Do you know why the heart is so important? In The Human Heart for Kids video, you will learn that the heart, apart from pumping blood, also carries lots of other important things throughout the body. The heart is an organ made up mostly of muscle, and it plays a vital role in keeping you and your body healthy and strong.

The human heart is one the most important organs of the body that is essential for survival. It is part of the circulatory system, which is the body system that carries blood and other substances to and from the heart. The other main parts of the circulatory system are blood vessels, which include veins, arteries, and capillaries. And the heart beats automatically because it's controlled by the autonomic nervous system. In 24 hours, your heart averages about 115,000 beats per day!

So how does the heart work exactly? Well, the heart consists of left and right ventricles at the bottom and left and right atriums at the top. Blood pushes through the atriums into the ventricles on each side of the heart through little "gates" every time the heart beats. These gates basically help ensure the blood flows in the right direction. The blood travels through the different vessels throughout the rest of the body. You can think of blood vessels as little train tracks that carry blood to different parts of the body. The trip for a single drop of blood throughout the body takes only about a minute.

Blood carries oxygen, food, minerals, and vitamins as well, and all these things help your body move, grow, and make repairs. In fact, they even help you think! The stuff in your blood that the body doesn't need gets set out as waste through the lungs, kidneys, and liver. To keep your heart healthy, there are a few things you can do. Exercising will help strengthen the muscles of your heart. Eating fruits and vegetables also helps keep your arteries clear. Drinking plenty of water is also essential because water makes up about 83% of the heart. If you don't have enough water, your heart can become less and less healthy. Finally, remember to move around. Moving around helps both your body and your mind.

Financial Literacy—Borrowing vs. Saving focuses on the pros and cons to each choice to help kids decide what they would do if they wanted to buy something.

Saving money is something we do so that we can eventually buy something we want, like a new bike. This can take time. If you want something more immediately, you can borrow money. Borrowing money, however, means that you have to pay back the money you borrowed over time. And sometimes you have to pay interest. You can get a loan from someone, like a parent, and pay it back over time.

Algae is all around us and has many important uses. But what exactly is Algae and what are the different types of algae? We will learn about this and more in this video all about algae for kids! Algae (alga is the singular spelling) are a type of plant-like living things
that make their food just like all other plants, from sunlight by photosynthesis.

Algae are commonly found living in the sea, oceans,
rivers, lakes, ponds, or even in aquariums. There
are two different types of algae: macroalgae and
microalgae. Macroalgae are something you are very
familiar with-- seaweed. Microalgae are referred to as phytoplankton. Micro- means very small, so think of them as small plants that
live in the ocean, rivers, ponds, or lakes.

How much do you know about this famous historical figure from U.S. history? In this video, you will learn about his life growing up and his achievements as a politician and inventor. For instance, did you know he was the 15th of 17 children? And he stopped going to school at 10 years old. He spent the rest of his life learning on his own.

Something many people know about him is that he used to write letters about current events that he submitted to a newspaper that his brother owned. He used a pseudonym, or fake name—Mrs. Silence Dogood. Eventually, he ran his own newspaper called the Pennsylvania Gazette. This became one of the most successful newspaper in the 13 colonies!

Benjamin Franklin was the only American to sign all four of the major documents involved in the founding of the United States! These are the Declaration of Independence, a Treaty of Alliance with France, the Treaty of Paris, and the Constitution. He became an ambassador and diplomat to France, and he convinced the French to help America in their quest for independence from Great Britain.

Surely you know about Franklin's electricity experiment involving a kite, a key, and a lightning storm. Did you know he used two specific types of string in order for his experiment to work? One string needed to produce an electric charge while the other would remain dry and not produce an electric charge. Keep watching to find out more interesting facts about Benjamin Franklin.

We all know the ocean is huge. But what else do we know? Ocean Facts for Kids offers just a few more interesting facts that you and your kids might not already know. For instance, almost 98% of all the water on the earth is in the ocean. The average depth is 2.3 miles deep. And that's just the average! One of the deepest parts is at the Mariana Trench, which is 36,198 feet deep—almost seven miles!

Do you know why there are waves? The most common type of wave is a surface wave. These are the ones we commonly see with the white tips that crash into the shore. These waves are caused by wind blowing across the surface of the ocean. Other waves occur because of gravity. These waves are called tides, which are affected by the moon's location in relation to the earth. And waves can even happen because of underwater explosions from volcanoes beneath the surface of the ocean. These explosions cause tsunamis!

Large parts of the ocean remain a mystery. Marine biologists estimate that there are between 700,000 and 1 million species that live in this ginormous pool. They also think that two-thirds of those species haven't even been discovered yet! That estimate doesn't include the millions of microorganisms living in the ocean.

Have you ever wondered where the olympics began? In Ancient Greece, you and your kids will learn the answer to this question. In fact, you will learn a lot about this amazing ancient civilization and its lasting impact on the world today.

Even today, modern society continues to see influences of Ancient Greece. Most capitol buildings, as well as the U.S. capitol and the Supreme Court Building, are modeled after the architecture of Ancient Greece. The area was made up of independent city-states like Sparta, Athens, and Thebes; it was not one big country. And as far as the Olympics are concerned, which we still participate in today, they started in 776 B.C. in Ancient Greece!

Have you ever heard of or do you remember the Pythagorean theorem? This geometrical equation come from Pythagoras, who was an ancient Greek scientist. The famous philosophers Socrates and Aristotle lived during the Classical period of Ancient Greece. Alexander the Great was also born near the end of the Classical period. He died during the Hellenistic period, and his death marked the beginning of the end for the ancient civilization.

In Ancient Greece, boys received a formal education, but girls were taught homemaking skills like cooking and sewing. Most Greek men were farmers, but other occupations were soldiers, craftsmen, or government workers. As far as the diet goes, it is similar to what we call the Mediterranean diet. It consisted of olives, cheeses, fruits and vegetables, and fish.

In a random number, can you figure out what the place value of any digit in that number is? In this video, you and your kids will learn about place value and how to determine the place value of any digit.

Naming place values is quite easy once you recognize the patterns. And this video will help you figure out what those patterns are! It describes using a place value chart to keep track of where numbers fall. A chart can have many place value columns. We will focus on the ones, tens, and hundreds in this video. You will learn that when it comes to whole numbers, you will always place the last digit in the ones column. That is the column furthest to the right.

The video goes through several examples of figuring out place value of the digits in numbers. For instance, in the number 786, you can use that rule of placing the final digit in the ones column to figure out the place value of the other numbers. If 6 is in the ones place, then 8 is in the tens place, and 7 is in the hundreds place. It really is that easy!
