What is a fact? What is an opinion? And what is the difference between the two? In Fact and Opinion for Kids, you and your student(s) will learn how to tell the difference between a statement of fact and one that is simply a person's opinion.

This video starts out with a great example that demonstrates opinions. Andrew loves pizza, his mom loves ice cream, and his dad loves apples. None of these foods are the best food in the world to everyone, so each person's favorite food choice is their opinion. Facts are statements that can be proven. The sun is yellow. The sky is blue. These are facts that people can prove quite easily. Summer is the best time of year. Soccer is the most fun sport to play. These statements cannot be proven. They are opinions because people prefer different things. Some people may believe summer to be the best time of year. Others, though, might prefer autumn or winter weather even more.

Some opinions can be supported by facts. While they are still opinions, they can be considered widely accepted because of the facts that support them. There are two reasons to know the difference between facts and opinions. One reason is that listening to others' opinions help you better understand them and know them better. The other reason is that knowing the facts about something helps you make important decisions.

Did you know that plants require a lot of the same things you do to grow and survive? In How Plants Grow for Kids, you will learn about four of the main things plants need to grow. These "core four" elements are soil, sunlight, air, and water. What do each of these things do for plants? Let's find out!

Plants will find most of the nutrients they need in the soil. These nutrients include nitrogen, phosphorous, and potassium. Nitrogen is what causes the leaves of plants to be green. Phosphorous contributes to the overall health and strength of the plant and its root system. Potassium helps the plant fight off diseases. Soil also supports the plant and helps prevent it from falling over.

The next element is sunlight. The sun produces energy through the light that plants can use to make food. The leaves are the part of the plant that makes this process, photosynthesis, happen. Without this process, plants would not be able to survive. However, too much or too little sunlight can be harmful. Another important element is air. From the air, plants receive carbon dioxide, a component that, like sunlight, contributes to the process of photosynthesis. Carbon dioxide also allows plants to use the sun's energy to make its food and grow.

Finally, plants need water. Water is necessary for the plant to grow healthy and strong. The water a plant receives helps guide nutrients to the plant through its roots, stem, and leaves. It is possible for plants to receive too much water. Too much sunlight harms plants, and overwatering them can yield the same results. A couple other things plants need are temperature and space. Adequate temperatures ensure plants don't die out because of extreme hot or cold. And plants need enough room to grow into their full size. Overcrowding can cause disease or restrict plants from receiving enough air.

What are Cardinal Directions? In this video built as an introduction to kids we will learn all about the 4 Cardinal Directions which are: North, South, East, West. Each time you go somewhere, you travel or move in a direction, which is the course or path you move in. You might walk down the street and then turn right or left, later turn around and return home. You are moving in different directions throughout the day. In the same way, cars, airplanes, buses, trains, and other vehicles move in different directions too. However, instead of turning to the right or left, or traveling up or down the
street, there are special words used to name the directions a vehicle or person can travel.

There are four main directions or points called cardinal directions (sometimes cardinal points). The four points include north (N), east (E), south (S), and west (W). The direction words are found on maps, compasses, street signs, and in many other places. The cardinal directions help people travel from place to place. In this video you'll learn it all and even have a chance to practice what you learn at the end.

Which beverage would you rather drink: milk, soda, water, or orange juice? Each one of these liquids tastes very different. Why? Because they all have different levels of chemicals called acids and bases. In this video for kids, you will learn why liquids, and even the foods you eat, taste a certain way.

Acids tend to be on the sour side. In fact, the more acidic something is, the more sour it will taste. Bases, on the other hand, taste bitter. The more basic (or alkaline) a substance, the more bitter it will be. Lemon juice is a great example of a very acidic liquid. Almond milk is a great example of a basic liquid.

When something is acidic, the molecules split apart and release hydrogen ions. Molecules of basic substances split apart and release hydroxide ions and reduce the number of hydrogen ions. A higher number of hydrogen ions yields a more acidic solution while a higher number of hydroxide ions yields a more basic or alkaline solution.

Examples of acids and bases are everywhere. Apart from the liquids we drink, acids are also found in car batteries, and bases are often found in household cleaning products. In addition, our bodies contain both acids and bases. The stomach has hydrochloric acid to help digest food and kill bad bacteria. The pancreas contains a base that helps with digestion as well.

You will also learn about the pH scale and about indicators. The pH scale measures the level of acidity or base, or number of hydrogen ions, in a specific substance. The scale goes from 0 to 14, with numbers between 0–7 indicating acids and between 7–14 indicating bases. Litmus paper is one of the most common indicators. When put in a solution, it will turn red to indicate an acid or blue to indicate a base.

In our video Thanksgiving for Kids, you will learn about the history of our very first "Thanksgiving" and how the holiday as we know it today became official.

The story of the first Thanksgiving is quite different from the holiday we celebrate today. When you hear the word Thanksgiving the first thing you may think about is turkey, or maybe the Fall or football, or perhaps you look forward to a couple of days off from school. In the 1600s, the first Thanksgiving had nothing to do with turkey, football, or school. It did take place during the Fall, and there was a feast shared by many people.

Thanksgiving is an annual celebration and a national holiday which commemorates a harvest festival celebrated by the Pilgrims in 1621. In the United States, it is held on the fourth Thursday in November. It is often remembered by religious observances
and a traditional meal, which today includes turkey. The present Thanksgiving holiday did not become official until 1863.

Before that time, three different presidents beginning with Washington tried to make it a national holiday, but it was limited to state observances and celebrations. However, many people believed that Thanksgiving should become a national holiday. Sarah Josepha Hale, an editor of a popular women’s magazine campaigned to make it a national holiday again. Finally, in 1863 President Abraham Lincoln declared Thanksgiving as a holiday to give thanks for “general blessings”.

Since that time America has celebrated Thanksgiving every year with a traditional meal, often with family and friends, and giving thanks for their blessings.

ASL All about North America for Kids

How many countries make up North America? A lot of people think of Canada, the USA, and Mexico. In All about North America for Kids, you and your students will learn that this continent actually includes 23 countries! These include Costa Rica, Honduras, Panama, Grenada, Saint Vincent, Cuba, and Haiti.

North America is the third largest continent in the world, behind Asia and Africa, and covers 16.5% of the earth's land area. It was named after the Italian explorer Amerigo Vespucci. The continent borders the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans, the Caribbean Sea, and South America. It also includes all the major biomes or habitats, such as tundra, coral reef, and desert. The geography of the countries of North American vary as much as its wildlife. There are around 965 different mammal species that call different parts of the continent home.

You will also learn a lot about the history of the continent. Scientists believe the Paleo-Indians from Eurasia used a land bridge between modern-day Siberia and Alaska to travel to North America to settle. They developed organized societies, and some ancient civilizations even built temples and created writing systems and calendars. Eventually colonizers from Europe traveled to the continent, which often displaced the native peoples of North America and settling on their lands.

There is so much more to learn about this continent. The video includes information on famous landmarks, such as Niagara Falls and the Great Pyramid of Tenochtitlan. These are only a few of the many attractions that millions of people visit every year.

What is water pollution? Did you know there are different kinds of pollution? In this video, you and your kids will learn all about the ways that water is harmed and contaminated. You will also learn how we can help make water cleaner and safer for the wildlife that live there. Even though we, ourselves, need clean water for drinking and other uses, aquatic animals that live in oceans and lakes need clean water as well to survive.

Would you rather swim in a lake that is clear and blue or one that is filled with plastic bottles and bags, waste, and chemicals? Naturally, you would want to swim in a clean lake. Well, so do fish and other animals in the sea. Water pollution is caused by many different factors, but the primary one is humans. For many, many years, we have been throwing our "trash" in the ocean. Sometimes our trash is made up of actual garbage, such as plastic water bottles and grocery bags, soda can holders, and straws. Other times, it's made up of sewage and waste, chemicals, and oils.

What can you do to help the water pollution problem? First of all, you can share some of the facts you learn in this video with your friends and family. For instance, did you know that over one billion people do not have access to clean water? That is 13% of the world's population! You can also follow the three R's: reduce, reuse, and recycle. Reduce your water usage, reuse items whenever possible, and recycle any items that you can.

Dolphins are among the most unique mammals. In Dolphins for Kids, you will learn all about these beautiful creatures. Despite the fact that they look like really big fish, they are not! They breathe air, give live birth to their young, nurse their babies with milk, have hair at some point, and are warm-blooded.

Did you know that dolphins are actually part of the larger group of animals called whales? (And did you know the killer whale is a species of dolphin?) Dolphins come in different colors, like black, white, or grey. Their skin is smooth and rubbery, like a bar of slippery soap. They have a flipper on either side of their body and a triangular-shaped fin on their backs. Dolphins look a lot like porpoises, so people often confuse the two.

Generally, dolphins live in groups called pods that usually range from 2 to 30 dolphins. During mating season, they form superpods that can have hundreds of dolphins! How do they keep track of each other? Well, one really interesting fact about dolphins is that they have names. Each dolphin is given a unique whistle right after their birth. They learn their whistle from their mother.

Part of becoming financially literate is understanding how to calculate interest. In this video, your kids or students will learn what exactly interest is and how they can calculate it. Interest is an amount of money that you either pay or earn. Whether you pay or earn depends on the situation. If you borrow money, you have to pay interest. If you save money at a bank, you will earn interest.

There are a few terms you should be familiar with. The principal is the amount of money you start with that you are borrowing or spending. Another term to know is rate. The rate is the percentage you are charged (if borrowing money from a bank/company) or paid (if saving money in a bank). You will be able to use the rate and principal to determine the interest using an equation: Interest = Principal x Rate x Time (years).

The video goes through a helpful example scenario to walk you through calculating interest when saving money at a bank. In this case, Frankie Finance is starting with $200. The rate will be 0.15. Based on the equation, Frankie will earn $30 dollars per year in interest. Next, you can follow another scenario in which Frankie borrows money and owes $30 extra a year! The equation is the same regardless of whether or not you're borrowing or saving.

What exactly are vitamins and minerals? Many people think these two substances are the same, but they are not. But they are both important to keep our bodies strong and healthy. Vitamins are organic substances, meaning that plants and animals produce them. Minerals are inorganic and come from the soil and water. Then they are absorbed by plants or eaten by animals.

Vitamins are divided into two categories—fat soluble or water soluble. Which category a vitamin falls into depends on whether it dissolves best in fats or in water. The fat-soluble vitamins can be stored in the body, but the water-soluble vitamins need to dissolve in water before the body can absorb them. In addition, the body can’t store water-soluble vitamins. For this reason, we need a fresh supply of water-soluble vitamins each day.

When it comes to minerals, our bodies cannot break down or change them. Minerals can, however, form part of the structure of bones, teeth, nails, muscles, and red blood cells. There are several minerals the body needs. Calcium is one of the most common minerals. Our bodies need calcium to build and protect bones and teeth, support our muscles, and help with blood clots and nerves.

In this video, your kids will learn all about nouns. So, what is a noun? A noun is a person, place, or thing. Throughout this video your student will be given lots of examples. They will be able to practice identifying nouns in a fun way.

The video describes each of the three groups of nouns one by one in detail. First, we will talk about nouns for people. Because people have titles, like doctor and baker, those are considered people nouns too! Then we discuss nouns for places. These can be cities like Atlanta or Paris, or they can be buildings like school or hospital. Last, we talk about nouns that describe things. Everything else that isn't a person or place falls into the things category. Things include dog, computer, water, window, and so many more. There are millions of nouns because there are millions of people, places, and things!

Did you know that 70% of the earth is covered by water? Water is everywhere! You and your kids or students will learn all sorts of interesting things about water in this video.. Water is a major necessity to life. Without water, life on Earth wouldn't even exist! And that includes all life—not just humankind.

This video describes what water is made of: hydrogen and oxygen. It also talks about how water can be found in the form of a solid, liquid, or gas. As a solid, it's called ice. That happens when water freezes. In fact, snowflakes are simply really, really small ice crystals, but they are still water! When water gets hot, it turns into a gas. This is called water vapor or steam.

Water can be found almost anywhere. Most of it is in liquid form and is found in the oceans all over the world. But don't forget about polar ice caps and glaciers, lakes and rivers, and ground water from rain that has seeped into the earth. There are two types of water: salt water and fresh water. Most of the water on Earth is salt water. Humans can only drink fresh water, however, because drinking salt water would make us sick. This video explains that if you compared all the water on the earth to a gallon of water, only a teaspoon of it would equal the amount of fresh water on the earth!
