In this video an AI Warehouse agent named Albert learns how to walk up and down stairs and get through other obstacles to escape. The AI was trained using Deep Reinforcement Learning, a method of Machine Learning which involves rewarding the agent for doing something correctly, and punishing it for doing anything incorrectly. Albert's actions are controlled by a Neural Network that's updated after each attempt in order to try to give Albert more rewards and less punishments over time. Students learn a simple technique for quantifying the amount of photosynthesis that occurs in a given period of time, using a common water plant (Elodea). They use this technique to compare the amounts of photosynthesis that occur under conditions of low and high light levels. Before they begin the experiment, however, students must come up with a well-worded hypothesis to be tested. After running the experiment, students pool their data to get a large sample size, determine the measures of central tendency of the class data, and then graph and interpret the results.

As educators prepare for a new school year, state teachers of the year share helpful insights they’ve learned from their experiences with building and managing parent and family relationships.

Thousands of teachers protested Monday in Oklahoma and Kentucky, demanding higher wages and more resources for students. So far this year, teachers in four states have walked out of classrooms or threatened to walk out to press for higher pay and more school spending. Education Week editor Liana Loewus talked with PBS NewsHour’s John Yang about what’s happening around the country.
