What is a Community? Social Studies for Kindergarten | Kids Academy

A common question in social studies for kindergarten homeschool is what is a community? It is a part of the social studies curriculum. A community is a place where people live together with each other. People in a community interact with each other and responsible for the well-being of their community.

There are two major types of communities:

1. Urban
2. Rural
3. Suburban

Urban

Also called as the city is the more highly populated and busier community. In this type of community, you will see taller buildings, more traffic and a lot of hustle bustle around. People live in apartments rather than houses and there is always heavy traffic.

Rural

The rural community is the more peaceful kind of community. It mostly consists of farms and fields and animals and very few people. It is the agricultural areas of a country. People live in small houses that are located at a longer distance from each other sometimes even miles. There is hardly any traffic and has a very peaceful environment.

Suburban

A suburban community is located at nearby the urban community but outside the city. It is less busy than the city and less populated also. People live in homes with gardens that give a very fresh and a very peaceful look to the area. There is lesser traffic. Most people travel from nearby suburban to urban areas for work.
Things you will find in a community

Now there are certain things that signify the presence of a community. The kid must be able to identify these things as these are the things that they see around them in real life.

These very common things include:

1. Library
2. Policeman
3. Parks
4. Houses
5. School bus

Many other things that we see around ourselves since we all live in a community are a part of the community.

Welcome to Kids Academy! In this educational video for kids, we will read aloud the Peter Rabbit story for kids. Peter Rabbit is a fictional animal character in various children's stories by Beatrix Potter. He first appeared in The Tale of Peter Rabbit in 1902 and subsequently in five more books between 1904 and 1912. Spinoff merchandise includes dishes, wallpaper, and dolls. He appears as a character in several adaptations.

Peter Rabbit was named after a pet rabbit whom Beatrix Potter had as a child, and whom she called Peter Piper. The first Peter Rabbit story, The Tale of Peter Rabbit, was originally created in 1893 as a letter to Noel Moore, the five-year-old son of Potter's former governess, Annie Moore. The boy was ill and Potter wrote him a picture and a story letter to help him pass the time and to cheer him up. The letter included sketches illustrating the narrative.

Reading bedtime stories to kids is a very old and important ritual. It is not just to put the kids to sleep and curb their curiosities. These bedtime stories are actually the start of the learning process for your kids. Bedtime stories give both moral and educational lessons to the kids and they also teach them to read or get familiar with phonics if you read the stories with sounds and make them fun.

Due to the crucial importance of bedtime stories for kids, it is important to choose wisely what kind of story you want to tell your child. It should be easy, with a plot that their brains can comprehend. The words should be easy that the kids can learn.

The book should have visual illustrations and most importantly, the bedtime story for kids should have a sound moral lesson to help in their development and upbringing.

One such bedtime story for kids is The Tale of Peter Rabbit. It has been adapted from the works of Beatrix Potter and comes as a short story book with illustrations. This animated tale is about the naughty garden adventures of a rabbit named Peter.
The Tale of Peter Rabbit is about four rabbits namely,

Flopsy
Mopsy
Cotton Tail
Peter

Unlike his other siblings, who are well-behaved and contented, Peter is naughty and mischievous. This behavior puts him in trouble when he goes to investigate Mr. McGregor’s garden despite his mother’s warnings against it. Mr. McGregor chases him with a rack and Peter runs back home frightened and barely alive. His mother puts him to bed with a chamomile tree while his siblings enjoy eating blackberries with milk.

The Tale of Peter Rabbit teaches young kids to listen to their parents and learn to respect their wishes. It also has been made into a bedtime story movie.

What is a Syllable? | Open and Closed Syllables | Kids Academy

There are total of 6 types of syllables out there and if you are about to start teaching your little one about syllables then we’d recommend you to start with the open syllables and the closed syllables.

It’s just that these are easier to understand and your kid will learn quite fast. Not only this, in fact, after learning these two types, your kid will be able to speak a hundred different words.

For starters, you need to tell your children what is a syllable. It basically is a unit of pronunciation that comes with a single vowel only. For more details, you can refer to the internet and watch videos on Youtube that tell everything you need to know about a syllable.

Open Syllables:
In an open syllable, nothing comes after the vowel and the word ends right at the vowel. For example, the word “he” is an open syllable as nothing is coming after the vowel “e”. Also, in this case, the vowel is long.

Closed Syllables:
In this case, there comes a consonant after the vowel. In a nutshell, when we talk about a closed syllable, know that the vowel is closed with a consonant in the end. For example, there’s the word “cap” and “men”. You can see that in both these words the vowel is closed with the consonant “p” and “n”.

We hope you now understand the difference between both types. So, teach your kids about these two types and then move towards the other ones so that they can have a better understanding of what syllables are.

The wiser thing to do would be to watch Youtube videos and teach your children about vowels and syllables etc from there because that way, they will pick things up quicker.

Ants go marching is a very popular and very fun song for kids to learn numbers. It has a great rhythm to it and the lyrics to his kids’ song are also very interesting. This song is very effective for making the counting easy for the kids. It is great for young toddlers who are just beginning their math lessons and since numbers are the basic of math it is better to make this lesson a little more interesting for the kids.

It is a well-known fact that it is easier to remember things which are in rhythm which is why songs remain in our memories even after years. Kids learn fast when things are in rhythm. Also, the animations of these kids are also very interesting and colorful. So, when the kids listen to this song with its video, he/she will be singing the song very soon and without even knowing they would have learned the counting till 10.

The ants go marching eight by eight, hurrah, hurrah
The ants go marching eight by eight,
The little one stops to shut the gate
And they all go marching down to the ground
To get out of the rain, BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!

The ants go marching nine by nine, hurrah, hurrah
The ants go marching nine by nine, hurrah, hurrah
The ants go marching nine by nine,
The little one stops to check the time
And they all go marching down to the ground
To get out of the rain, BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!

The ants go marching ten by ten, hurrah, hurrah
The ants go marching ten by ten, hurrah, hurrah
The ants go marching ten by ten,
The little one stops to say "THE END"
And they all go marching down to the ground
To get out of the rain, BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!

Welcome our new video: Sorting Games | Logic Games for Kids | Sorting Objects into 2 Groups

Sorting can be made very easy for kids through some simple logic and sorting games. A human brain is always working and like that of a kid since it is like a blank canvas it is the other humans that are painting it, which means that the kids are making sense out of everything. It is the responsibility of parents and teachers to make sure that whatever they are naming these things and whatever sense they are making they are doing it right.

You can play different sorting games with the kid to clear the concept. Let me explain.

1. Sorting objects into two groups of the same color
You can make two groups of colors, for example, red and blue. Now collect some objects of these two colors and then ask the kid to put the same colored objects in one group. Help the kid along. Colors are the easiest to sort and kids can easily do it.

2. Sorting objects into two groups of the same size
Either an object is big, or it is small. When you make these two groups of small and big the kid will be better able to understand where to put each object and which goes into the category of small and which object is referred to as big. Appreciate the participation of kid and correct him/her as they make any mistake but very gently.

3. Sorting objects into two groups of the same shape
Let’s just stick to square and circle for this time. these two are the easiest to sort shapes and it would be better if the kid starts with some basic and easy shapes. Grab all the toys of your child and it’s time for some sorting based on the shape of the toy.

These are some easy sorting games that you can play with your kid. Such games maintain the interest of kid and enhance the learning process as well.

Welcome to our new videos of matching objects with animals funny and interactive.

Meet a new preschool learning video for kids aged 5 and under. We’ve created a compilation of useful video materials for preschool learning. A charming puppy called Toby asks toddlers to help him in various everyday situations involving little kids in the world of learning.

The first episode of the newly released learning video for toddlers concentrates on the basic skills: the ability to correlate numbers from 1 to 5 to the quantity of the objects that they refer to. Kids count apples and Toby writes the numbers on the boxes. This activity build confidence at the very early stages of education.

Boys as well as girls love constructing different kinds of houses with a toy crane. This is where basic shapes come in: a square, a rectangle, a triangle, a circle, and a rhombus. Can your little ones construct a house with the help of 5 basic shapes?

Toby needs help again. He needs to put 2 cars into 5 garages. Let’s learn how to count from 1 to 10 by twos! This exciting video will teach your little learners to count by 2s in no time.

Learning how to count by tens can also be based on everyday life activities: Toby the dog can’t fall asleep and decides to count sheep. Is there anyone who hasn’t tried this method? The trick is that sheep come in groups of ten, so Toby counts the sheep by tens.

Professionals at Kids Academy have been producing educational materials for toddlers and preschoolers which help to assist an all-round natural kids’ development. To explore a wide range of printables, videos and apps go to www.kidsacademy.mobi

Welcome to the Kids Academy channel! Teach US Geography for kids with instructional videos from Kids Academy. These standards-based clips include practice identifying the 5 five regions of the United States and locating cities and states. Included are Informational videos that show children things to do and see when visiting Washington DC and National Parks too!

The US region's geography lesson shows students a colorful US map with each area clearly defined. Students then look at a state and choose its correct region. Extend the learning by choosing more states and finding the regions in which they are located.

Another engaging activity is finding cities and states within the US. In this activity clip, students learn that within each state, there are cities. To complete the task, children read a city name and then find the city's state. A picture clue that represents that state is provided. For example, a cowboy hat is the picture clue to find the state that has the city of Dallas. The picture clue for the city and state of New York is the Statue of Liberty. Children view images and videos from each state. After, a review activity checks students' knowledge of the topic.

Continue the learning fun with a trip to Washington DC. In this animated clip, two children travel to the US capital. They visit and share facts about famous landmarks and memorials. Students learn that the President resides and works in the White House and that the nation's leaders meet and work in the Capitol building. The video highlights fun places to see in Washington DC, such as the National Zoo and the numerous museums too.

This US Regions and Geography collection concludes with a video on National Parks. Facts and information about Yellowstone, The Grand Canyon, and Biscayne National Parks are featured.
Use these clips in the classroom, the home school, or for fun and enrichment.

Learn to Play Chess | Double Check | Kids Academy

Double check is a check by two pieces all at the same time. When it comes to playing chess, the double check is always considered equally as a single check.

The only difference lies in the symbolic representation of both the terms. A single check is represented by “+” and a double check is represented by “++”. However, the sign “++” is sometimes used to indicate checkmate too.

In double check, one piece moves to deliver a check and reveal an already discovered check that it was blocking before. Discovery is the best way to destroy your opponent.

You can learn more about the double check move on the internet. All you have to do is to type “learn chess for kids” online and you will have several results pop up on your screen.

Sources of Light | Science for Kids | Kids Academy

Chess is a very diverse game, it’s not just made up of some simple left, right moves, and there are some special moves also. To make it easier for kids to learn how to play chess let me explain one of these special chess moves called the pawn promotion in simple words.

First off what does promotion simply mean? It’s a reward for you doing a good job. For example in school when you do in good your exams and you get good grades you get promoted to the next grade. Similarly in chess when you play a good move you get a reward.

Let’s do this chess lesson by an example from the video.

As the name suggests pawn promotion is a reward for the pawn only. The pawn will get this reward if it is able to march throughout the board, through the enemy’s territory and get to the other side of the board.

The reward for a pawn in this situation here is that when it reaches to the other side of the board successfully he now has a choice to turn itself to a stronger piece, either a knight, a bishop, a rook or a queen. The pawn cannot remain a pawn and it cannot turn to the king because there can only be one leader.

Now very rarely you will change into a rook or a bishop, mostly the pawn turns to a queen because the queen is the strongest of all pieces. However, if you change to a bishop, a knight or a rook it is called as under promotion. One thing to be noted here is that even if you already have a queen on your board does that mean that you cannot change your pawn to another queen? No that is not true, you can actually change the pawn to a second queen, and it won’t matter. That is why an additional queen is given with the chess set.

On changing the new queen will be placed at the exact square of where the pawn was. So that’s all you need to know about pawn promotion. Practice it on board and soon you would become the champion of pawn promotions.

Welcome our new video: Trading One to Tens | 1st Grade | Math | Kids Academy

In this brief video, we teach you how you can learn trading one to tens. Now we know the concept of ones and tens. Let's just revise it. A double-digit number is made up of two parts, ones and tens.

The ones are the numbers that stand for themselves and have a clear meaning. For example, in number 12, 2 is at one’s place. So here 2 simply means number 2. However, the number 1 is not just 1, it is actually 10. To put it simply there are 10 cubes hidden inside this 1.

So, when you trade one to tens we know that inside every ten there are 10 cubes hidden inside. So, we will know that 10 cubes are equal to one long cube. Trading one to tens is a very basic and very important lesson for kids. So, make sure that this concept is clear in their mind.

Kids Academy, will help your child practice and apply basic math skills through fun puzzles and mini-games in our application.

Kids Academy will guide your little math explorer through intuitive lessons with the help of our professors. This App combines math and fun while mastering the basic Common Core Math Curriculum – math has never been so FUN until NOW.!

It's Kids Academy, and welcome back to our channel! In this educational video for children, we will read aloud a story "Jack and his friends". More interesting short stories for children you can find on our channel. Stay tuned!

Once upon a time, there was a boy whose name was Jack. One day Jack set out to seek his fortune. He hadn't gone very far when he met a dog.
"Where are you going?" asked the dog. "I'm going to seek my fortune," said Jack. "May I go with you?" "Yes, if you like."
So Jack and the dog went on. They hadn't gone very far when they met a cat.
"Where are you going, Jack?" asked the cat. "I'm going to seek my fortune," said Jack. "May I go too?" "Yes, certainly."
So Jack and the dog and the cat went on. They hadn't gone very much farther when they met a goat.
"Where are you going, Jack?" asked the goat. "I'm going to seek my fortune." "May I go too?" "Yes, if you like."
So Jack and the cat and the dog and the goat went on. They hadn't gone very much farther when they met a cow.
"Where are you going, Jack?" asked the cow. "I'm going to seek my fortune." "May I go with you?" "Certainly, you may."
So Jack and the cat and the dog and the goat and the cow went on. They hadn't gone much farther when they met a rooster.
"Where are you going, Jack?" asked the rooster. "I'm going to seek my fortune." "May I go with you?" "Certainly!” said Jack.
So they went on. They walked until it got dark, but they couldn't find a place to spend the night. At last, they came to a house.
Jack peeped through the window and saw some robbers. They were sitting around a table counting their money.
Then Jack told his friends to make the biggest noise they could. The dog barked, the cat meowed, the goat bleated, the cow mooed, the rooster crowed.
They made such a dreadful noise that it frightened the robbers, and they all ran away. Jack and his friends came in to have a good sleep.
The cat went to sleep on the armchair, and the dog lay under the table.
The goat went to the attic, and the cow was sent into the cellar. The rooster sat down on the roof, and Jack went to bed.
When the house went dark, the robbers sent one of their men to go back into the house and get the money they had left.
But soon he came running back, all scratched and very frightened, and told them an awful story.
“I came in and wanted to sit in the armchair. But an old woman there stuck her knitting needles into me."
That was the cat.
“I wanted to take the money from the table. But there was a shoemaker hiding under it, and he stabbed me with his awl.” And that was the dog.
“So I ran up the stairs to the attic, and an old woman with a sweeping brush knocked me right down again.”
That was the goat.

“Then I ran down to the cellar, but there was a man there chopping wood, and he hit me on the head with his axe.”
That was the cow.
“But the worst one was on the roof. There was a little man up there who shouted, "Throw him up to me! “ So I ran right away from there!”
That was the rooster.
The robbers were so frightened that they never went there again. And Jack and his friends stayed in the house as long as they liked.

Learn to Play Chess - Practicing Checkmates | Kids Academy

Checkmate is the end condition of chess. As you learn to play chess for beginners you should know that whichever player does checkmate first wins the game. Checkmate means that you have trapped the king of your opponent. A king can save itself from checkmate through CPR, Capture, Protect, Runaway.

It means that the king can capture the piece attacking it. It can also protect itself and counter-attack or it can run away and save itself. If the king can do none of these moves and there is no way left for it to save itself, it means that it is checkmate, the king has been captured and the game is over.

As the king is the main leader of this game, therefore, it is not captured and the game ends before the move in which it would be captured.

Sorting Games, Matching Games, Logic Games for Kids

Here at Kid’s Academy, we know that improving young students’ critical thinking skills helps them become stronger students when they enter primary school. These videos teach students observational skills, reasoning skills and logical thinking with sorting games and matching games. And very young children begin learning first with color games.
Games and instruction for toddlers and students in preschool and Kindergarten begin with learning about colors. Color games for kids include not only naming colors but also matching objects of the same color. Once students master color, they begin to work on sorting games and look at the size and then shape to describe, sort and classify objects. Language skills improve as well because students have the words to describe the world around them.

As students progress, students use higher-order thinking skills to determine if there is more than one way to sort objects and use reasoning skills to decide if objects go together and why they go together.
Students enjoy learning with the child-friendly instruction on these clips. Skills and concepts include:

• Matching colors.
• identifying toys that are the “same” and “different.”
• Objects that fit together. A fish and water go together, and cookies and milk fit together. Students use logic and reasoning to find other things that go together.
• Finding the object that is different in a group of objects. Students look for differences in size, shape, color or position.
• Matching objects that are exactly the same.
• Sorting objects by size.
• Sorting objects in a group two different ways—by size and color.

Kid’s Academy’s logic games for kids are fun! Children want to watch and play more and more! The videos are a valuable tool for the classroom as well as for parents wanting to help their children improve their thinking and reasoning skills.
