Teaching phonics for kids is easier with these instructional and fun videos from Kids Academy. Join the phonics superhero, Chris the Word Whiz, and learn more advanced phonics skills.

Join Chris and learn about word parts for kids. The word whiz carefully explains to students that if a word is divided into syllables, the words are easier to decode and read. Each syllable in a word has a vowel sound and the video explains the difference between words with open and closed syllables. Chris demonstrates a cool way to find out the number of syllables in a word by placing your hand under your chin. Say the word. Count how many times your chin moves down.

In another video, students learn about words with silent letters. Chris explains that some words don’t follow the phonics rules. Examples of these words include: knight, honest, climb and wrap. The word whiz superhero reads many examples of words with silent letters and quickly throws the words into “word jail” for not following the rules! Chris asks students to read words on their own as well.

Comprehending new words is easier if students know about prefixes. In the video about prefixes for kids, students learn about the common prefixes: re, un, bi, and dis. Children learn what each prefix means and how adding a prefix to a word changes the meaning of the word.
In addition to prefixes, the videos teach suffixes for Grade 2 students. Chris the Word Whiz, explains that suffixes are words parts added to the end of a word. Kids learn the common suffixes ful, less, ly, able. Our superhero explains what each suffix means and what the meanings of words are that have these suffixes. The videos include instruction on how adding suffixes sometimes change a verb to a noun and that you can add a prefix and a suffix to a word.

Letters for kids isn’t just about learning the names of letters in the alphabet. Silent letters, prefixes, suffixes, and syllables are challenging phonics skills. Clear up confusion on these concepts with exciting videos and Chris the Word Whiz!

Kids benefit a lot from having experience of sorting, classifying and comparing objects. These activities make the basics of numeracy skills and mathematics. It is easy to make kindergarten sorting games by using everyday objects. Provide them with opportunities to sort the same group in two different ways by shapes, colors, sizes or textures.

What needs to be taught?
1. Kids should know what is meant by ‘categorize’ or ‘sort’.
2. Another important thing to know is how to sort the same group in two different ways.

Example: Take some buttons
First, ask the kids to sort them according to size
Next by colors
Then by the number of holes, etc.
A Game to Focus on One Sorting Characteristic

1. Take two pieces of different colored cards and some items that can be sorted in more than one way, e.g. buttons, keys or plastic toy figures.

2. Place both cards on a table with some space between them.

3. Pick a silver button (if you are using buttons) and put it on the first card saying ‘this button goes on this card’. Next, take a golden button and say: ‘this button can’t go on this card’, and place it on the other card.

4. Repeat the activity with a few buttons than ask the kids to guess the sorting rule.

5. When the kids tell you that you are sorting by color then try to choose a more difficult sorting rule such as the number of holes in the button, to sort the same group in two different ways.

6. Once the children get an idea of sorting the same group in different ways, repeat the game with different rules and different objects to reinforce the concept of sorting.
Keep in mind to teach by using a game or fun activity for preschoolers and kindergarten kids as they tend to be more effective than worksheets.

It's "What's Your Name?" greeting song for kids! Little ones are cute and like to have fun all the time but learning is important for them as well. It is obvious that you cannot make them read books. Nursery rhymes are a wonderful option through which they enjoy while learning. You can see them smile and grin while they enjoy listening to these amazingly sweet nursery rhymes. You can get nursery rhymes for everything including alphabets, vegetable names, fruit names, and numbers. These baby songs are thoroughly enjoyable for kids and they enjoy a lot while learning these basic concepts.
What can your kid learn through nursery rhymes?
Quality nursery rhymes and baby songs can make your infant learn a lot of things including the following.

• Alphabets

Learning alphabets is a tough ask for the young one mainly because they are 26 in number. Along with that, each alphabet differs in shape. You can start with one or two alphabets each day. For instance, “A for Apple” and “B for a ball” taught with a light musical theme would help you in getting the attention of your kid. Kids get more attracted to animated large sized texts instead of the regular font. On the internet, you can get a lot of rhymes that would help you teach alphabets to your child in a fun and loving manner. Take each alphabet at a time. The purpose is to make the kid enjoy learning. When he sees the same tune being played every day, he would start having fun.

• Numbers

Numbers can be taught to kids in a similar way like alphabets. You can find attractive nursery rhymes online that show the name of the number when it occurs along with the name in text form. For instance, the number “1: would be shown and the text “one” would be written along with it. Kids enjoy bright-colored animated forms and they find to have fun while learning them.

• Names of colors

The best way to teach a kid about colors is through baby songs. Kids cannot differentiate between colors until they view things that have specific colors. On the internet, you can find rhymes that show things that have different colors. I came across a baby song for learning colors which seemed quite helpful

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xz5rA5ssww8

For instance, if red is the color, the text “red” is written in the left. Along with that, a paint container enters flying from the left and fills an empty apple as apples are usually red in color. Along with that, the text” the apple is red” is written under it. Along with that, the text “the apple is red” is being sung in the background till song moves on to the next color in the line.

For kids, it is much easier to remember visual objects.

Baby songs to make kids sleep
Only parents know that making a kid sleep at night is nothing less than climbing a steep mountain. Kids only go to sleep when they get exhausted but they start getting irritated if they do not sleep properly at night. A much easier way is a good soft baby song. At night, you can play one of these songs till your child falls asleep.

• Baby songs actually make the kid sleepy when soft music is being played around them. The theme that these songs have usually comprised of objects that are soft in color. Kids start viewing these shapes and then get sleepy. Kids usually like listening to these songs and fall asleep when they are being played.
Why do baby songs and nursery rhymes work for kids?
Kids get attracted to animated themes and cartoon characters and this is one of the key reasons why parents should use them for kids. On the internet, you can find baby songs and rhymes for everything. Whether it is learning alphabets, vegetables, fruits, shapes, numbers, and other things, you can find rhymes for everything.

• Numerous rhymes are available online for school going and they focus on various areas which create an impression in the child’s mind that school is enjoyable. For instance, certain baby songs show a cute yellow colored school van filled with children stopping in front of a house. When you kid sees other children sitting in the van, he develops a positive liking for going to school. Similarly, when he sees colorful bags, he also develops a liking for them. In a nutshell, these rhymes make it easier for parents to send their children to school.

Let's Make Words | Rearrange Sounds to Make Words | Make Words from Letters | Reading for Kids

Let’s make words! After the kids have learned the alphabets their next lesson is using these alphabets and their sounds together to make words. For this, the kid must have a strong understanding of the alphabets and their sounds so that they can understand how they work together with each other.

Let’s make this less easy for the kids.
We need to learn how to put sounds in order to make meaningful words from them. Every word that you hear can be written down and to write these words we need the letters from the alphabets. Letters can arrange themselves in different orders to make meaningful words just like dog, cat, apple, etc.

It is the ordering of alphabets that matters and how their sounds work together.
Hence to master the art of word making you will need to do a lot of practice with the kid. The more words the kid makes the more he/she will be able to understand. And as they say, practice makes a man perfect.
For example:

CAT is a word because the ordering of the alphabets makes sense.
If you put the same alphabets in a different order, for example, ATC, then they don’t make any sense or a meaningful word. Hence the ordering of alphabets is very important.

You can use different word books and then practice them with your kid. Try to use new words but don’t overwhelm the child. Let the child learn at their own speed. Use books with animations so that the kid also knows the exact meaning of the word that he/she is learning.

The more the animations and relation of words with the animations the better will be their understanding and soon they will be able to make up words very easily.

Phonics Blends For Kids | BL, CL, Gl, SL, FL | Consonant Blends | Kids Academy

Right now, you are reading this content most probably because you are working on the reading and writing skills for kids and you want to teach your little one about the blends and what they actually are.

For those who don’t know, a blend is when two consonants are blended together but when spoken, both the consonants can be heard separately. Some of the most common blends are BL, CL, GI, SL, and FL.

Now, honestly, if you want to teach your child about the blends then the wiser thing to do is to refer to the internet. All you need to do is to head to Youtube and search for, “blends for kindergarten” and there you will see several different videos that will come in handy to you.

On the other hand, if you are a teacher and if you have to teach your students about blends and how they work then you need to start by making groups of the blends first because you can’t just teach the students all the blends all at the same time. You need to start with the 1st group of blends, l-blends first (bl, cl, fl, gl, pl and SL) and then you need to follow it to the r-blends.

A lot of people out there confuse diagrams and blends and most of the people don’t even bother teaching the students about blends which aren’t correct. So, if you have a class to teach or if you are opting for homeschooling for your little one then you need to start with the blends so that reading and writing get easier for that little person.

Install now Kids Academy Talented & Gifted: https://smart.link/5d9b5460c7805

Vowels mark the beginning of learning different words in pre-primary and primary classes. Kids should be taught these with utter vitality since they are one of the pillars of creating the foundation of English grammar.

In most cases, all the five vowels are spoken the same way, having the same sound; a, e, i, o, u. They all require the same tongue movement. But in this video, you will learn about long and short vowels and how to differentiate between the two.

Long vowels:
The words in which the vowels are stretched, and sound longer are called long vowels.

For example:

• a in make
• e in peach
• I in ice
• o in pole
• u in tube

Short vowels:

The words in which the vowels sound quick and short are called short vowels.

For example:
• a in axe
• e in egg
• I in igloo
• o in block
• u in umbrella

Lyrics:

Baa, baa, black sheep,
Have you any wool?
Yes sir, yes sir,
Three bags full.
One for the master,
One for the dame,
One for the little boy
Who lives down the lane.

Baa, baa, white sheep,
Have you any wool?
Yes sir, yes sir,
Three bags full.
One for the master,
One for the dame,
And one for the little boy
Who lives down the lane.

Baa, baa, brown sheep,
Have you any wool?
Yes sir, yes sir,
Three bags full.
One for the master,
One for the dame,
And one for the little boy
Who lives down the lane.

Finding Tens At The ZOO | Math For 1st Grade
It can be hard for a child to grasp the concept of counting mainly because he is new to it and he doesn’t know much. In simpler words, if your child is having trouble at finding 10s then don’t worry and know that this is something that almost every child finds hard to understand. At the end of the day, you can’t just overlook this issue, right? You have to make sure to come up with a solution that can help your little one on how to learn math.

Maths is a complicated subject and most students find it boring which is why your first focus should be to make it interesting. Yes, you read that right! You need to find solutions that can help your child focus on this subject and that’s exactly why we are here at the moment. The one solution that will work in any case is Youtube videos and online lectures on math. These people are professionals and they know how to use audios and visuals to grab the attention of the children. All you need to do is to invest your time and that’s all.

Staying consistent with your efforts is necessary because at first, it will be a little difficult for your kid to understand what’s happening but with a little patience and repeated efforts, he will finally be able to understand and respond to you the way you want to.

If not Youtube videos, you can simply opt for games and books etc that can help your child. Games are a better idea and especially when it comes to learning math for kids, this technique genuinely works! Just give it a try and we assure you that you will see the results on your own.

Welcome our new video: Sorting Games | Logic Games for Kids | Sorting Objects into 2 Groups

Sorting can be made very easy for kids through some simple logic and sorting games. A human brain is always working and like that of a kid since it is like a blank canvas it is the other humans that are painting it, which means that the kids are making sense out of everything. It is the responsibility of parents and teachers to make sure that whatever they are naming these things and whatever sense they are making they are doing it right.

You can play different sorting games with the kid to clear the concept. Let me explain.

1. Sorting objects into two groups of the same color
You can make two groups of colors, for example, red and blue. Now collect some objects of these two colors and then ask the kid to put the same colored objects in one group. Help the kid along. Colors are the easiest to sort and kids can easily do it.

2. Sorting objects into two groups of the same size
Either an object is big, or it is small. When you make these two groups of small and big the kid will be better able to understand where to put each object and which goes into the category of small and which object is referred to as big. Appreciate the participation of kid and correct him/her as they make any mistake but very gently.

3. Sorting objects into two groups of the same shape
Let’s just stick to square and circle for this time. these two are the easiest to sort shapes and it would be better if the kid starts with some basic and easy shapes. Grab all the toys of your child and it’s time for some sorting based on the shape of the toy.

These are some easy sorting games that you can play with your kid. Such games maintain the interest of kid and enhance the learning process as well.

Welcome to our new videos of matching objects with animals funny and interactive.

It's Kids Academy, and welcome back to our channel!

What’s the weather?

In today’s technology-laden world we can start the day by simply asking our digital assistants “What’s the weather going to be today?” But weather goes far deeper and can be far more interesting than just whether or not you are going to put on a jacket today. We are going to explore the fascinating world of weather and show fun ways you can interact with the weather every day!

Let’s start with what the weather is. Weather describes the conditions outside at any given time. This usually includes the temperature, if there are any clouds present and, the reason most of us check it, will there be any rain?
Let’s start with temperature. The temperature can tell you how hot or cold a day is going to be. In the United States we use the Fahrenheit scale. This scale is hundreds of years old and was based on human beings internal temperature being roughly 90 degrees fahrenheit. A thermometer is the device used to measure temperature. As technology improved and thermometers advanced we learned that a human body’s internal temperature is actually closer to 98 degrees fahrenheit than the 90 degrees that the scale was built off. The rest of the world, excepting Liberia and the Cayman Islands, uses the celsius scale. This scale is based on the freezing and boiling temperatures of water.
One of the questions students always ask me is “If I am 98 degrees then why does a 98 degree day feel so hot?” The answer to this question is all about the skin. When we take our temperature we usually put the thermometer in our mouth to get our internal body temperature. If you were to take the temperature of your skin it would be closer to 70 degrees. That is why we feel comfortable around that temperature and get hot or cold if the temperature goes above or below 70.
Our next big concern with weather is what is going on in the sky. Clouds can quickly turn a hot morning by the pool into a chilly afternoon. Clouds are made of evaporated water. As the sun heats oceans, lakes and even pools some of the water heats up enough to evaporate. This evaporation is what causes rain puddles to disappear when the sun comes out. The water warms and rises into the air until it reaches the colder parts of our sky. When the water cools down it condenses or sticks together, just like on a cold mirror in the bathroom after you take a hot shower. As the water sticks together it can form all kinds of different clouds. If enough of this water sticks together it can become too heavy and fall back down to earth.
Any water coming out of the sky is called precipitation. Precipitation can come in many forms. One of the most common forms is rain. As the tiny drops of water in clouds collect they will form raindrops, these drops fall through the cloud picking up more and more water on their way down. Sometimes raindrops can be small and misty, other times the drops can be huge and hit with a splash. If the temperature is cold enough these raindrops can freeze on their way down causing freezing rain, sleet and hail. If the cloud is cold enough the water freezes into ice crystals which fall as snow.
How can we interact with the weather? Grab a thermometer and head outside. Start by trying to guess what the temperature is before checking the thermometer. Set the thermometer down in a sunny spot and a shady spot. How do the temperatures differ when they're in the sun?
Make your own predictions. Head outside in the morning, look at the sky and guess or measure the temperature. What do you think the weather is going to be? Will there be rain, or is it going to be sunny all day? Write your predictions down and check to see if you were correct later on. Pretty soon you will be predicting the weather like a true meteorologist. (Scientist who studies the weather, not meteors.)
You can also build a rain gauge. A graduated cylinder works perfect but a cylindrical cup will work just fine. Put out your rain gauge before the rain and then measure how much rain fell by putting a ruler in the cup after. The number of inches of water in your cup is the number of inches of rain that fell during the storm. Did you know every 1 inch of rain would be 1 foot of snow if the weather was cold enough?
Weather is also not a local occurrence. A rainstorm in your area most likely formed hundreds or thousands of miles away. Many of these storms, like hurricanes, follow predictable paths. Using sites like ventusky.com you can track these storms as they begin forming hundreds of miles out in the ocean. You can also get a more global look at weather patterns.
We make a lot of decisions based on the weather. Most students just look at the weather as something that happens without spending a lot of time really thinking about what causes rain or where snow storms come from. Take some time with your student to observe, predict and even measure your local weather.

This fun and educational video explain sorting and matching clearly and logically. This video is perfect for parents and teachers of toddlers, preschool children, and kindergarten since the explanation of the concept is easy to understand, and the animation is child-friendly. Learn the same and different for kids with our video!

The video shows the elephant character blowing up balloons and then comparing the balloons. The elephant first blows up two toy balloons that are yellow. Children learn the balloons are both yellow and the same size and shape. The elephant describes the balloons as the “same”. The elephant then blows up a red balloon. The children now learn that even though all toys are balloons and have the same shape, the red balloon is a different color. The elephant explains that the balloon is “different.” The elephant further explains the topic by blowing up toy balloons shaped like stars and demonstrates using the colors blue and pink. The concept of what is the same and different is demonstrated again.

Children also view balloon ducklings that are the same shape and color but are different sizes. The elephant clearly explains why these toys are different.

Comparison for kids is an important math skill. When children sort and compare they learn that objects are the same and different and can be organized into specific groups. When children begin doing more complex math operations this same concept applies.
If parents and teachers want to extend the learning in the video, then look for things in the child’s home or classroom environment for matching and sorting practice. Sort students in a classroom by hair or eye color. Sort students by the color or their shirts or shoes. At home match socks by color and size. Matching and sorting blocks is another great activity.
Enjoy this video and learn about attributes such as size and shape to describe objects that are the same or different.

All students that learn to read begin with the same basic fundamental skills. Students learn to identify upper and lowercase letters, learn letter sounds, and how the letter arrangement or letter order forms words. Students then progress to learning print awareness skills such as to begin reading at the top of a page, and read to the bottom. Knowing to read words from left to right is print awareness too.

Kids Academy has a series of videos that teach these basic skills. Beginning with the most basic of concepts, the first video teaches children that every word that is heard can be written down. Children learning how to read for kindergarten level, see easy three-letter words demonstrating this premise. The video shows how the letters D-O-G make the word DOG. The learner hears the name of each letter and then the word. Students viewing the video can read along! Further, students learn the names of each uppercase letter of the alphabet in a fun video that writes each letter, and then a fun animation with a character or object with that letter sound moves across the screen.

With other videos in this series, students progressing from Kindergarten to learning how to read for Grade 1, view letters that make a word. The letters given in the example are not in the correct order and must be unscrambled to make the correct word. Students practice and learn to read the one syllable words given in the examples. Students that are beginning to learn to read with phonics benefit from this instruction using one syllable CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) words.

In more videos, students learn that words in a sentence have a space between them. Students clearly see that without these spaces, the words are difficult to read. The videos instructs learners to begin reading from the top of a page and then from left to right.

Teachers in the school as well as the home classroom that need resources on learning to read for kids find these videos are a great addition to daily instruction. Students learn letter identification, read one syllable words, and print awareness concepts.

The English language is very interesting, if you look at the words closely you will see some repetitive combination of alphabets ending the words. These letters that end a word are called ‘suffixes. These suffixes change the meaning of words and can create new words. In this episode, we talk about 6 suffixes:
-er
-ness
-ful
-less
-ly
-able
-fulI

So, let's see what these suffixes can do.
-er
When we add -er to a word it makes a word that means a person who does something. For example:
• Painter
• Singer
• Player

- ness
When we add -ness to a word it means ‘the act of’. Which means that something is being done with some kind of quality. For example:
• Greatness
• Kindness
• Happiness

When we add the suffix -ful to a word it changes its meaning to ‘full of’. For example:
• Colorful
• Grateful

-less
When we add -less to a word it means ‘without’, which means that something is without the word that’s in the start of this word. For example:
• Homeless
• Helpless

-ly
The suffix -ly can be used to answer two questions, how often and how. For example:
1. How did she act? Answer: Badly
2. How often does she dance? Answer: Weekly

-able
-able simply means ‘can’. That something can be done. For example:
• Respectable
• Comfortable

So now you know the suffixes. Find words in a storybook ending with these suffixes, just as a practice exercise. These are very important to learn about good English grammar for children.

Learn To Count Numbers 1 to 5 | Kids Academy
Install now Kids Academy Talented & Gifted: https://smart.link/5d9b5460c7805

Kid’s Academy’s “Learn To Count Numbers 1-5” is an engaging count number for kids video that encourages children to count in a playful and fun way. Children love a farmyard scene and are familiar with farm animals. The video opens with Chloe, the mama chicken, asking the viewer to help her find her lost chicks. The chicks are found one at a time behind a bush, in the grass, behind a stone, and in the flowers.

As each chick comes out of hiding the numbers 1-5 appear and the children learn to count numbers in sequence each time a hidden chick is found.
Parents and teachers of preschoolers and kindergarten students can use this video to help students master number identification.

Children will associate a given number that is repeated in the video and match that number they hear in video with the numeral. After watching the video, children and students can learn counting numbers one through five. But in addition to how to count numbers, the video demonstrates what numbers mean. Children also learn that as each chick is found the quantity of chicks is increasing. This will allow children and students to understand early addition concepts.

Number identification and rote counting are essential foundational early math skills. When young children learn how to count numbers sequentially, they learn that the last number that is counted is the s the quantity of a given set of objects. But counting is more than calculating a given quantity, the child also learns to match an object or objects with a number one at a time. This is a one-to-one correspondence.

As a child’s number of vocabulary grows, then the child also becomes more confident in communication and expression. Children are naturally curious. Learning how to count numbers and associate a number with a quantity will better help the child understand the world around them as well as encourage more mathematical exploration.
