Hank gives us a tour of the most important table ever, including the life story of the obsessive man who championed it, Dmitri Mendeleev. The periodic table of elements is a concise, information-dense catalog of all of the different sorts of atoms in the universe, and it has a wealth of information to tell us if we can learn to read it.

One of the most notorious medieval torture devices was the “thumbscrews,” also known as “thumbkins.” Thumbscrews consisted of three metal poles, one or more of which was threaded, sitting vertically on a vice-like device. Along these poles, a plate or slab of metal or wood was placed horizontally with the ability to be slid up and down the poles. The victim’s fingers would then be placed in between the plate and the bottom of the device.

The Map of Science explores what science really is. Check out this video's sponsor https://brilliant.org/dos
In this video I investigate what makes a science a science, and how the scientific method is used in different subjects. I lay out all of the areas of human endeavor and show how they relate to each other from philosophy, through the sciences, to the social sciences, the arts and back to philosophy which I have drawn as a big donut. The main theme is that the scientific method is harder and harder to apply to subjects as they deal with more and more complex systems.

When I said I did in depth maps of ‘all’ of these subjects, I meant just the main ones, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology and computer science.

Check out the NEW Math Game we made at https://www.MageMath.com/
It is a full video game called Mage Math that helps kids build confidence in math while having tons of fun.

In this video we talk about more and fewer. The video gives the students a visual way to see when there are more or fewer objects. This lesson goes great with objects to use right after the video. As students get their hands on objects and learn the difference between more and fewer it will relate to them easier.

Kindergarten students will love the video so please share it.

Finance and capital markets on Khan Academy: Interest is the basis of modern capital markets. Depending on whether you are lending or borrowing, it can be viewed as a return on an asset (lending) or the cost of capital (borrowing). This tutorial gives an introduction to this fundamental concept, including what it means to compound. It also gives a rule of thumb that might make it easy to do some rough interest calculations in your head.

About Khan Academy: Khan Academy offers practice exercises, instructional videos, and a personalized learning dashboard that empower learners to study at their own pace in and outside of the classroom. We tackle math, science, computer programming, history, art history, economics, and more. Our math missions guide learners from kindergarten to calculus using state-of-the-art, adaptive technology that identifies strengths and learning gaps. We've also partnered with institutions like NASA, The Museum of Modern Art, The California Academy of Sciences, and MIT to offer specialized content.

A quadratic equation is an equation in the form of ax^2 + bx + c = 0, where x is the variable and a, b, and c are constants. Quadratic equations can be solved using various methods such as factoring, completing the square, or using the quadratic formula: x = (-b ± √(b^2 - 4ac)) / 2a. The solutions to a quadratic equation are known as the roots and are represented by x1 and x2.
