As winter approaches, V-shaped flocks glide overhead as the world's birds begin their long treks to warmer climates. Humans used to have some pretty crazy theories about where birds went for winter, like the moon, or to the bottom of the ocean.
How did we learn the real story? And where DO birds go for winter? What are the longest bird migrations? How do birds store up energy for their long journey? How do birds navigate? Why do they fly in a V-shape?

Bees see the world in some very interesting ways
Click here to SUBSCRIBE, it's FREE! -- http://bit.ly/iotbs_sub
To begin this video, we launched a little confetti to celebrate the fact that I am now "Dr. Joe", since I successfully defended my Ph.D. in molecular biology! Woo! But you don't have to call me "Doctor."
Anyway, spring is in the air!! We're all thawing out from winter's chill, and for bees and flowers this season is about one thing: Feeding and fertilizing. Bees are amazing social insects, and their relationship with flowers is one of nature's coolest examples of "mutualism". It got me wondering: How do bees see the world? Enjoy this look at how bees see in ultraviolet and even sense electric fields!

The fastest animal in nature isn't what you think it is. It's way, way smaller than that. Nature's tiniest creatures warp the laws of physics, and they do it in ways that even human engineers would gawk at. Using the power of super slow-motion macro video, let's uncover the biological engineering that lets nature's fastest creatures do their zoomy thing.

You’ve seen it in the comment section before: “Climate change is natural. It’s happened before and it will keep happening”. In reality, comments like these are the newest kind of climate change denial. In this video we’re going to learn about all the reasons that Earth’s climate changes, natural and otherwise, and then how we know that modern climate change can’t be blamed on natural forces. Maybe we can finally put this biggest myth about climate change in the trash.

Why are trees and other plants green? Seems like a simple question. But the answer is full of surprises. Using a special camera that can pick up light just beyond the visible range, into the near-infrared, you’ll get to see trees like you’ve never seen them before. And these other-worldly images can teach us not only why trees are green on Earth, but what color photosynthetic life on other planets might be.

Before you come to this, you need to be confident making new equivalent fractions.
Quick review of how to add fractions when they have the same denominator
(0:21 - 0:36) Demo of adding 2 fractions with different denominators, using fractions model diagrams. 1/4 + 1/2
(0:46 - 1:33) Then, keeping that model in view, we dip into our Fractions Skill-kit to make a common denominator, and THEN we add.
(2:03 - 3:25) Problem 2: 5/6 + 2/3 = 1/2
(3:33 - 5:28) Problem 3: 1/3 + 1/6 + 5/8
If you CAN reduce, you MUST reduce, for your final answer. No improper fractions in your answer.
As always, if it helps you, please help me... with a Thumbs-Up.
Thanks very much!
This is our Tiny Tune all about fractions. In this video we look at how divide up a whole into equal parts to give us a denominator. Then the parts that we want to count are called the numerator. Together these give us a fraction. The song gives some simple demonstrations and has a few examples at the end for students to have a go at themselves.

Song lyrics
What is a fraction?
We use them for counting part of something,
and all of that something we call a whole.
Then we divide up the whole into equal parts
and we call that the denominator.
And then the parts that we want to count, the numerator.
We are fractions,
we are fractions.
The part of a whole that we want to count,
is a fraction.
If you take a whole pizza,
and cut it up into equal slices.
Then the number of slices goes under then line.
And then your friend comes along and eats up two slices,
and that leaves you with six.
And then the six goes on top,
and we're left with six eights of a pizza.
We are fractions,
we are fractions.
The part of a whole that we want to count,
is a fraction.
Take a big bar of chocolate,
that's divided up into twenty-four parts.
That makes the denominator 24.
And if we break off eight of those chunks of chocolate,
what fraction have we got?
That's right it's eight twenty-forths of a bar of chocolate.
We are fractions,
we are fractions.
The part of a whole that we want to count,
is a fraction.
We are fractions,
we are fractions.
The part of a whole that we want to count,
is a fraction.

It is a full video game called Mage Math that helps kids build confidence in math while having tons of fun.
Come learn about fractions for 3rd graders in this fun math video. Help the Number One recharge his space ship with Unit Fractions. This math follows the common core but is basic math that every child needs to know.
We help kids understand a fraction is one part of a whole and that a fraction can only be a fraction if divided into equal parts. We also review the numbers on top are Numerators and the numbers on bottom are the Denominators. The video is great review and introduction to Third Grade Elementary Mathematics involving fractions.
As students progress with division this basic understanding of fractions will help them in their learning.
If you are a teacher this teaches 3.NF.1
