It's Kids Academy and welcome back to our channel! When comparing numbers, learners will examine and then assess whether a given number is greater than, less than or equal to another number. When students are comparing numbers correctly, they are able to make logical estimations, solve division problems more easily and develop number sense.
When children are efficient with counting to 100 and familiar with place value, then they can begin to compare 2-digit numbers. Students usually doing math in 1st grade are ready to be comparing numbers. Using base 10 counting blocks, students can show a given quantity.
For example, the number of twenty-five can be shown with the blocks as 2 tens and 5 ones. Likewise, number 43 can be shown as 4 tens and 3 ones. The student can easily see that number 43 is greater than 25. Now the child can assign the “greater than” math symbol to the problem.
Base 10 counting blocks are a great tool to use when comparing numbers for 1st grade, but other visual tools are effective when teaching this math skill.
The Kid’s Academy comparing numbers video is a great visual for instruction or reinforcement of this math concept. In the video, the student sees fun race cars zooming down a track. Each of the cars has 2 digit numbers on the side. The speaker in the video then compares the different numbers on the cars.
Students are also shown how to assign the “greater than” and “less than” math symbols correctly as well as reminded to look at the number in the tens place when first making the comparison. Furthermore, students are shown several racing cars and have ample opportunity to practice comparing 2-digit numbers.
Comparing numbers for 1st grade is fun with the use of the counters and engaging videos. After instruction students are ready to compare and describe quantities and use this knowledge in everyday life.

What is Energy? | Types of Energy: Light, Heat, Water, Electrical and Wind
It’s time for some science for kids. Our lesson today is what is energy? You need to explain this to your kid in as simple words as possible. Let me help you out a bit.
Energy is the ability to do work or make something happen. Whatever the humans do it is possible only because they have the energy to do it. Now energy also has some types. They are named as:
1. Light energy
2. Wind energy
3. Heat energy
4. Electrical energy
5. Water energy
However, this might be too much information for the kid at this time. So, at this moment lets only focus on wind energy. The energy that can’t be seen but exists everywhere around us. Wind energy is very powerful. It makes the kites and the flags fly enables the ships to sail across the sea. To make it easy for the kid to use a pinwheel. Ask the kid to blow on the pinwheel so that it turns. So now this energy that just came from the kid’s mouth is wind energy that enabled the pinwheel to turn.
To further add to the concept, you can do another activity. Place different weighted objects in front of a fan. Turn on the fan and see which object flies away first. This will give the kid an idea about the power of wind energy and also how electrical energy is being converted to wind energy in the fan.
You can plan some other experiments as well to explain things to your kid and make concepts more clear in their minds.

It is a basic lesson for kindergarten homeschool or first-grade social studies to learn about neighbor social studies once they start learning about a community. Neighbor social studies are the second basic thing after a classroom community that social studies for kindergarten homeschool should be taught.
First, relate the lesson of community with the neighborhood. Tell the students that their neighborhood is the community in which they live and where they can make a difference as an individual. Here are a few steps to teach neighbor social studies to kindergarten.
Step 1: Make a list of shared items in a community
• On a large newsprint write down the names of places that are shared by all the people in a neighborhood such as; parks, libraries, banks etc.
• Ask the kids whom they would call from the community to help them in certain situations.
Such as; whom would you call if you got sick? Whom would you call if something caught fire? Etc.
Step 2: Introduce Individuals from different Departments
• Request community speakers from different departments to visit and inform the kids about their duties, the tools that they use and what kind of work they perform for the community.
• Snap a picture of each speaker. After they leave to show the picture to the kids and ask them what facts they remember about them. Write the fact under the picture and display them on the first-grade social studies activity community board of the class.
Step 3: Who needs to help in a community?
• Let them brainstorm and then remind the kids that everyone is a helper in a neighborhood community.
• Now involve the students in making a list of all the jobs that need to be done in their classroom community to make it a model community.
• Ask the students to cut out their handprint using a colored paper. Write their name in it and the job that they are willing to do for the good of the community.
• Then ask them what needs to be done to improve the neighborhood community and what role they can play in it.
This effective practical learning exercise of social studies for kindergarten will teach the kids about their neighborhood community and their role in it.

Sorting objects in preschool is a necessary and vital skill. Sorting teaches and reinforces so many concepts! Colors, shapes, sizes, describing words, vocabulary, logic, and reasoning are learned when preschool and kindergarten students sort. The simple act of sorting objects by color, size or shape prepares students for challenging problem solving as they get older.
The video depicts a scene that many students recognize. A friendly elephant is playing in some leaves in a park. The season is fall, so there are many leaves of different colors on the ground. The elephant then sorts the leaves in different ways. The leaves are sorted by shape. Oak leaves are put in one heap and Maple leaves in another. The leaves are different sizes as well so the leaves are sorted into piles of big and little leaves. And finally, the leaves are sorted by color. The animation in the video is fun and inviting for young students and the language is easy to understand.
In addition to the video and digital games, hands-on sorting objects activities for preschoolers are found everywhere in the home and school environment. Sorting toys by color, shape, and size is a fun activity. Students enjoy sorting themselves by hair color, shirt color or by who is wearing shorts or pants. Sorting pom poms, shells and even cereal are great ideas!
Once preschoolers master the basics, they are ready for more difficult activities with sorting objects in kindergarten. Ask kindergarten students to sort objects by two attributes such as by gender and clothing. For example, sort girls wearing pants and boys wearing pants. Use this video to introduce sorting to kindergarteners or as a reteaching or introduction activity to grade-level K math.

Welcome to Kids Academy! In this educational video for kids, we will read aloud the Peter Rabbit story for kids. Peter Rabbit is a fictional animal character in various children's stories by Beatrix Potter. Peter Rabbit was named after a pet rabbit whom Beatrix Potter had as a child, and whom she called Peter Piper. Suffixes ful, less, ly, able | English Grammar for Children | Grade 2 | Kids Academy
The English language is very interesting, if you look at the words closely you will see some repetitive combination of alphabets ending the words. These letters that end a word are called ‘suffixes. These suffixes change the meaning of words and can create new words. In this video we talk about 4 suffixes:
-ful
-less
-ly
-able
-ful
When we add suffix -ful to a word it changes its meaning to ‘full of’. For example:
• Colorful
• Grateful
-less
When we add -less to a word it means ‘without’, which means that something is without the word that’s in the start of this word. For example:
• Homeless
• Helpless
-ly
The suffix -ly can be used to answer two questions, how often and how. For example:
1. How did she act? Answer: Badly
2. How often does she dance? Answer: Weekly
-able
-able simply means ‘can’. That something can be done. For example:
• Respectable
• Comfortable
So now you know the suffixes. Find words in a storybook ending with these suffixes, just as a practice exercise. These are very important to learn about good English grammar for children.

Meet our new chess animated cartoon for kids: Secrets of the Chessboard: Episode 4 | Chess for Kids - Kids Academy
In this video, students learn more about the game of chess and study the chessboard closely.
The animated chess instructor explains to the children about the chess pieces. The pieces are actually symbols. The crowns represent the King and Queen, the horse represents the Knight, and the castle represents the Rook.
The chess board itself has sixty-four light and dark squares. Students learn that a chess board cannot have any more or any less squares. On the board there are routes that pieces move called Ranks, and Files. Ranks are the horizontal, or side to side, rows and the Files are rows that are up and down, or vertical.
The video then shows the students that across the bottom and top of the chess board the squares have a letter, and up the sides of the chess board, each row has a number. With these letters and numbers, each square is named.
The video closes with the students looking forward to learning more about the way the letters and numbers are used for recording and knowing the position of each piece. Tune in for the next lesson!

What is a Community? Social Studies for Kindergarten | Kids Academy
A common question in social studies for kindergarten homeschool is what is a community? It is a part of the social studies curriculum. A community is a place where people live together with each other. People in a community interact with each other and responsible for the well-being of their community.
There are two major types of communities:
1. Urban
2. Rural
3. Suburban
Urban
Also called as the city is the more highly populated and busier community. In this type of community, you will see taller buildings, more traffic and a lot of hustle bustle around. People live in apartments rather than houses and there is always heavy traffic.
Rural
The rural community is the more peaceful kind of community. It mostly consists of farms and fields and animals and very few people. It is the agricultural areas of a country. People live in small houses that are located at a longer distance from each other sometimes even miles. There is hardly any traffic and has a very peaceful environment.
Suburban
A suburban community is located at nearby the urban community but outside the city. It is less busy than the city and less populated also. People live in homes with gardens that give a very fresh and a very peaceful look to the area. There is lesser traffic. Most people travel from nearby suburban to urban areas for work.
Things you will find in a community
Now there are certain things that signify the presence of a community. The kid must be able to identify these things as these are the things that they see around them in real life.
These very common things include:
1. Library
2. Policeman
3. Parks
4. Houses
5. School bus
Many other things that we see around ourselves since we all live in a community are a part of the community.

Welcome to the Kids Academy channel! Today we will talk about the 4th of July for kids. Independence Day is celebrated on the anniversary of national independence. It is the day when a nation was declared as a free nation and got its own rights to make laws of their own state.
There are many countries in this world that were once a part of some other monarchy or a bigger power. But after fighting for independence they got their own national identity and emerged on the world map as a separate independent nation.
It is important for kids to learn what is Independence Day and the Independence Day history of their own country. Every country has its own story of how they got their independence and becomes a part of the nation’s history.
For example, America got its independence from Great Britain on the 4th of July 1776. Since then the day is celebrated as the anniversary of America’s independence.
Similarly, the partition of subcontinent gave birth to two independent countries, India and Pakistan who got their independence from the British.
There are many other examples of Independence Day, every kid must know about their own country’s independence history.

US Local Government Departments | Water, Fire, Police, Sanitation Recreation & Transportation
If your kid is at that stage of his life when he should start learning about the government, what it does and what do the sectors in the government do then it is an undeniable fact that you first need to teach them about the different departments of the local government of the US.
For starters, the local government is divided into sectors and each sector is assigned a particular duty. For example, when we talk about the state and city governments, they are divided into different departments like the department of water, the department of fire, police, sanitation, recreation, and transportation.
Long story short, these departments take care of the basis on which a state or country runs.
Water Department: The water department is responsible for providing safe and clean water to drink, make food and bathe. Not only this, in fact, this department is also responsible to provide resources of water for emergency purposes like when there’s a fire somewhere.
Fire Department: The fire department is of course there to save people from fires and the destruction caused by it. For example, if a building is on fire, this department will be on alert.
Police: For controlling crime in a state and punishing thieves and looters etc, the police department is there to make sure that people are following the law.
Sanitation: This department is responsible for providing a healthy atmosphere for people. Keeping the roads clean, getting rid of all the debris and making sure that there’s little to no pollution around falls in their department.
Recreation Department: They take care of entertainment places like parks, beaches, and playgrounds, etc.
Transportation Department: They are the ones who look after the transportation systems of a state.

Counting for Kids Up To 120 Starting At Any Number | Math | 1st Grade | Kids Academy
Counting is a major part of kids learning. It starts with smaller numbers like 1 to 10 and then moves to bigger numbers. The begging might be easy however things get a little trickier when you approach the higher numbers especially after 100.
The kid might get confused about the concept and may end up not understand it. However, if it is explained easily and in simple words, the kid can get a very strong grip on the concept.
So, let me explain how can learn to count for kids.
When we count past 100 to 120 we can use the same pattern that we used when we were counting from 0 to 20. You can start counting from any number in between as long as you remember the pattern from 0 to 20. For example, let's count from 7 to 20. It goes like:
7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19 ,20.
Similarly, when you need to count from 107 to 120 you can follow the same pattern. All you need to do is to add a hundred before each number. It would be like:
107, 108,109,110,111,112,113,114,115,116,117,118,119,120.
The numbers would be read as one hundred and seven, one hundred and eight, one hundred and nine and similarly to up to one hundred and twenty.
We followed the same pattern in both the countings. So, all you need to do is to add one hundred before each number and you can start counting from any number within 100 to 120. So that’s it and you have learned to count for kids up to 120.
So that’s it that is just a very way to explain to your kid the concept and help them learn bigger counting numbers very easily.
