The Squad help a sleepy monster follow a recipe for making a compost ‘bed’ by learning that 'sum' indicates the total of two or more objects added together.

Got a problem with a pesky Picky Eater Monster who only wants to eat three round red things at precisely seven o’clock on Thursdays? Have no fear (well, maybe a little…) the Monster Math Squad is here! The Monster Math Squad love to use their monster math skills to help their fellow monsters in trouble. Monstrovia is an alpine village with a twist: There are monster houses, abominable fridge monsters, monster doormats, TV monsters and vacuum cleaner monsters – in fact it’s just one great big monster world! Monstrovia is a monstrously mixed-up place with uniquely monstrous problems. The laws of physics, math, common sense and personal hygiene don’t matter much to monsters. Try crossing the street with Backs Up Everywhere Monster Truck on the loose, not to mention the fact that the traffic light can’t count how long red should be on for. Monstrovia needs some serious sorting out. These monster-sized challenges require monster-sized solutions that only the math-loving Monster Math Squad can provide. Monster Math Squad stars MAX, LILY and GOO. While they may not be the biggest, or bravest (or even the brainiest) monsters on the block, the Squad love nothing better than to put their monster minds together and use their math skills to overcome any obstacle they face… even ones with two left feet or ten thumbs. Each story features a job for the Squad, helping a monster with a unique problem. Along the way they face a variety of small challenges that require learning and using numeracy skills en route to and saving the day. The Monster Math Squad are quite simply mad for math and all things “mathy”… counting, measuring, sizing, sorting, exploring shapes, patterns, time… you name it, it’s all math to these monsters. For the Monster Math Squad, math can solve any problem. The series’ mission is to promote the love of numeracy, the idea that math is everywhere, and math is fun!

Students develop their understanding of air convection currents and temperature inversions by constructing and observing simple models. Engineers study temperature inversions and convection currents to understand why pollution levels may be higher in some areas than in others. They use this information to reduce pollution levels and determine new pollution prevention programs. They also study convection currents inside buildings to help improve indoor air quality that may be poor due to smoking or fumes from cleaning supplies. Convection currents help to circulate these pollutants, sending them outside of the building.

Using spaghetti and marshmallows, students experiment with different structures to determine which ones are able to handle the greatest amount of load. Their experiments help them to further understand the effects that compression and tension forces have with respect to the strength of structures. Spaghetti cannot hold much tension or compression; therefore, it breaks very easily. Marshmallows handle compression well, but do not hold up to tension.
