Have you ever seen a duck-billed platypus? This video for kids talks all about one of the most curious mammals in the world. With a duck bill, beaver tail, and otter foot, the platypus is quite strange. Despite being a mammal, it actually lays eggs instead of experiencing live births. They lay their eggs in underground burrows near water that hatch around two weeks later. The young stay with their mother for only about four weeks before swimming off to forage on its own.
While its features are odd, they all have their use. The duck bill is flexible and soft and has thousands of receptors to help them find food in the dark. Their webbed feet push through water quickly. And their tails act like rudders on a ship. They steer the platypuses where they want to go. Additionally, a platypus can remain under water for nearly two minutes before coming up for air!
Believe it or not, a platypus doesn't have any teeth. When it shovels mud and silt into its bill, it also captures gravel. It uses the gravel to chew and grind food. These shy creatures are also very small. Adults weight only around three pounds. That makes them pretty easy prey. However, male platypuses have venomous stingers on their rear feet that can deliver a poisonous sting to attackers.
We hope you and your student(s) enjoyed learning about this interesting creature! If you want to learn even more, head over to our website and download one of our many lesson plans about animals, full of activities, worksheets, and more!

Have you ever wondered how your body breathes and converts carbon dioxide to oxygen? In The Respiratory System for Kids video, you will learn how exactly we do this. You will also learn about the other components and functions of this important body system. All living things need oxygen to survive. As humans, we use our lungs and other parts of the body to breathe properly and receive oxygen.
Our lungs take up most of the space in our chest, and our ribs are there to protect them and the heart. Speaking of the heart, the left lung is smaller than the right so that there's more room for the heart! On the outside, lungs are pink, spongelike, and kind of squishy. Another fun fact: Yawning is a sign that the body needs more oxygen. When we get sleepy, the brain sends a particular signal in tell our lungs to breathe in more air.
Have you ever noticed that you can breathe through both your mouth and your nose? If we breathe through the nose, the air gets filtered by tiny hairs called cilia. These hairs line the passageways of the nose to filter out dust and other substances. The air travels down the trachea, or windpipe, which is also lined with cilia.
The pharynx, which is actually part of both the respiratory and digestive systems, carries food and air divided into two pathways. The esophagus is for food and leads to the stomach. Air travels through the larynx (voice box) that leads to the trachea. At the back of the throat area is a flap of tissue called an epiglottis. The epiglottis covers the air-only passage when we swallow to keep food or drink out of the windpipe. Keep watching to learn more.
We hope you and your student(s) enjoyed learning about this important body system! If you want to learn even more, head over to our website and download one of our many free lesson plans about the human body and how it works, full of activities, worksheets, and more!

Constellations for Kids | Learn about the types of constellations, their names, and how to find them
In this video we learn all about constellations for kids. At night we can see thousands of stars and scientists long ago figured out that the stars line up in recognizable patterns. The patterns form shapes of people, animals, and mythological beings. Early astronomers called these special patterns constellations. Each star in the pattern has a name and is connected to form a different constellation. It is almost like a โconnect-the-dotsโ picture, but instead of using numbers and dots, the twinkling stars are connected to form the special patterns. You have have heard of the Big Dipper, Orions Belt, or Aries, but these are only a few of the constellations there are many more!
Many constellations have their roots in myths. A myth is an ancient story about many different things. Constellation myths are usually stories about gods, heroes and creatures such
as serpents, dragons, flying horses and more. The images related to these myths are formed using connected stars. The Greeks and Romans created the stories for constellations.
In addition to the constellation myths, there are ancient and modern uses of constellations:
1. They helped ancient farmers know when to plant and harvest crops. Constellations can be used as a calendar in the sky.
2. Travelers use them to navigate from one place to another, relying on different stars to guide them on journeys throughout the world.
3. Modern astronomers and star gazers use them to help keep track of specific stars in the sky.
4. Astronomers use them to locate other objects in the sky such as galaxies or nebulae, which are areas where gas and dust are cluttered
We hope you and your kids enjoyed our constellation video and are able to identify some of the major constellations when you look up at the stars at night. Have you ever heard of the name Sitting Bull? In this video, you and your kids will learn all about this incredible Lakota chief. Sitting Bull lived during the time of Manifest Destiny and the Indian Removal Act. Manifest Destiny was the idea that it was America's God-given right to expand westward and own all the land. The Indian Removal Act allowed the US government to force Native Americans to reservations.
Sitting Bull was born in 1831 with the name of Jumping Badger. It wasn't until he was 14 that he earned the name Sitting Bull after defeating an enemy. This brave act foreshadowed a life of courage as he continually defended his people throughout his life. Most famously, he and his people defeated the US soldiers under George Custer's command in the Valley of the Little Bighorn.
Sadly, Sitting Bull and his people were forced onto reservations despite the Treaty of Fort Laramie that promised the Black Hills of South Dakota to the Lakota nation. He was given permission to travel and met Annie Oakley and Buffalo Bill Cody. Cody managed a wild west traveling show to which Sitting Bull became a part. However, Sitting Bull experienced a lot of persecution and eventually left the show. He lived out the remainder of his days on the reservation until he was killed in 1890.

In this video about Albert Einstein for Kids we learn about one of the most famous scientists in history. Albert Einstein contributed to many scientific areas but one of his most important contribution to the world of physics and science is the Theory of Relativity. The theory changed how scientists observed the world and led to many modern inventions, including the nuclear bomb and nuclear energy. The theory explains how energy is related to mass.
One equation from the theory that you may have heard of is "E = mc2". The c represents the speed of light and never changes and is the fastest speed possible in the universe. E = energy, M = mass. His theory explains how time and distance may change when the different speed of an object or the observer is considered.
Believe it or not...Albert Einstein, like many people, struggled with education early in his life, he failed many tests and wasn't very organized, but he did not give up. He worked hard, became interested in math and science, and went on to become one of the most brilliant people in history. We all have learned and can continue to learn from the example of Albert Einstein.
In addition to this video we have created a free 11 page lesson plan with more learning content about Albert Einstein including worksheets and fun activities. Download our free comprehensive lesson plan here: https://learnbright.org/lesson....s/science/albert-ein
