Hi! Iโm Laura, homeschooling mom to three. Iโm excited to share our homeschooling journey with you. We tend to follow a child led unit study approach to homeschooling. While I pull from many educational philosophies, if I had to pick one way to describe our homeschool, it would be Braveschooling (based on Julie Bogart's book "Brave Learner"). The thing about home education though, is that each family and life stage are so different. No two homeschools look the same. My hope is that by sharing my journey, I can offer support, encouragement, and inspiration to help you think outside the box to create a dynamic homeschool experience tailored to your family.
โTherefore encourage one another and build up one another, just as you also are doing.โ ~1Thessalonians 5:11

A note to parents and students: If your student needs extra help, try re-watching the lessons on 3 letter words. Those lessons introduce the vocabulary we use in this lesson.

#figuresofspeech,
The Alliance for Excellent Education held a webinar featuring Sheila Brown and Lee Kappes of the Aspen Institute, authors of a recently released primer, Implementing the Common Core State Standards: A Primer on Close Reading of Text. They examined the use of close reading as a key instructional approach for building studentsโ abilities to assess, evaluate, and synthesize information from text. Practitioner-leader Lynn Dougherty-Underwood from Hillsborough County Public Schools (Florida) discussed what integration of this instructional approach looks like in practice. Bob Wise, president of the Alliance and former governor of West Virginia, moderated the discussion.
Dr. Brook Meiller of the Oklahoma Academic Standards for English Language Arts writing team introduces Standard 1: Speaking & Listening.
