When teaching a student to memorize the multiplication tables it is not as big of a challenge as it seems on the surface. The first reason is that the 1's and 10's are super easy. Any number multiplied by 1 is the number and any number multiplied by 10 you just add a zero to the number.

That is 20% of the table!

The 2's, 3's and 5's can be solved by teaching the student to learn to count by 2's, 3's and 5's. Also using the PLUS 4 and PLUS 4 strategy for learning the multiplication of 3's and 4's is helpful.

When memorizing the multiplication table you will also find some tricks like understanding that when a number is multiplied by 9 the answer adds up to 9. So 4 X 9 = 36 and 3+6 = 9.

The main thing when memorizing the multiplication tables really isn't to memorize them it is to learn the multiplication tables or to understanding the multiplication tables.

Multiply by 3's and learn the 3 multiplication table with an electric guitar beat. Sing along to the 3's times tables in order by singing along with the multiplication fact the first time through. The second time through we delay the answer so students can give the answer and then the answer is reinforced. The third time we supply the 3's times table and leave the answer blank for higher order learning.

When learning how to add and subtract fractions, most people run into problems with unlike fractions. You can’t simply add or subtract unlike fractions. You need to make them into like fractions. There are a few ways to do this but this video show you the fastest way to learn how to subtract fractions and especially how to subtract unlike fractions.

Here is the answer to our example fraction subtraction problem:
