Welcome to a new Happy Learning Video!
We already know that jobs are divided into three sectors. Primary or production sector, Secondary or manufacturing sector and the tertiary or service sector. Today, we’re going to get to know a little more about the first one of them. Today, we’re going to work in the primary sector. Primary sector jobs, are those that obtain primary sources directly from nature. Farming, agriculture, forestry, fishing and mining all belong to (the primary sector) (this sector). Let’s get to know a little more about each of these occupations.Farming consists of breeding livestock, animals!. And a livestock farmer, is the person who does this job.There are two types of farming: intensive and extensive farming. In intensive farming, animals live in farms and stables, with a farmer in charge of feeding and looking after them. In extensive farming, animals live in natural, open air terrains and this is where the farmer goes to take care and protect them. There are four types of livestock: cattle farming, like these cows, sheep farming like these sheep, pig farming, like these pigs or poultry farming, like these hens. Agriculture consists of the cultivation of land, to obtain vegetable products! And a crop farmer is the person who has this occupation. The first thing a crop farmer does, is plough the land by moving it around, then seeds are planted and after the necessary time, the fruits are harvested, which means collected, once they have ripened. There are two types of cropping: dry farming and irrigation farming. Dry farming grows only with rainwater, like wheat or almonds. Irrigation farming is watered artificially because crops need more water than dry farming, like tomatoes or rice. Forestry consists of the cultivation, care, and exploitation of woodland and hills. Thanks to forestry, products such as wood or firewood are collected. But it also helps to investigate on how to protect nature, something completely fundamental for all living things and in order for the whole planet to have a good environmental quality.Fishing consists of the catching of fish and other aquatic animals in rivers, lakes and at sea. Fishing that takes place in rivers is called river fishing and if it’s at sea, we call it sea fishing. Sea fishing has two types: deep sea fishing and shallow sea fishing.Deep sea fishing is done by (great) big boats, far away from the coast, with refrigerated chambers, since they spend a lot of time at sea, they need to freeze their prey so they don’t go bad. Shallow sea fishing is done by smaller boats and come to the coast. They usually leave every day that the weather enables them (fisherman) to. Within fishing and during the last decades, aquaculture has emerged, which consists of the production of algae of aquatic animals in tanks called fish farms… It’s like agriculture and farming, but under water!Mining consists on the collection of mineral resources from the floor and subfloor and the miners are those who perform this job. There is a great variety of minerals. there are metallic minerals like iron or gold, non-metallic minerals like marble or granite, and energetic or combustible minerals like oil, gas or coal coal. These last ones are the most important ones, but also the ones that contaminate the most. Now we’ve got to know the primary sector. Now’s the time to reflect. Imagine there was overexploitation of fishing… and the seas and rivers are left with no fish, in some places, this is already happening… Imagine for a moment, that we cut down all trees in our country and with them, many animals that depend on them. This is also happening in many countries. It’s fundamental that everyone that works in the primary sector respects nature so its primary sources aren’t depleted and their work is sustainable. But we all also need to take care and defend nature, only this way we will achieve a better world.

What are you waiting for? Did you know that a baby had more bones in its body than an adult?

An adult has 206 bones in their body whereas a newly born baby has almost 300. This is because newborn babies are born with some of their bones separated to make it easier for them at childbirth. If we were to touch a baby’s head very carefully, we would feel some softer parts called fontanel, where they are joined by cartilaginous tissues and with the passing of time these bones and tissues become the skull. The truth is, nature is very wise, don’t you think?

And did you know that the breath of newly born babies does not smell?

This is because they don’t have any teeth which is where the bacteria responsible for bad breath called halitosis, is found. So, as you are not a baby, you must clean your teeth very well after each meal so as not to have bad breath. Don’t forget, ok?

Did you know that most babies cry without tears?

The reason for this is a simple one. The tear duct in a baby’s eyes is not totally open at birth and so tears can’t pass through. In some cases these ducts don’t open until the baby turns four months old. Though this happens, we cannot think that when a baby is crying, it’s only pretending. During the first months of a baby´s life, crying is the most practical way of communicating, so when a baby cries, we must go to them or notify an adult so that they can find out what the baby wants. We must take great care of newborn babies, because don’t forget, we were all babies once.

Students learn about the variety of materials used by engineers in the design and construction of modern bridges. They also find out about the material properties important to bridge construction and consider the advantages and disadvantages of steel and concrete as common bridge-building materials to handle compressive and tensile forces.

Engineers make everyone happy: Environmental and electrical engineers design industrial air filters (such as electrostatic precipitators) that remove harmful pollutants from factory air without slowing down the production of the plant. Implementation of this technology has resulted in cleaner emissions into the air we breathe, from power plants, steel mills and other manufacturing and industrial processes and factories. Engineers can do this because they study static electricity and understand what is happening at the very tiny level of electrical charges, which are too small to see.

Students are presented with a challenge question that they must answer with scientific and mathematical reasoning. The challenge question is: "You have a large rock on a boat that is floating in a pond. You throw the rock overboard and it sinks to the bottom of the pond. Does the water level in the pond rise, drop or remain the same?" Students observe Archimedes' principle in action in this model recreation of the challenge question when a toy boat is placed in a container of water and a rock is placed on the floating boat. Students use terminology learned in the classroom as well as critical thinking skills to derive equations needed to answer this question.

They view online animations of cell membrane dynamics (links provided). Then they observe three teacher demonstrations that illustrate diffusion and osmosis concepts, as well as the effect of movement through a semi-permeable membrane using Lugol's solution. Lastly, students use the associated activity to test their understanding of the cell structure and membrane.

Three short, hands-on, in-class demos expand students' understanding of energy. First, using peanuts and heat, students see how the human body uses food to make energy. Then, students create paper snake mobiles to explore how heat energy can cause motion. Finally, students determine the effect that heat energy from the sun (or a lamp) has on temperature by placing pans of water in different locations.

Students collect data from a sugar-level simulation by categorizing different food and drink solutions and measuring their impact on glucose levels. They then use this data to train a machine learning model using the "Machine Learning for Kids" platform. By inputting and organizing their data, students train the model to predict blood sugar responses and classify meals as either healthy or unhealthy. They test their model’s accuracy with new inputs and make adjustments to improve its performance. Through this hands-on process, students gain an understanding of how machine learning works, the importance of high-quality data, and how these technologies can support real-world health applications, such as managing diabetes.

Students create and analyze composite materials with the intent of using the materials to construct a structure with optimal strength and minimal density. The composite materials are made of puffed rice cereal, marshmallows and chocolate chips. Student teams vary the concentrations of the three components to create their composite materials. They determine the material density and test its compressive strength by placing weights on it and measuring how much the material compresses. Students graph stress vs. strain and determine Young's modulus to analyze the strength of their materials.

Mint candies aren’t just a tasty treat; they are useful in learning about engineering concepts! In this activity, students design, build and test model race cars made from simple materials (lifesaver-shaped candies, plastic drinking straws, Popsicle sticks, index cards, tape) as a way to explore independent, dependent and control variables. They measure the changes in distance travelled with the addition of mass to the vehicles. Students also practice the steps of the engineering design process by brainstorming, planning, building, testing, and improving their "mint-mobiles."

Students follow the steps of the engineering design process while learning more about assistive devices and biomedical engineering applied to basic structural engineering concepts. Their engineering challenge is to design, build and test small-scale portable wheelchair ramp prototypes for fictional clients. They identify suitable materials and demonstrate two methods of representing design solutions (scale drawings and simple models or classroom prototypes). Students test the ramp prototypes using a weighted bucket; successful prototypes meet all the student-generated design requirements, including support of a predetermined weight.

Currently, there is a portable water purification device called the LifeSaver bottle that can bring clean water to people; however, it is too expensive for most individuals. In this maker challenge, students work through the engineering design process. They create a water bottle from commonly available materials used in purification tools, that can assist in cleaning dirty water as an inexpensive alternative to the LifeSaver Bottle.

Have you ever heard of the golden ratio? It’s an irrational number known as phi, and it got its name from being aesthetically pleasing to the eye. You see, this mathematical ratio can be found in nature, art, architecture, and the human body.

In geometry, the golden ratio is used to create a golden spiral, a pattern naturally occurring in sunflower seed heads, seashells, leaves, and even pinecones. The ratio can even be found in famous artwork like the Mona Lisa and architecture like the Great Pyramid of Giza. We’re not 100% sure the use was intentional, but it is pretty nice to look at.

Two years ago, a magnet high school for students pursuing careers in education opened in San Antonio.

Here, 10th graders at CAST Teach describe the qualities that make a good teacher, what inspired them to pursue careers in education, and their fears for the future.

Steve Robinson has run a research lab, taught middle and high school, and served as a White House K-12 policy adviser for former President Barack Obama. That circuitous career path has given him a unique perspective on some of the toughest issues in STEM education, including how to find, train, and keep good teachers in those fields.

First lady Jill Biden welcomed the national and state teachers of the year to the White House on Thursday for the first state dinner of its kind.

While traditional state dinners honor visiting heads of state, this one recognized the award-winning teachers—including Missy Testerman, the 2024 National Teacher of the Year and an English-as-a-second-language teacher in Tennessee—for the work they do every day in the classroom. Teachers dressed in ball gowns and tuxes mingled with national leaders, including administration officials and members of Congress.

Parents and schools locked in pitched conflicts—over curriculum, book bans, policies that support LGBTQ students and staff—has been a dominant storyline for two years.

But the reality of school-family dynamics in many districts is not one of constant combat over highly politicized issues. That said, districts and schools often really struggle with fostering meaningful engagment with the families of the students they serve.

There are several ways that school districts can build effective relationships with parents and families. Inviting families to participate in the creation of district policies before a decision is made or providing spaces for parents to build community with each other are a few of the more intensive strategies that districts can implement. Joanna Geller, director of policy, research and evaluation at NYU’s Metropolitan Center, explains that there are also lighter touch techniques that districts can employ, such as providing translation services or simply inviting parents to board meetings can go a long way towards building positive family engagement. Here, she talks about what motivates parents to engage with their districts, and how districts can best support that work.
