Punctuation is a very important part of written English, it clears the meaning of words and expresses what is being said in the right manner. Without punctuation, the sentences would remain confused and the meanings will be unclear. For 1st grade student is an important part if the curriculum and the kid must have a strong grip on it.

Starting with the very basics, let’s look at the ending punctuations. These punctuations are used at the end of the sentences. All sentences end with a punctuation mark, which is what marks the end of the sentence. Depending on the tone of the sentence the appropriate punctuation is used with it. Mostly three kinds of punctuation marks are used, either a period (.), a question mark (?) or an exclamation mark (!).

00:13 - An example of all punctuation options at the end of a sentence.
02:02 - Period
Most sentences end with a period. For example:
1. The dog is big.
2. He is Adam.
3. This is an apple.
4. I have a car.
02:32 - Question mark
Question sentences end with a question mark. The sentences which enquiring about something are referred to as question sentences. For example:
1. What is your name?
2. Where is your car?
3. When will you come?
4. How old are you?
These are all asking a question and hence are ending with a question mark. The question sentences ask six questions:
1. What?
2. When?
3. Who?
4. Where?
5. Why?
6. How?
03:23 - Exclamation point
Sentences which represent some kind of extreme feeling end with an exclamation point. For example:
1. I am going to a party!
2. That is my favorite color!
3. I love it!
4. Yay!

So these are the basic ending punctuation lessons that English grammar is made up of. They are an important part of the English grammar lessons and the kid must have a sound understanding of them.

So all you need to do is to draw a number line. On this number line, we have numbers from 0 to 10. Now, this number line can be used can be used to solve different problems. Addition can be made very easy with this number line. Its very simple.

For example, you have to find what adds to 7 to make 10. Now you simply need to do is to count starting from 7 and reaching 10 on the number line. The number of steps you take to reach 10 is actually the number that we need to add to 7 to make 10 which here is 3.

So, it’s just that simple. This was a brief lesson on solving the problem with the number line. As the kid practices more, he will learn more.

Equal Parts | Math Lessons for 2nd Grade | Kids Academy

If your child is in the 2nd grade and if it’s time for him to learn about equal parts then you are at the right place. You see, if we talk about adults, it’s a piece of cake to tell if two parts are equal or not but when it comes to children, you need to do every possible thing you can to make maths interesting for them.

You can’t just go to your kid and define him what equal parts are. In fact, you need to show him what equal parts are and how to differentiate between equal parts and unequal parts.

Now, there are no doubt a lot of ways you can make this lesson interesting for your little one. You can use visuals to teach him about equal parts, you can use a worksheet to practice and feed in his brain about equal parts or you can just show him a video on Youtube where someone is teaching about equal parts using different characters and shapes, etc.

You can start with some beach activities. Kids love beaches and playing with sand, so how about building a color lesson on the beach. Kids are introduced to the concept of place value in the second grade. Place Value is a core concept in math. But it’s difficult to teach a kid that the value of a digit (0-9) is dependent upon its position in a number. In place value, you have to teach the kid the position that a number holds and the value that number has.
You have to keep in mind that every kid will learn at his/her own pace so you have to be patient and understanding. The right time to teach place value is after the kids have learned to count and can perform simple additions and subtractions.

Hands-on methods and practical games are the most effective ways of teaching place value to a kid. One such method is by using poker chips.
Here are the steps for teaching place value using poker chips.

1. Introduce Group Counting
Teach students how to skip count in twos, threes, fours, fives, and tens. Especially emphasize the ‘sense of ten’. This concept is fundamental for the understanding of place value.

The basic ten number symbols (0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9) are known as digits. These digits are combined together to make all other numbers in mathematics. Draw examples to demonstrate that ‘3’ and ‘5’are digits on their own but when combined, they make the number thirty-five.

3. Use a Number Board
Draw or print out a number board that contains numbers in sequential order from 1- 100. Explain to the kids using visual examples how the numbers from 0-9 interact with the numbers from 10 - 100. Teach the kids that every number from 10 – 99 is made up of two numbers. One number is in the ‘ones’ place and the second number is in the ‘tens’ place.

4. Use an Interactive Example
Now take out the poker chips and distribute them among the kids. Tell them that white poker chips stand for the ‘ones’ place whereas the blue poker chips stand for the ‘tens’ place. Now show the kids how to create numbers using place value with the help of poker chips.
It is not necessary to use poker chips or pebbles specifically. But it is your responsibility to make learning fun for the kids so you can use any small colored objects to demonstrate the examples.

Learn colors for Kids | Red Color | Kids Academy

If your kid is at that stage when he is supposed to learn about colors and their names then know that you as a parent or a teacher need to use as many visuals as you can. In fact, it’s an undeniable fact that colors can only be taught through visuals. For starters, you can use a textbook or color pencils to make your little one understand what colors are and how many are there.

Now, of course, the wiser thing to do is to start with the basic colors and focus on them until your kid has it all memorized. You need to teach your child about colors like green, red, yellow, blue.
