Dinosaurs for Kids is a fun and comprehensive look at dinosaur history. In this video we highlight the various kinds of dinosaurs, talk about how they receive their names, famous dinosaur fossils, and we talk about the people who find dinosaur fossils: Paleontologists.
We think that one of the most fascinating creatures to ever roam the Earth was the dinosaur. You most likely have heard of dinosaurs, seen pictures of them on TV or the Internet, or may have seen their bones in a museum. Dinosaurs are an interesting group of animals that no longer exist, meaning they are extinct. Dinosaurs evolved, meaning they changed, over millions of years.
In this dinosaur for kids video we also talk about how the dinosaurs’ extinction took place about 66 million years ago and 75% of all life on Earth died. There are many theories or guesses as to what may have happened leading to the extinction. They include worldwide volcanic eruptions, changes in the Earth’s climate, or perhaps a meteorite from space smashing into the Earth.

You've probably heard the story of Little Red Riding Hood, right? What we learn from that book is that wolves have large ears and eyes, big snouts, and sharp teeth. It's true! Wolves are actually the apex predators of their environments. They are also the ancestors of our domesticated dogs. They can be as long as six feet from nose to tail and weigh between 50 and 100 pounds.
These carnivores travel in groups called packs. The pack members are often family members, but lone wolves will join a pack if they don't have one of their own. Packs range from as small as 2 wolves to as many as 25. They eat mostly large or medium hoofed animals, but they occasionally consume birds, rodents, or even fish if they can't find any bigger prey. And the alpha male and female eat before the rest of the pack.
Wolves have an excellent sense of smell. In fact, it is 100 times stronger than a human's sense of smell. They can detect other animals up to a mile away! Just as humans use much of their brain capacity to process images, wolves use a considerable part of their brains to process smell.
While they are apex predators and are at the top of their food chain, they do have to deal with humans, their only predators. They are becoming more and more endangered due to pollution, industrial growth, and natural disasters. Luckily, they were reintroduced into Yellowstone National Park to breed after not living there due to poisoned water and hunting.
We hope you and your student(s) enjoyed learning about this exciting apex predator! If you want to learn even more, head over to our website and download one of our many lesson plans about animals, full of activities, worksheets, and more!

So what's with those small, plastic cards that adults use to buy stuff? In Financial Literacy—Debit and Credit, your students will discover the answer to that question. They will also realize that credit cards and debit cards are different, and each one can be helpful in different ways.
Credit cards and debit cards are both small, hard, plastic cards. But apart from that, they are quite difference. Credit cards, for instance, are not linked to a bank account, but debit cards are. That means you can use debit cards to pay for things with money you already have. Generally speaking, a debit card is directly linked to a checking account. Credit cards use money that is loaned. You can use it to buy something and pay for it later.
Credit card companies issue credit cards, and it's like a type of loan. You can pay back the loan according to the credit company's schedule. You usually have to make a minimum payment each month to reduce your debt. They can also charge interest if it takes you longer to pay the money back or if you don't pay the full amount back every month. However, if you pay your credit card bills in full every month, you won't be charged any interest.
We hope you and your student(s) enjoyed learning about these important skills! If you want even more information, head over to our website and download one of our many free lesson plans, full of activities, worksheets, and more!

What would it be like to work for 16 hours a day, days a week? Nowadays, that is very uncommon in the United States. But during colonial times, that was the way life was for most people. In Colonial Times for Kids, you will learn about the daily life and habits of people who lived during this period of American history.
Let's start by talking about the children and what typical life was like for them. They had the chance to go to school, but they had better access to education if they lived in the city rather than on a farm. Many farm children learned to read and write from their father or church minister. Wealthier families might hire special tutors to teach their kids or send them to schools in England. Boys and girls did not have the same educational opportunities, though. In fact, many girls never learned to read or write.
Unfortunately, this was also a time during which people employed indentured servants, laborers brought over from Britain, or owned slaves. Indentured servants agreed to work for about seven years in return for their passage to America. But slavery grew in the colonies because the indentured servants were not easy to control and more difficult and costly to obtain. Some of the first African American indentured servants were forced into slavery rather than gaining their freedom after the seven-year work period.
Houses of this era were generally small, sometimes containing just a single room. The frames were made of wood, roofs of dried grasses, and floors of dirt. A fireplace inside was used for cooking and producing heat during the winter. Eventually homes on plantations grew larger, adorned with glass windows, wooden or carpeted floors, and quality furniture.
We hope you and your student(s) enjoyed learning about this period in American history! If you want even more information, head over to our website and download one of our many lesson plans, full of activities, worksheets, and more!

Niagara Falls is one of the most famous waterfalls in the world. There are some pretty good reasons that it is such a popular natural landform. Located on the Niagara River, which creates a natural border between the U.S. and Canada, Niagara Falls is actually made of three separate waterfalls. Two are on the U.S. side—Victoria Falls and Bridal Veil Falls. The third and largest one is Horseshoe Falls, which is on the Canadian side.
Niagara Falls is a cataract waterfall, meaning that it is incredibly large and powerful. In fact, a total of 80,000 cubic feet of water flows over the edge every second. That equates to just over 598 thousand gallons of water every single second! This also means that Niagara Falls is an excellent source of hydroelectric power.
Scientists believe the falls started forming around 10 to 12 thousand ago because of melting glaciers. They have changed shape over time due to erosion. The unique green color of Niagara Falls comes from the dissolved salts and rocks in the water that have eroded. Scientists also estimate that over 60 tons of minerals sweep over the falls every minute.
Niagara Falls has attracted many tourists, including dare devils who either went over the edge in a barrel or walked across on a tight rope. The first person to challenge the falls was a 63-year-old teacher named Annie Taylor. She and her cat both got in a barrel and fell over the edge. While they were okay, many others who tried were not so lucky. Jean François Gravelet was the first to walk across on a tight rope, and he did it nine times in one year!

Pilgrims for Kids will give you a brief history of the Pilgrims and the first Thanksgiving.
It all happened about 400 years ago. There was a group of travelers who came to America in search of religious freedom. They wanted to worship God in their own way in England, but they were not permitted. Instead, they boarded ships and went on a journey. These people are referred to as the Pilgrims.
The Pilgrims left Europe for America on September 20, 1620, and
established a colony called Plymouth. A colony is an area set up by a group of people who have usually traveled from the same country. It is a place where they settle to live, work, and raise their families.
Although the Pilgrims were happy to have settled in America, they faced a difficult and cold winter. They were not prepared. They built a large house and some smaller homes, but for a period of time people still slept on the Mayflower. Many of the Pilgrims died during the winter and of the 102 people who came across the Atlantic Ocean only 47 were still alive.
There were Native Americans living in the same area as the Pilgrims. Native Americans are the people who were already living on the land before the Pilgrims arrived in what is now known as America. They established a peace treaty with the Pilgrims. The Native Americans also agreed to trade for animal furs.
Some of the Native Americans also chose to stay with the Pilgrims and taught them how to plant corn, hunt, fish, and how to survive the cold winter.
After the first harvest in 1621, the Pilgrims invited some of the Native Americans to join them for a feast. Sometimes this is referred to as the first Thanksgiving as the tradition continued after every harvest in the years that followed.
