Hello Happy Friends!
Are you ready to learn?
Iโm Sara, and today, weโre going to talk aboutโฆ Well! Just listen!
Sounds good huh? Today, Weโre going to talk aboutโฆ Sound!
-
For sound to exist, there needs to be something, or someone that produces it. Like this guitar!
A medium through which it can be transmitted, like air.
And of course, an ear to receive it.
-
When I play my guitar stringsโฆ
I produce vibrations that travel in waves to our ears, thatโs why we hear them.
-
Soundsโ speed depends on the medium it travels through.
In solids, like iron, sound waves travel at great speed!
In liquids, like water, they travel a little slower,
And in gases, like air, is where they travel the slowest.
-
But, if sounds are waves, why do we recognise sounds when we hear them?
Why do we recognise our parentโs voice? Or a dogโs bark?
Well itโs easy peasy! We recognise them because of every soundโs properties, or characteristics.
-
There are three properties:
Intensity, pitch and timber.
Intensity lets us identify if the sound is loudโฆ or softโฆ
Thanks to the pitch, we can tell if the sounds are high (pitched) or low (pitched)
And by the timbre, we identify what or who has generated the sound.
For example, if it has been generated, by a fluteโฆ
โฆA guitarโฆ
...A dog!...
...Or a cat!
-
Lastly, before I say goodbye, hereโs a fun fact! Do you know what Echo is?
Echo, is when sound waves bump against an obstacle, change their direction and shortly after, we can hear the sound repeatedly.
-
Thatโs an echo, and Iโm that youโve heard it more than once. But if you havenโt... listen up!
Happy Learning!
So cool!
Bye happy friends!
I hope youโre always ready to learn more!

Did you know that dolphins sleep with one eye open?
This is because they sleep with only a half of their brain, the other half remains awake to be able to keep on breathing. In a dayโs journey, dolphins sleep 4 hours with each part of their body. There are 3 reasons why this occurs. The first is to stop themselves from drowning. The second is to remain alert for any danger as they sleep. The third reason is to allow the muscles to keep moving, since mammals have warm blood and this enables them to maintain their body temperature.
Did you know that dolphins have names for each other like humans?
The truth is that dolphins never stop surprising us. The university of San Andrew in Scotland has discovered that dolphins communicate with each other using names. Yes, Yes like me and you. It is the only animal, except humans, that has been known to do this. Each dolphin has a unique name that differentiates it from others.
It is believed that when mothers give birth, they emit a sound. And this sound, from that very moment, becomes their name.
Did you know that dolphins canโt smell?
Even though they have great ears and excellent vision, dolphins canโt smell. To find their prey they use echolocation. This means that they emit sounds that travel along the water in form of waves. When these waves arrive at something that is solid, they bounce back and the dolphin is able to detect them. When sounds are travelling for long distance, dolphins are able to detect predators or dangers before seeing them, but not all of them.
The contamination of the seas and oceans is destroying the lives of many dolphins and other animals. You need to look after nature so this doesnโt occur and to enable dolphins, these marvelous sea mammals, to keep on living in seas free and happy.
