What Is a Noun?

A noun is a word that names a person, place, thing, or idea. Concrete nouns name people, places, or things that you can touch, see, hear, smell, or taste. Abstract nouns name ideas, concepts, or emotions. These nouns are intangible, which means you cannot touch, see, hear, smell, or taste them using your five senses.

Educational video for children that talks about spelling rules, specifically, adding the endings s, es or ies to make plural nouns. A plural noun is a word that names more than one person, place, thing, animal or idea. When we write plural nouns, we always have to look at the end of the word. Normally, we add an s to make a plural noun. But, if a word ends in a ""hissing"" sound, we add -es and if it ends with a Y, we add -ies or sometimes just an s. Spelling rules are essential to write correctly. This is the fourth in our series of videos on spelling and grammar. It stars Superlexia, the guardian of spelling and grammar, whose goal is to defeat spelling and grammar mistakes with the power of clear and impactful expression.
