Saving Earth's Resources | How to Conserve Natural Resources: Water, Air, and Land

You see, conservation of natural resources should be more of a part of ethics. 13 American Colonies | US History | Kids Academy
A colony is a place where people from other countries have settled outside their home country and this place is governed by their home country. By the mid-1700s England had set up 13 colonies along the East Coast of America.
There were three groups of colonies of the US-based on the way people lived in these colonies.
Northeast
Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts were the colonies in the northeast. Here people came from England mostly for religious freedom. However, living conditions here were tough. The soil was rocky, and the climate was cold hence cultivation was not an option for them. So, they switched to seafood and become sailors. Their ships were made from lumber in the area.
Middle colonies
New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware were the home to Germans, Irish and Dutch. The weather conditions were better here and many crops such as wheat were grown here.
Southern colonies
Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, made up the southern colonies. The climate here was much warmer and had really good soil which helped them to grow all sorts of crops. Their economy was based on agriculture.
One thing common in all these colonies was the slavery of black men. They suffered harsh living conditions and extreme slavery in all the colonies. Eventually, these 13 American colonies became 13 states and now exist as individual states in America.

Counting for Kids Up To 120 Starting At Any Number | Math | 1st Grade | Kids Academy
Counting is a major part of kids learning. It starts with smaller numbers like 1 to 10 and then moves to bigger numbers. The begging might be easy however things get a little trickier when you approach the higher numbers especially after 100.
The kid might get confused about the concept and may end up not understand it. However, if it is explained easily and in simple words, the kid can get a very strong grip on the concept.
So, let me explain how can learn to count for kids.
When we count past 100 to 120 we can use the same pattern that we used when we were counting from 0 to 20. You can start counting from any number in between as long as you remember the pattern from 0 to 20. For example, let's count from 7 to 20. It goes like:
7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19 ,20.
Similarly, when you need to count from 107 to 120 you can follow the same pattern. All you need to do is to add a hundred before each number. It would be like:
107, 108,109,110,111,112,113,114,115,116,117,118,119,120.
The numbers would be read as one hundred and seven, one hundred and eight, one hundred and nine and similarly to up to one hundred and twenty.
We followed the same pattern in both the countings. So, all you need to do is to add one hundred before each number and you can start counting from any number within 100 to 120. So that’s it and you have learned to count for kids up to 120.
So that’s it that is just a very way to explain to your kid the concept and help them learn bigger counting numbers very easily.

US Local Government Departments | Water, Fire, Police, Sanitation Recreation & Transportation
If your kid is at that stage of his life when he should start learning about the government, what it does and what do the sectors in the government do then it is an undeniable fact that you first need to teach them about the different departments of the local government of the US.
For starters, the local government is divided into sectors and each sector is assigned a particular duty. For example, when we talk about the state and city governments, they are divided into different departments like the department of water, the department of fire, police, sanitation, recreation, and transportation.
Long story short, these departments take care of the basis on which a state or country runs.
Water Department: The water department is responsible for providing safe and clean water to drink, make food and bathe. Not only this, in fact, this department is also responsible to provide resources of water for emergency purposes like when there’s a fire somewhere.
Fire Department: The fire department is of course there to save people from fires and the destruction caused by it. For example, if a building is on fire, this department will be on alert.
Police: For controlling crime in a state and punishing thieves and looters etc, the police department is there to make sure that people are following the law.
Sanitation: This department is responsible for providing a healthy atmosphere for people. Keeping the roads clean, getting rid of all the debris and making sure that there’s little to no pollution around falls in their department.
Recreation Department: They take care of entertainment places like parks, beaches, and playgrounds, etc.
Transportation Department: They are the ones who look after the transportation systems of a state.

It is a basic lesson for kindergarten homeschool or first-grade social studies to learn about neighbor social studies once they start learning about a community. Neighbor social studies are the second basic thing after a classroom community that social studies for kindergarten homeschool should be taught.
First, relate the lesson of community with the neighborhood. Tell the students that their neighborhood is the community in which they live and where they can make a difference as an individual. Here are a few steps to teach neighbor social studies to kindergarten.
Step 1: Make a list of shared items in a community
• On a large newsprint write down the names of places that are shared by all the people in a neighborhood such as; parks, libraries, banks etc.
• Ask the kids whom they would call from the community to help them in certain situations.
Such as; whom would you call if you got sick? Whom would you call if something caught fire? Etc.
Step 2: Introduce Individuals from different Departments
• Request community speakers from different departments to visit and inform the kids about their duties, the tools that they use and what kind of work they perform for the community.
• Snap a picture of each speaker. After they leave to show the picture to the kids and ask them what facts they remember about them. Write the fact under the picture and display them on the first-grade social studies activity community board of the class.
Step 3: Who needs to help in a community?
• Let them brainstorm and then remind the kids that everyone is a helper in a neighborhood community.
• Now involve the students in making a list of all the jobs that need to be done in their classroom community to make it a model community.
• Ask the students to cut out their handprint using a colored paper. Write their name in it and the job that they are willing to do for the good of the community.
• Then ask them what needs to be done to improve the neighborhood community and what role they can play in it.
This effective practical learning exercise of social studies for kindergarten will teach the kids about their neighborhood community and their role in it.

When we add -er to a word it makes a word that means a person who does something. For example:

What is a Syllable? | Open and Closed Syllables | Kids Academy
There are total of 6 types of syllables out there and if you are about to start teaching your little one about syllables then we’d recommend you to start with the open syllables and the closed syllables.
It’s just that these are easier to understand and your kid will learn quite fast. Not only this, in fact, after learning these two types, your kid will be able to speak a hundred different words.
For starters, you need to tell your children what is a syllable. It basically is a unit of pronunciation that comes with a single vowel only. For more details, you can refer to the internet and watch videos on Youtube that tell everything you need to know about a syllable.
Open Syllables:
In an open syllable, nothing comes after the vowel and the word ends right at the vowel. For example, the word “he” is an open syllable as nothing is coming after the vowel “e”. Also, in this case, the vowel is long.
Closed Syllables:
In this case, there comes a consonant after the vowel. In a nutshell, when we talk about a closed syllable, know that the vowel is closed with a consonant in the end. For example, there’s the word “cap” and “men”. You can see that in both these words the vowel is closed with the consonant “p” and “n”.
We hope you now understand the difference between both types. So, teach your kids about these two types and then move towards the other ones so that they can have a better understanding of what syllables are.
The wiser thing to do would be to watch Youtube videos and teach your children about vowels and syllables etc from there because that way, they will pick things up quicker.

Kid’s Academy’s “Learn To Count Numbers 1-5” is an engaging count number for kids video that encourages children to count in a playful and fun way. Children love a farmyard scene and are familiar with farm animals. The video opens with Chloe, the mama chicken, asking the viewer to help her find her lost chicks. The chicks are found one at a time behind a bush, in the grass, behind a stone, and in the flowers.
As each chick comes out of hiding the numbers 1-5 appear and the children learn to count numbers in sequence each time a hidden chick is found.
Parents and teachers of preschoolers and kindergarten students can use this video to help students master number identification.
Children will associate a given number that is repeated in the video and match that number they hear in video with the numeral. After watching the video, children and students can learn counting numbers one through five. But in addition to how to count numbers, the video demonstrates what numbers mean. Children also learn that as each chick is found the quantity of chicks is increasing. This will allow children and students to understand early addition concepts.
Number identification and rote counting are essential foundational early math skills. When young children learn how to count numbers sequentially, they learn that the last number that is counted is the s the quantity of a given set of objects. But counting is more than calculating a given quantity, the child also learns to match an object or objects with a number one at a time. This is a one-to-one correspondence.
As a child’s number of vocabulary grows, then the child also becomes more confident in communication and expression. Children are naturally curious. The English language is very interesting, if you look at the words closely you will see some repetitive combination of alphabets ending the words. These letters that end a word are called ‘suffixes. These suffixes change the meaning of words and can create new words. In this episode, we talk about 6 suffixes:
-er
-ness
-ful
-less
-ly
-able
-fulI
So, let's see what these suffixes can do.
-er
When we add -er to a word it makes a word that means a person who does something. For example:
• Painter
• Singer
• Player
- ness
When we add -ness to a word it means ‘the act of’. Which means that something is being done with some kind of quality. For example:
• Greatness
• Kindness
• Happiness
When we add the suffix -ful to a word it changes its meaning to ‘full of’. For example:
• Colorful
• Grateful
-less
When we add -less to a word it means ‘without’, which means that something is without the word that’s in the start of this word. For example:
• Homeless
• Helpless
-ly
The suffix -ly can be used to answer two questions, how often and how. For example:
1. How did she act? Answer: Badly
2. How often does she dance? Answer: Weekly
-able
-able simply means ‘can’. That something can be done. For example:
• Respectable
• Comfortable
So now you know the suffixes. Find words in a storybook ending with these suffixes, just as a practice exercise. These are very important to learn about good English grammar for children.

Let's Make Words | Rearrange Sounds to Make Words | Make Words from Letters | Reading for Kids
Let’s make words! After the kids have learned the alphabets their next lesson is using these alphabets and their sounds together to make words. For this, the kid must have a strong understanding of the alphabets and their sounds so that they can understand how they work together with each other.
Let’s make this less easy for the kids.
We need to learn how to put sounds in order to make meaningful words from them. Every word that you hear can be written down and to write these words we need the letters from the alphabets. Letters can arrange themselves in different orders to make meaningful words just like dog, cat, apple, etc.
It is the ordering of alphabets that matters and how their sounds work together.
Hence to master the art of word making you will need to do a lot of practice with the kid. The more words the kid makes the more he/she will be able to understand. And as they say, practice makes a man perfect.
For example:
CAT is a word because the ordering of the alphabets makes sense.
If you put the same alphabets in a different order, for example, ATC, then they don’t make any sense or a meaningful word. Hence the ordering of alphabets is very important.
You can use different word books and then practice them with your kid. Try to use new words but don’t overwhelm the child. Let the child learn at their own speed. Use books with animations so that the kid also knows the exact meaning of the word that he/she is learning.
The more the animations and relation of words with the animations the better will be their understanding and soon they will be able to make up words very easily.

Sometimes in life, it is acceptable to add or subtract numbers that have been rounded up or down to make calculations easier. In these videos, the Kids Academy teacher explains rounding numbers to the nearest ten and rounding numbers to the nearest hundred.
A real-life example of when rounding numbers is used could be:
A student needs new clothes. Her parents take her shopping and tell her that she can spend $75 on any items she likes. She immediately sees a shirt that costs $19.98. She finds a pair of pants for $27.99 and some shoes for $14.95. Does she have enough money to buy all three items?
Rounding makes the calculations easier. When the numbers are rounded to the nearest 10, they become $20.00, $28.00 and $15.00. Now the numbers are much easier to add and she determines she has enough to buy them all.
The video explains the rounding numbers rules are simple. When you are rounding numbers to the nearest ten, you look to the number to the right in the ones place. If that number is five or higher, you will round up. If the number is four or lower, then you round down. Likewise, if you are rounding numbers to the nearest 100, then look to the number on the right in the tens place. If that number is five or higher, you will round up. If the number is four or lower, then you round down.
The video teacher recommends underlining the number that you are rounding and drawing an arrow to the number to the right that determines whether you round up or down. The video provides several examples of rounding numbers as well as scenarios that require rounding numbers in real-life.
Rounding numbers 3rd grade, is a skill that prepares students to use math in their everyday lives. Teachers find these videos are a great tool that can be used for teaching re-teaching or for enrichment.
