the restaurant, and back at their home, discover that she is not actually toxic after all. Sulley grows attached to her and calls her "Boo", while Mike is just anxious to be rid of her.
When they smuggle her back into the factory in an attempt to send her home, Randall discovers her and tries to kidnap her, but mistakenly kidnaps Mike instead. He straps Mike to a large machine called "The Scream Extractor", which he intends to use to revolutionize the scaring industry and solve the monster world's energy problems by forcefully extracting screams from kidnapped human children, though not without harming them in the process. Before Randall can use the machine on Mike, Sulley intervenes and reports Randall to Waternoose. Waternoose, secretly in league with Randall, instead exiles Mike and Sulley to the human world in the Himalayas. The two are taken in by a Yeti, who suggests they travel to a nearby village to return to the monster world. Sulley prepares to leave, but Mike angrily refuses to go with him. Meanwhile, Randall is preparing to use the Scream Extractor on Boo, but Sulley arrives and saves her. Randall and Sulley fight, and after Mike returns and the two reconcile, they overpower Randall, take Boo and flee.
Randall pursues them to the giant door vault, and a wild chase ensues among the millions of doors as they move in and out of the storage vault on rails to the factory floor. Boo's laughter causes all the doors to activate, allowing the chase to pass in and out of the human world. Randall attempts to kill Sulley, but Boo overcomes her fear and attacks him. Sulley and Mike trap Randall in the human world, where two residents at a trailer park beat him with a shovel, mistaking him for an alligator. Sulley and Mike then trick Waternoose into revealing his plot with Randall, while Mike secretly records the entire conversation. The CDA then arrests Waternoose, and Sulley and Mike say goodbye to Boo and return her home before her door is shredded to prevent any more contact with her.
With the factory temporarily shut down, Sulley is named the new CEO of Monsters, Inc. Under his leadership, the energy crisis is solved by harvesting children's laughter instead of screams, as laughter has been found to be much more potent. Mike takes Sulley aside, revealing he has rebuilt Boo's door, and only needs one final piece, which Sulley took as a memento. Sulley enters and joyfully reunites with Boo.

Understanding the value of a number is often taken for granted. It is a skill that is learned in the primary level years. Without understanding of this skill then numbers have no meaning. Many students rote count very well, but this does not mean that they know what a number represents. They have the language to name numbers but not the math skills needed to understand what numbers represent. Knowing the difference between $50 and $500 is one easy example and this is impossible without understanding place value. But, place value for kids is challenging for many young learners to master. Good teachers know that there is not just one way to teach this skill and using different methods and visuals ensures more student success.
The videos from Kids Academy demonstrate different methods of teaching place value. The teaching clips and illustrated videos show place value being taught with place value blocks and T-charts. Visit the zoo in one video and see how the number 10 is represented with different block configurations. Then, find the groups of animals that have a quantity of 10. Explore place value further, and learn the value of a number by counting by 10’s to the number of times shown in the tens place and count up by ones as shown by the number in the ones place. The teacher explains the skill in a different way with the use of a T-chart that organizes numbers neatly into columns and rows that she draws on the whiteboard and carefully explains. The T-chart is also used to determine the number that comes next when counting. In this video series, students will identify what number comes next using place value.
Place value for 1st grade is fundamental. When students learn this skill then they are ready for more complex computations and operations.

And well, if that’s the case and if you are looking for some help with that then yes you are at the right place today. Today we are going to tell you how to make your little one learn math for 1st grade.
You see, maths can be a little boring sometimes. And well, all children have different preferences. Like, there are some who grasp the concepts of math real quick and then there are some children who are dull and uninterested in maths.
Now, as you can’t just let them skip this subject, there are certain measures you can take to teach them mental math.
The first thing you can do is to make them watch Youtube videos for mental math grade 1. Yes, you read that right! There are a lot of online videos available at Kids Academy that will help your little one in how to learn math.
Youtube videos work because you see these videos have attractive visuals that really affect a child’s brain and when your kid starts concentrating, he grasps the concept of mental math right away which is what you want.
Not only videos, in fact, but you can also use different textbooks and different games to teach your kid, maths. It’s all about the amount of effort you are ready to put for your kid. The more you struggle, the better the results will be.

Arrays for Kids | 2nd Grade Math | Kids Academy
Students need simpler things, tables, and representations to learn the concepts of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and even division. Now, this is exactly where an array comes in handy. For those who don’t know, an array consists of numbers and objects etc that are arranged in columns and rows.
Arrays are useful representations of concepts like multiplication. These arrays help in making the students understand these processes easily without getting confused.
It’s basic maths for kids and for examples of an array and more explanation on how it works, you can opt to learn math online for kids.
Arrays are pretty useful to teach students the different mathematical concepts and well, thanks to the internet that we now have several online platforms where we can learn and teach the little ones on how to incorporate arrays in multiplication and division.

Today we’re going to read David goes to School by David Shannon.
David’s teacher always said...No, David! No yelling. No pushing. No running in the halls.
David! You’re tardy!
Sit Down, David!
Don’t chew gum in class!
David, raise your hand!
Keep your hands to yourself!
Pay attention!
Wait your turn, David!
I don’t care who started it!
David! Recess is over!
Shhhhhhhh!
Again?
That’s it, Mister! You’re staying after school!
David, have you finished?
Good job, David!
Yes, David… You can go home now.
