Beth Lawrence, M.A., CCC-SLP, Visual Critical Thinking as a Way to Learn Nuanced Vocabulary
Beth Lawrence holds a Master of Arts degree in speech-language pathology from Northwestern University. She worked in schools, and had a private practice in the Baltimore area for 17 years. She partnered with Deena Seifert, and together they have over 50 years combined experience working with students of all ages with language, reading and writing disorders. Deena and Beth created two highly visual vocabulary programs, InferCabulary and WordQuations. They authored the Test of Semantic Reasoning, which assesses depth of vocabulary knowledge and critical thinking.
Summary:
The session will include both low and high tech methods for helping students really “get” vocabulary. A five minute TedX Talk introduction shares research and background support for how children make meaning from language. Participants are introduced to InferCabulary online then discuss best practices and strategies.
Sneak Peek in the Chat Box:
“The website is extensive.”

Lesson planning is broken down into twelve different components that all school administrators, and state quality assurance for school will require. Most of these components you will already have in your lesson plans. Some of the categories that are required for teachers to have in their lesson plans begin with having a title and date for all of the lesson plans that are being submitted. Other required components for a teacher's lesson are including differentiated instruction for students with disabilities, and ell students. it also should include technology standards, state standards and cross-curriculum standards when they apply to the lesson. This video is part of a teachings in education playlist designed to help educators answer some of the many questions that teachers have throughout the school year. Other videos include teacher interview questions, blooms taxonomy, formative assessment, positive behavior intervention and supports, school climate and school culture, special education background knowledge, and many more. Teachers looking to add a little bit more to their classroom lesson planning can find a lot and really improve their practice through these videos. Remember, lesson planning is one of the most important components of teachings, yet many teachers don't put enough time into planning their lessons.
Contractions Chartlet
Teach your students about contractions with the contraction words poster. This bright and colorful poster features a definition of the word contraction, as it's used in grammar, and has nine examples using common words like, is, had, or not.
The back of the 17" x 22" chartlet has a resource guide with tips for teaching contractions to your students. This is a perfect poster for kindergarten through third grade classrooms or students aged five to eight. The large classroom sized chart can easily be seen from student desks or tables.
Hang it on the wall as a reference guide, actively use it in a lesson on contractions, or do both. This handy chart will ensure your students are using contractions properly. One they begin to understand how contractions work, they can use the poster as a guide to figure out which letters are missing from more advanced contractions, like 'twas or o'clock.
Specifications for the list of contractions chart:
Dimensions: 17" x 22"
Resource guide on the back
Suggested grades: K to 3rd
Suggested ages: 5 to 8
More than 1 million K-12 students suddenly have to learn from home after the COVID-19 pandemic forced the closure of Arizona's schools. In this Arizona Capitol Times Morning Scoop, we tackled how the transition has been, how schools are adapting, and what resources are available for teachers, parents and pupils. Our panelists are Arizona Superintendent of Public Instruction Kathy Hoffman, Dr. Sheila Harrison-Williams, Executive Director of Arizona School Boards Association, Dr. LeeAnn Aguilar-Lawlor, Superintendent of Cartwright School District, and Dr. Liz Brooke, Chief Learning Officer of Rosetta Stone.
Word variety - one of seven videos in a series on kindergarten prep created by the Anoka-Hennepin School District. Using a variety of words in talking with others is one of the skills that provides a strong foundation for learning and success in kindergarten.
Does your child use complete sentences with four to six words. Communicate needs and feelings appropriately? Try to use new words?

When some teachers think of differentiation, they imagine having to create a different lesson for every student in the room. In this video, teacher and author Larry Ferlazzo explains that differentiating instruction is really about getting to know your students and making decisions, often in the moment, based on what they need. He offers some low-lift strategies he’s learned over the years for making activities accessible for students with all types of gifts and challenges.

How to integrate Social Studies and English Language Arts
Welcome to the Arizona Department of Education’s video on integrating social studies and ELA. In 2018 the Arizona State Board of Education adopted new social studies standards and gave time recommendations for elementary classrooms. With the push for extended ELA and math time this leaves little extra time for social studies. This video will show ways in which you can integrate social studies with ELA to maximize student learning and meet the time recommendations.

How many times have you heard that “learning how to learn” is more important than learning something in particular? Or that skills matter more than knowledge? Or that learning something by heart suppresses student creativity?
Such ideas are commonplace in the United States. Mainstream education in the US has emphasized skills over content for more than a hundred years. Listen to Dr. Ashley Berner, Director of the Johns Hopkins Institute for Education Policy, discuss recent scholarship on why knowledge matters, what some districts and states are doing about it, and findings from research on knowledge-building in American schools.

_________________ABOUT_____________________
Complete K12 essentials Youtube channel and Complete K12 Essentials.com was created to offer parents and teachers an online augmentation or alternative when public schools are not available. The need for standard curriculum that can be delivered via the internet became obvious during the pandemic of 2020. Teachers and school districts were left to create lesson plans and somehow connect with the students with very little time. The challenge was to give each child a method to connect with teachers and class mates to simulate a natural learning environment. Navigating through the material suitable for each grade level is a difficult task at best, so we have created the “SAFE LEARNING PLACE” logo and apply it to all of our videos to show you our dedication to providing good learning material that can be trusted across our whole channel. The curriculum will cover Math, Language Arts, Social Studies, Science, Technology, Music, Art, Health and Fitness, Foreign Languages, Life Skills, Career training, History and Law.
