Special Moves: Pawn Promotion - Chess for Kids | Kids Academy
Chess is a very diverse game, it’s not just made up of some simple left, right moves, and there are some special moves also. To make it easier for kids to learn how to play chess let me explain one of these special chess moves called the pawn promotion in simple words.
First off what does promotion simply mean? It’s a reward for you doing a good job. For example in school when you do in good your exams and you get good grades you get promoted to the next grade. Similarly in chess when you play a good move you get a reward.
Let’s do this chess example from the video above.
As the name suggests pawn promotion is a reward for the pawn only. The pawn will get this reward if it is able to march throughout the board, through the enemy’s territory and get to the other side of the board. The reward for the pawn in this situation here is that when it reaches to the other side of the board successfully he now has a choice to turn itself to a stronger piece, either a knight, a bishop, a rook or a queen.
The pawn cannot remain a pawn and it cannot turn to the king because there can only be one leader.
Now very rarely you will change into a rook or a bishop, mostly the pawn turns to a queen because the queen is the strongest of all pieces. However, if you change to a bishop, a knight or a rook it is called as under promotion. One thing to be noted here is that even if you already have a queen on your board does that mean that you cannot change your pawn to another queen? No that is not true, you can actually change the pawn to a second queen, and it won’t matter. That is why an additional queen is given with the chess set.
On changing the new queen will be placed at the exact square of where the pawn was. So that’s all you need to know about pawn promotion. Practice it on board and soon you would become the champion of pawn promotions.

Meet our chess lesson for kids: How Queen Moves and Captures | Chess Lessons | Kids Academy
The strongest piece of chess is the queen. She is the strongest soldier in the team. Let’s see how queen moves and captures and find an easy way to learn chess.
How does it move?
A queen can move like a rook as well as a bishop which means that it can move the maximum number of squares on the board. It can move on diagonals, ranks, and files. It can move a total of 27 squares which means it can attack 27 squares in all directions.
If it moves sideways it means that it moved like a rook. If it moves on a diagonal, then it’s a bishop move.
How does it attack?
The queen can have multiple paths to reach to its enemy. It can either use the rook moves or the bishop moves to capture the enemy. It can either move on the ranks and reach to its target or it can move diagonally and capture the target.
These multiple movements make the queen the strongest pieces on the chess board, as much as the king. It is the strongest defender of the king and can save the king from many difficult situations. Since it can take such great leaps on the chess, its attack may come as a surprise to the opponent who did not pay much attention to where the queen was. So, beware of the queen.

Hi, this is Kids Academy and it's our new kids video about an important celebration day. Universal Children’s Day, also known as World Children’s Day, takes place on November 20th. This was the date in 1959 when the UN General Assembly adopted the Declaration of the Rights of the Child. On the same day in 1989, the UN General Assembly adopted the Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Well, if you as a parent are finding it hard to teach your kid about comparing lengths and measurements then don’t worry because today we’ve got you covered completely. Today we are going to tell you some of the best possible solutions to opt for if your kid isn’t understanding measurements, especially comparing lengths in centimeters.
The first thing you can do is that you can buy different measurement tools for kids. These tools, including scales etc, are easily available and you can easily get them at any stationary shop. Just get these tools and try to measure object with these tools so that your child can understand the basic concept.
If the above-mentioned solution won’t work for you then don’t worry because you can always use the visuals. Yes, you read that right and here by the visuals are referring you to online Youtube videos. There are some amazing online Youtube videos for kids that can teach them about comparing length in centimeters and well, we must say that these videos are quite effective because kids always prefer learning through visuals.
Lastly, you can opt for some fun activities to teach your child about measurements. You can play games with them about measuring objects at home, you can use color books and you can even show them practically how it’s done. You can even opt for textbooks that are for teaching math for 2nd grade.

Measuring Length for Kids | Measuring Tools | Math for 2nd Grade | Kids Academy
If you want to teach your child about measuring the length of a house and if you want the learning process to be effective and efficient then yes, you are at the place you should be. You see, teaching children about measurement and educating them on how it’s done can be quite daunting but well, it’s not impossible and on top of everything, you can’t even just ignore this or let it go.
For measuring length, you can use different techniques, like you can play some interesting games in which you both will be measuring an object or a floor in your house. Now, even before this, you should make sure that your little one has clear concepts about centimeter and inches. You can’t just start teaching him how to measure the length of a place or an object until unless he is clear about the inches and centimeter thing.
For this, you can use online videos like the ones on Youtube. There are people out there who give free Youtube lessons about measuring lengths of houses and objects too. So, if you want your child to learn in a quicker and more efficient way then you can make him watch these videos because visuals always work on kids. If not this then you can opt for different fun activities and games and you can even use textbooks for that.
The point to tell you all of this is that if you want to teach your child something, you just need to make sure that the learning process is fun for him/her. You want your little one to pay attention to what you are saying and you want him to be active and that’s only possible if you are ready to invest some time in coming up with some fun activities.

Identify Uppercase Letters | Learn How to Read for Kindergarten| Kids Academy Learn the Alphabet ABC
When your kids start education the first thing that they learn is the alphabets. Then they move on to the identification of uppercase and lowercase letters. This is a very important lesson since it forms the basis of all the upcoming lessons. If the child has a sound understanding of identifying each letter both writing and reading becomes very easy for the kid.
Let me help you make this lesson for your kid a little easier by explaining things in easier words.
In every story that the child reads there are uppercase and lowercase letters. These alphabets join to form words and sentences. All letters have an uppercase letter and a lowercase letter.
We use uppercase letters at the beginning of names. For example, Cinderella. The name of a person always starts with an uppercase letter.
The beginning of a sentence also starts with an uppercase letter. For example:
She is nice.
You can help the kid learn more by doing practice on a workbook and reading with the kid again and again. Each time you will have to tell the kid that which is the uppercase letter, and which is lowercase until the kid starts identifying on its own.
For example
Aa
All the words starting with A will have capital A in the start.
1. Apple
2. Ant
3. Arrow
This learning might take a little more time, but you need to understand the capabilities of the kid and give them the time they require to grasp the concept. Doing it a few more times with kid will help them learn faster. If you know how to read for kindergarten students, only then you can make this lesson easy for the kid.
Make things easier and more interesting for the kids so that they don’t lose interest and learn faster.

Meet our chess lesson for kids: Learn to Play Chess - Chess Notation Names of Squares | Kids Academy
Every square on the chess board has a unique name. A square gets its name by combing its number of rank and its letter of the file. Ranks are the rows and files are the columns in the chess board. So that’s how we have c8, H2, E3 etc. In the beginning, all the pieces are at the starting positions on the board. When you start to play chess, you move to these squares.
These names are very important to understand the chess language because everything in chess is described in the words of these squares. So, if you want to understand chess better and become a master of chess you must understand its language first. This chess lesson for beginners will help you get an initial understanding of the chess language and how you can learn it easily.

When students are learning about communities and community topics in 2nd and third grade, they go past the basic vocabulary they learned in kindergarten and 1st grade. They begin to dig deeper into community concepts, starting to learn how to differentiate between urban, suburban and rural communities. They’ll learn about what makes each of those communities unique—how homes in suburban communities often have amenities and people commuting, for example. Or, how urban areas like cities always seem to have something going on and how they differ from rural areas that are quieter and often spread out. Then the teacher will help them move outside of their home and neighborhood and into the world at large. They’ll delve into the concepts of social community, which is a group of people that they enjoy spending time with. Especially important with neighborhood for grade 2 concepts, children will learn how their local schools and parks and other common places are part both part of their neighborhoods and possibly their social communities.
At this age, children learn how to fit the small pieces of community into a larger, more global view. With the engaging pictures, they’ll see how home and school fit together into neighborhoods and communities that belong in their specific states. The clear and concise wording walks kids through their belonging to their state, country and continental communities as a citizen who belongs to many different communities, and teaches them vocabulary words like country and continent.
As citizens of the earth, the final worksheet reviewed in this communities compilation talks about recycling for kids, and how each citizen can make a difference in taking care of their communities. They’ll learn about what things can and can’t be recycled, as well as what happens to an item as it takes its trip to the recycling plant. They’ll even get to help their video friends sort items for recycling and watch them be transported away in an effort to keep their neighborhood community and their larger, global community and world in great shape.

Meet our chess lesson for kids: Learn to Play Chess - King and Queen - Chess Lessons | Kids Academy
The king and queen are the strongest and the most important pieces of a chess board. The king is the most important piece, he has + signs on his head. The king must be kept safe in order to win the game and whoever captures the opponent’s king first wins the game. The king can only move one square per turn.
The queen is the fastest piece of chess. She can move both as a rook and as a bishop which means that it can move on diagonals, files, and ranks.
This makes it the fastest and strongest pieces of the board. The queen is the second tallest piece on the board and she also wears a crown just like a real queen. In chess notation and for chess lessons it is donated with the “crown” symbol.
The queen did not always have this power it has today. At first, it could only move one step at a time, later it could move two steps in one turn. In the end, after all, it got all the powers that it has today.
The king and queen are both the strongest pieces of the chess board. You need to keep your king safe and capture the opponent’s king. Your queen can help you both protect the king and attack the opponent’s king.

"Itsy Bitsy Spider" (also known as "Incy Wincy Spider") and several other similar-sounding names) is a popular nursery rhyme and fingerplay that describes the adventures of a spider as it ascends, descends, and reascends the downspout or "waterspout" of a gutter system. It is usually accompanied by a sequence of gestures that mimic the words of the song.
LYRICS:
The itsy bitsy spider climbed up the waterspout.
Down came the rain
and washed the spider out.
Out came the sun
and dried up all the rain
and the itsy bitsy spider climbed up the spout again.
x4
FINGERPLAY:
Alternately touch the thumb of one hand to the index finger of the other.
Hold both hands up and wiggle the fingers as the hands are lowered.
Sweep the hands from side to side.
Raise both hands and sweep to the sides to form a semicircle as the sun.
Wiggle fingers upwards.
(as in the first line)

If you think it’s high time to teach your child about different colors then make sure to start with the basics ones that are blue, black, green, yellow, white. Yes, you read that right, you see, your child’s brain is too small at the moment and he can memorize limited things so don’t try to stuff his brain and start slow!
Today in this article we are going to talk about the yellow color and how you can tell your kid about this color. You see, you can’t just tell your little one about colors via text, in fact, you need to show them again and again what yellow color looks like and how is it different from the other colors. Now, in this case, you can do so much to teach your little one that you have no idea.
For starters, colors are all about visuals so make your child watch some good Youtube videos about the color yellow and we assure you that this technique will really be effective for them. These videos can do wonders to your child’s brain and they surely work so don’t forget to try this technique.
Other than this, there’s so much more you can do to tell your child about the yellow color. Force and Motion for Kids | Ramps | Kids Academy
When you are building the basics of science in your kid’s mind, you must be very clear and very easy to understand. Science basics start from force and motion. Both the two words are interconnected to each other. We will keep things simple and easy for kids.
Motion is when something changes its position and moves from one place to another. However, this motion is not caused by itself, some external energy is required for motion. This energy is called force. Force can be either push or pull. Push is when we move the object away from ourselves and pull is when we move the object towards us.
An object will not move or change its position unless or until an external force is applied to it.
So, this was all the theory. To further clear out the concept do some simple yet fun activities at home or school, to make this concept more interesting for kids because there are high chances that kids might find it boring and tiring.
Use some fun toys to explain the concept of pushing and pulling. This would make the kid more interested in the topic and then he would explore things on his own.

Suffixes ful, less, ly, able | English Grammar for Children | Grade 2 | Kids Academy
The English language is very interesting, if you look at the words closely you will see some repetitive combination of alphabets ending the words. These letters that end a word are called ‘suffixes. These suffixes change the meaning of words and can create new words. In this video we talk about 4 suffixes:
-ful
-less
-ly
-able
-ful
When we add suffix -ful to a word it changes its meaning to ‘full of’. For example:
• Colorful
• Grateful
-less
When we add -less to a word it means ‘without’, which means that something is without the word that’s in the start of this word. For example:
• Homeless
• Helpless
-ly
The suffix -ly can be used to answer two questions, how often and how. For example:
1. How did she act? Answer: Badly
2. How often does she dance? Answer: Weekly
-able
-able simply means ‘can’. That something can be done. For example:
• Respectable
• Comfortable
So now you know the suffixes. Find words in a storybook ending with these suffixes, just as a practice exercise. These are very important to learn about good English grammar for children.

Sound mainly comes from different sources. And what are sources? Well, the source is anything where the sound comes from.

This means the fridge is using energy to produce the sound. Amazing, right? A fun fact which majority of the kids don’t know is that; light travels faster than sound. Thanksgiving Story for Kids - The First Thanksgiving
It's Kids Academy, and today we are gonna talk about Thanksgiving Day! It is a holiday celebrated in America on the fourth Thursday of every November. Children know Thanksgiving as a day that they are off school and eat turkey. Ask your students and children if they know the story of how Thanksgiving began. Further, ask your students or children what it means to be thankful and list things for which they are thankful. This video explains the history of Thanksgiving in a way that is easy to understand and it is perfect for young learners.
The video opens with a description of what most children understand about Thanksgiving. The video mentions parades, a big meal and time spent with family on Thanksgiving. Then the video details the story of the Pilgrims and their voyage to the New World. After their arrival, the winter was cold and long. When it was spring the Pilgrims needed to plant food to survive. The Native Americans helped the Pilgrims plant food such as corn. At the end of the summer there was a great harvest. The Pilgrims celebrated and invited the Native Americans to a big feast. This was the first Thanksgiving.
The video points out that the Pilgrims were very thankful for their food and the help they received from their Native American friends. Now on Thanksgiving each year we express our thankfulness as well for food, family and shelter.
Thanksgiving for kids is a fun day to spend eating good food, watching a parade, and spending time with family. But it is much more than that. Thanksgiving Day is a time to reflect upon the many good things that we have and be thankful. This Thanksgiving 2019, use this fun and educational video to learn the history of Thanksgiving in your home class or school classroom.
