Imagine blasting your favorite song — and only you can hear it. 🎵 No headphones, no speakers, just a “sound bubble” around your head. Scientists have actually made this real! Using special waves, they can aim sound like a laser, so it follows you while everyone else hears silence. It’s the future of music, privacy, and tech — and it’s straight-up sci-fi come true.

Have you ever heard of the golden ratio? It’s an irrational number known as phi, and it got its name from being aesthetically pleasing to the eye. You see, this mathematical ratio can be found in nature, art, architecture, and the human body.

In geometry, the golden ratio is used to create a golden spiral, a pattern naturally occurring in sunflower seed heads, seashells, leaves, and even pinecones. The ratio can even be found in famous artwork like the Mona Lisa and architecture like the Great Pyramid of Giza. We’re not 100% sure the use was intentional, but it is pretty nice to look at.

Today, your favorite artists and brands often use the golden ratio. Like us in this K12 Teaching Moment! Just check out that spiral. How does the golden ratio inspire you? Let us know in the comments.

How can sand, blown by the wind, form such intricate and beautiful patterns as ripples and dunes? The answer is a surprising secret of self-organization. In this video, we travel to Great Sand Dunes National Park in Colorado to climb the largest sand dunes in North America and bring you the science of how wind and sand combine to create ordered landforms out of chaos. The science must flow.

In this episode, we introduce educators to Google Gemini and its powerful, free feature—Gems—which allows teachers to create custom AI assistants tailored to their students’ needs. We walk through how this tool can support lesson planning, differentiation, and personalized learning, all without needing a paid subscription.

We emphasize the value of starting with free tools like Gemini and the importance of consistency in exploring AI in the classroom. Teachers are encouraged to experiment independently and use these tools as professional support, while also seeking administrative approval before incorporating student-specific data.

Additionally, we highlight how Gemini provides clear communication resources for educators to share with administrators, parents, and students about how the tool collects, stores, and uses data. These resources help ensure transparency and support responsible, informed use of AI in education.
